Playlists and Archives for Brian Turner

Tuesdays 3pm - 6pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Upcoming events:

Tuesday, November 4th, 3pm - 6pm: Killdozer
On a landmark day for the country, Brian welcomes the midwestern band that makes his heart swell with American pride like no other. Birthed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1982, Killdozer sludged through such classic LPs as "Snakeboy", "Burl", "For Ladies Only", and "Twelve Point Buck" before calling it quits in 1996. They returned briefly for Touch and Go's 25th label anniversary bash, and have graciously agreed to perform (and put you in your Election Day mindset) today on WFMU. They'll also be at the Knitting Factory in NYC on November 2nd.

Tuesday, November 18th, 3pm - 6pm: Double Bill Today: Los Llamarada and Hank IV
A one-two shot of great live action today on Brian's show today, first welcoming the brain-frying Los Llamarada, trekking up from Monterrey, Mexico and making their debut in NYC at last. Taking equal parts No Wave nihilism and cosmos-channelling confusion, attending FMU staffers at our March SXSW show in Austin are still talking about the live greatness that is this band. Fellow vets of our Texas hoe-down and previous FMU visits, San Francisco's Hank IV make it back into our studios this afternoon as well to shake it up in celebration of their new Siltbreeze label LP "Refuge In Genre." Both bands play together in NYC as well: November 12 at the Charleston in Brooklyn, November 13th at Maxwells in Hoboken, and November 14 at the Cake Shop.

Tuesday, November 25th, 3pm - 6pm: Jerusalem and the Starbaskets
Jeremy Freeze and Kim Sherman make up this excellent duo out of Columbia, Missouri whose sporadic vinyl releases have clanged over our airwaves over the last couple of years. They're a most appealing hybrid of Velvets/New Zealand psych-pop worship, while turning up the levels on a splattery DIY ethic drenched in the wilder experimental moments of bands like the Hospitals.
