Options Brian Turner: Playlist from March 15, 2011 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Hey everybody. MANY thanks for an awesome showing during the marathon. Couldnt have done it without yas.
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:07pm HΘRNΣT MΘNTANA:

If Iced Bears were a flavor, they could be . . . spearmint?
Tue. 3/15/11 3:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Don't say BT never plays the Rolling Stones!
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:12pm lisa lisa:

14 iced bears.
play some king creosote why don't you.
and withered hand while you're at it.
and some texas psychedelia.
hey brian.
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:21pm hamburger:

very much looking forward to hearing wire :)
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:21pm KM:

Matt, do you have e-mail I can contact you on? I have that thing that the other night you mentioned haven't heard and wanted to.
Tue. 3/15/11 3:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Shame that Alex Chilton was performing just over a year ago--he left so suddenly.

Sister Lovers/Third seems to have been loved by 4AD Records folk though--This Mortal Coil released a couple of covers from that album.
Tue. 3/15/11 3:23pm randy in NC:

That's great that Chris Stamey's is doing that. Whatever you do, go see the Big Star Third show it is really awesome! You will not be sorry. I saw one of the shows at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. http://bigstarthird.com/
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:23pm Ohm:

possibly silly question on the topic of the marathon: was the goal announced? I can't remember...
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:24pm Ohm:

... welp, there it is. ;)
Tue. 3/15/11 3:24pm Matt from Springfield:

@KM: I'm sorry, I'm trying to recall what that was--I'm searching some playlists I was on, but could you refresh my memory?
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:26pm KM:

a certain SSD that's not on the archive anymore
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:26pm Ohm:

Hey, a hometown band. I don't hear those often anymore.
Tue. 3/15/11 3:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Ohhhh--yes, I would be interested!

Brian, could you send the email I'm using right now to the email in KM's field?
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:27pm Ohm:

@KM: Wow, that might be the one that I've scoured the Internet for. Do you feel like sharing the love? :)
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:33pm KM:

sure. I'll begin uploading it, it'll take a while on my connection though. e-mail me at rai_wander at hotmail dot com so I can get yours then send the link. assuming salamanders don't delete comment this to keep it from getting shared.
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:33pm Steve Rader:

The Endtables! How cool is that?? I am a high school friend of alex durig and today is my birthday, thanks for the great gift of the endtables.....what was the stones song you played that was from altamont??
Tue. 3/15/11 3:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks KM! I don't have a lot of rare material myself, but I could return the favor and ask if there's anything among my collection you could use.
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:42pm paul b:

Artificial Peace went on to become Marginal Man. Sen. Inouye son Kenny was in the band. My friend Dereck Hsu put out their first record on his Fountain of Youth label before they jumped to Dischord
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:45pm KM:

Have you got the SSD Octoroons episode? that was also removed for some reason. I only got to hear it once.
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:46pm BT:

Doh! Sorry not Minimal Man. My post marathon brain continues to be futzed.
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:48pm Blake:

What was the clip about "Do you have any money?" "Eddie Money?" from?
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:53pm Phan:

Brian. Some severe and inspired guitar on the John Allen song at Hoof 'n Mouth. At least, I think it was that song. Wild feedback, etc. Wipers?
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:57pm BT:

Heheh! Yeah, we did up Youth of America. Thanks! Props to Ira Kaplan who was doing Martin Swope panning/delay treatments behind the board on that big mess. I think we drove a few kind listeners out into the restauarant area though, so sorry bout that! Actually, it was a party worth raising the roof for...so many good jams the staff did that nite. Wish I could remember better....
  Tue. 3/15/11 3:57pm BT:

Eddie Money I just found online somewheres....
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:00pm Ohm:

@KM: I've got that episode I think...
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:01pm ben drinken:

i look forward to the t-shirt. it will be kick ass. will wear it beyond holes and stains like my other wfmu shirts.
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:02pm Looms:

Holy f#ck! I forgot i had to tune in 1 hour earlier to catch the beginning of the show. I'm gonna suffer from a "statik jetlag" for 2 weeks. Again...
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:02pm Handsome Harry:

This is truly killin' it. Loving this set.
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:07pm Ohm:

@KM: just checked, I do have that. you received my email, right? I just want to be sure I didn't get eaten by your spam settings.

