Playlist for Brian Turner - July 6, 2004

Tuesdays 3pm - 6pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Calexico Live! A visit today with Tucson, Arizona's finest export of cinematic desert sounds.
Since 1996 Calexico has been spearheaded by Joey Burns and John Convertino, whom outside of this ensemble have recorded or toured with a massive who's who list in modern music including Giant Sand, Barbara Manning, Neko Case, Vic Chesnutt and many, many more. Their trademark (yet unpeggable) sound revolves around everything from Morricone to Mariachi, and without doubt their rich, expansive music gets bigger and better with each release and year that goes by. The band today: Joey Burns: Electric and acoustic guitars, vocal, John Convertino: Drums, Paul Niehaus: Pedal steel, electric guitar, Jacob Valenzuela: Trumpet, vocal, Martin Wenk: Trumpet, vocal, Volker Zander: Bass. More info at www.casadecalexico.com, their latest release is "Convict Pool" on Touch & Go/Quarterstick. Thank you to the band, Gil, and Sarah at Touch & Go.
