Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from December 8, 2015 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

BT did the Lost Treasures of the Underworld label owner get his records to you at (or after) RFTT? he couldn't find you and generously handed me a nice new anonymous weirdo psych record.
Avatar 3:20pm

Yes he did. Do you have any more info about the guy steve, the records have no markings, labels, tracklists whatsoever and I cant figure out what they are!

they were a great heavy proto metal band. Got lots of airplay on underground 70s stations. That's why all the fratboys in A2 kept asking me for their records at the used store I worked at.

We did a drill in the middle of class at MCTC once. It was pretty much "lock the door, get under the table and pray"

yup, we did that one too. I'm in the run or hide camp. Unless I can kick the person in the 'nads. Then I'm all "fight".
Avatar 3:58pm

Active shooter workshops are now a thing? That's pretty crazy stuff but I guess makes sense. Do you all work in some official capacity or is it commonplace?

run in a group, CP! no shit, and it sucks, but only run in a group.
  3:58pm
nEIL cOMMA wILD:

I would fight. I would go up to them and say "hey you left the safety on" then, when the look, grab the gun out of their hands. Because that would be surprising and unexpected.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
chris:

there is a totally ridiculous animal instinct in me to want to go all NRA nutjob and be able to shoot back... but that's horseshit, unless you do it for a living (i.e. shoot people who are shooting at you, for a living)
Avatar 4:02pm
Cecile:

At school we have auto-lock doors in the corridors, and places to hide at work.

Someone should make book or cubicle fabric cammo.
Avatar 4:03pm
Lopez:

That's something else. Had no idea.
We had earthquake drills when I was a kid in California but that's natural stuff
Avatar 4:04pm
Cecile:

I'm glad I'm getting the training, but it is horrible we have to have it.
Avatar 4:04pm
V Priceless:

sounds dumb, but maybe everyone should immediately start throwing their shoes (or anything) at shooters, distract/break the OODA loop just long enough to charge them...also LED tactical flash lights might be good for distraction - they are compact and blinding. It's nutty to have to think about this stuff now...
Avatar 4:05pm
Cecile:

VP, that is something we are supposed to do. If the shooter stops shooting, distract and charge.
  4:05pm
FOXy:

Ben Carson would have already tackled them and bound them.
Avatar 4:06pm
V Priceless:

any split-second distraction is an advantage for we the peeps to overpower en masse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I think my little scheme will be to hide a stash of firecrackers and smoke bombs in my desk. When the shooters come, I light them up and sneak out during the resulting confusion.

It's so strange that Game of Thrones is a mainstream fantasy thing now whereas it seems it must've orig. been written as a dark realpolitik rebuke to standard fantasy.

@Cecile : I like how you keep it realistic. OK is indeed OK.

@ Ike : yeah I guess it's shifting. I wouldn't know really (since I've never read the books). In general I'm quite interested how I feel that the genre is often regarded as less interesting and serious (at least in France) than other literature genre, whereas everyone seem to enjoy GoT. But yeah I'm no specialist.
