Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from October 27, 2009 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

  3:48pm
Tomutonttu:

Hey Brian! This world is indeed moving too fast. But I like it.
  3:49pm
Kat:

yeah, Hurricane, or Sultans of Swing
  3:50pm
!!!:

This show is awesome.
  3:50pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I knew Brian would get on the bandwagon sooner or later! It's just too much fun!
  3:57pm
Kaspar:

this is working well with the dude downstairs playing his newly fixed amp
  4:00pm
Lovich:

Waiting For the D Train... great terrible show!
  4:02pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I think if my computer were to dream, it wouldn't sound quite so phunky phresh.
  4:07pm
Carmichael:

Hiya, Brian. Long time listener, first time poster. I hope you'll enjoy interactive radio and not pooh-pooh it like some of your radio pals.
  4:11pm
Mark:

Brian with a comments page open? I'm ...speechless.

Loved the Sun Ra track.
  4:11pm
BT:

Hi C -- thanks... not so much a poo-pooer as just didnt have the concentration factor to interact and keep the balls in the air --- not to mention those difficult math questions they expect you to solve when clearing comments. we'll see how it goes. Look, I'm chatty cathy already.
  4:13pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

WFMU's new slogan--our programmers keep their balls in the air.
  4:14pm
still b/p:

Like finally and inevitably, like, submitting to, like, the dictates of the commentern....like.
  4:16pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Prince Rama blew me away last month when I saw them in a little coffee shop in Cleveland. i got to shake a rain stick all night!
  4:19pm
Cheri Pi:

Come on people, click on Prince Rama of Ayodhya's paypal link and donate, I just did. Together WFMU listeners can get them back on tour. Every $ makes a difference.
  4:20pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

wow, that's HORRIBLE! I am going to pass this around to everyone who was at the show. I love those guys.
  4:26pm
Cecile:

they were strange and rough and beautiful.
Freak folk before that existed
  4:29pm
Kaspar:

I thought Charles Manson was to blame for freak folk
  4:31pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Must be the season--I heard a Manson tune earlier today as well as a Bobby Beusoliel (Manson associate) tune. Hail Satan!
  4:32pm
Cecile:

I guess I'm talking about before the current wave of bands of that ilk. And with the Axemen, even though there would be group singing, I never got the feeling they were moving as a kind of blissed out zombie army or anything like that.
  4:37pm
osvi:

Ah, Tuesday...Lunch time with a carne asada burrito and Brian Turner supplying the beats. Perfect! Hey, speaking of the Axemen, I'm checking out TNV, Axemen and the Ganglians in Sactown tonight. Looking forward to it...Later
  4:37pm
Liz B.:

You read my mind, I needed some Sparks this week! Thanks BT!
  4:38pm
Coralie:

Sparks!
  4:38pm

  4:43pm
Cecile:

  4:43pm
Glenn L:

Dymaxion covers! Now were talking!
  4:47pm
Parq:

Whoa, I just brought up the palylist to see who did that live Brit track (Sparks, as it turns out) and noticed that Brian is comment-enabled. On behalf of all the regulars, I pledge that we will exercise this great power with great responsibility.
  4:54pm
Carmichael:

Parq, you forgot the "with impunity" part.
  4:56pm
postmanpaul:

hi brian - loving the show an hour early now that british summer time [bst] has officially ended and we enter ye olde time warp that is greenwich mean time [gmt]
the clocks have gone backwards... or is it forwards, no backwards.
we alter the clocks to allow the mornings to lighten up earlier so that children in scotland do not bump into farm tractors on their way to school.
  4:57pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

do the British actually have "summer"? I thought it was all one blurry gray streak over there.
  5:02pm
Mark:

This Maryanne Amarcher track is very difficult...
  5:04pm
Carmichael:

In Ireland we had the Pasty People Parade, where everyone wears shorts and no shirt on the one warm day of summer. It's quite a sight to behold.
  5:12pm
Ralph Wiggum:

Mmm paste...
  5:13pm
postmanpaul:

dce - true we are blurry gray and streaky wee rough tweedy-wearing folk, grateful for small mercies...and yet we are 'strange and rough and beautiful'.
  5:14pm
Parq:

Carm, I was in Galway once when the temp hit 30 Cel. (approx 90F), and Irish folk enjoyed the phenom of U.S. tourists complaining that it was too hot in Ireland.
  5:26pm
liisa:

brian - this is HUGE. comments. wow. dandy.
  5:26pm
postmanpaul:

carm - i'm fascinated by the 'Pasty People Parade' parade. particularly as i've just goo guld and discovered it involves nudist activists! please tell me not to believe me eyes.
  5:31pm
Bad Ronald:

PMP - That's "Pastie" like "pasties and a G-string"...
  5:35pm
anne:

wow crazy song, i like
  5:35pm
Teo:

am sure brian's happy his 1st comments day devolved into blah blah panty talk like every other show.
  5:36pm
corn-ish deelite:

pasties? Surely a delightfull cornish snack with vegetables and meat encesed in pastry.
  5:37pm
Bad Ronald:

Devolved?!? I take umbrage...
  5:37pm
Cecile:

Yes! I love those. Have some in my freezer from Upper Michigan. The American version, which is a steroidized version of the UK treat.
  5:39pm
Ashok:

Astonishng show! Great! I'm loving this Cannibal biz.
  5:45pm
Cecile:

where is a good site to order/find music like this nueva cumbia?
  5:48pm
BT:

sootrecords.com
  5:51pm
Cecile:

thanks, Brian.
  5:52pm
Carmichael:

Putumayo World Records is pretty good in general. They have lots of compilations that give a good overview, and they're inexpensive.
  5:52pm
postmanpaul:

bad ronald - i find your elucidation far more mouthwatering
  5:53pm
Ike:

I don't like a lot of cumbia but that Alika y Nueva Alianza track was pretty cool. Also, Wire Wire Wire Wire Wire Wire Wire Wire. Wire? Wire. And Sharp Ends. Nice.
  5:54pm
Bad Ronald:

  5:55pm
Bad Ronald:

Nice one PMP!
  5:55pm
Carmichael:

PMP, I believe that's why sunglasses were invented. The sun gleaming off of bluish white skin.
  5:58pm
postmanpaul:

a very well ball balanced show brian!