I'll get it sent to you ASAP. Sadly I've got a terrible connection right now so it may take a bit...
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:17pm KM:

The upload just finished, e-mailing the link now.

Matt, still interested?
Tue. 3/15/11 4:28pm Michelle Bachmann Underdrive:

Rockin me some Brian Turner Overdrive baby! Great Thon B!
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:29pm BT:

Thx MBU!
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:33pm cobradan:

I work on the 1400 block in N. Philly.
Tue. 3/15/11 4:34pm Pat in Philadelphia:

Head Cheese!!!!!
Tue. 3/15/11 4:35pm Pat in Philadelphia:

The South Philly Taproom has wonderful head cheese tacos.
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:36pm BT:

To quote another philly native, Daryl Hall, I'm not sure I can go for that.
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:36pm Randy B.:

@MBU: You ain't seen n-n-n-n-nuthin yet
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:39pm Steve:

They also used to have a Mexi burger which was amazing. Coincidentally, Mexiburger is the name of another Philly synth post punk outfit.
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:39pm ben drinken:

I make head cheese in the fall when i get discarded pig heads from farmers. amazing that they throw these away nowadays when it was a staple for our grandparents.
Tue. 3/15/11 4:41pm Pat in Philadelphia:

@BT You barely taste the head cheese. They're little and only a buck! It's all about the tasty salsa verde! @Steve Here's hoping the Mexibuger comes back this summer. The Mexican Hot Dog is still on the menu though.
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:54pm Ike:

I'd try it, assuming the consistency is less unpleasant than sea cucumber.
  Tue. 3/15/11 4:56pm Sea Cukes:

We find human teeth to have a distinctly unpleasant consistency.
Tue. 3/15/11 5:03pm Pat in Philadelphia:

I've gotta get my hands on this new Melchior album!
  Tue. 3/15/11 5:15pm Carmichael:

From Iced Bears to head cheese in about 40 posts. What a swingin' comments board!
If you want a hot dog, Go to Alice Cooper's place and try The Big Unit.

BT, way to go on geetar the other night. Just watched a snippet.
Tue. 3/15/11 5:19pm channeling Adam Richman:

@Carmichael's hot dog comment: True dat.
  Tue. 3/15/11 5:30pm Bad Ronald:

Wha.. The Coop has a hotdog stand? Killer....
Tue. 3/15/11 5:32pm channeling Adam Richman:

"One take Alice", as he said after hitting the mark on my program.
  Tue. 3/15/11 5:40pm ben drinken:

beef tongue is another good taco ingredient. but one thing i have never did until recently is have kimchi in a taco. i make my own real korean style kimchi (debates) year round. and i heard about the green van that goes around nyc and nj with kimchi in tacos. i mixed up a version for myself at home because i couldn't be in nyc to find this van. holy jeez what an unexpected combination of flavor
Tue. 3/15/11 5:52pm channeling Vincent Price:

Cooperstown's Big Unit consist only of the finest dead babies grilled to perfection.
  Tue. 3/15/11 5:54pm Mike East:

haven't been commenting, but holy crap what great show today. talk of tacos, hot dogs, and head cheese making me hungry, too.
  Tue. 3/15/11 5:56pm BT:

Thanks Mike, see yaz next week and thanks again for the most successful marathon ever. Sorry about my headcheese aversion....
  Tue. 3/15/11 6:44pm RobotBoy:

Could have sworn that 3 Leafs track was from Earth. Pretty neat, pretty cool.
  Tue. 3/15/11 6:46pm RobotBoy:

Woops, guess it was Bongripper I had in mind there, not 3 Leafs.
