Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from November 12, 2013 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Obnox  Live in the WFMU studio   Favoriting Engineered By Glenn Luttman    The prolific solo project of Cleveland's Lamont "Bim" Thomas (ex-Bassholes, Puffy Areolas, Unholy Two among others), Obnox treads on some junked-out Stooges/Pussy Galore terrain with ample heaps of white noise and stylistic curveballs. Definitely in the rock and roll corner, yet stretching into some wild and wooly places your traditionalist garage rockers opt not to tread; Obnox has issued 9 releases in only two years via labels like Permanent, 12XU, Anyway, Smog Veil and more. Live they'll be trashing it up today on Brian's show as a two-piece (w/ Elijah Vasquez on drums) and played on the 9th at the Cake Shop NYC. Songs today: I Wanna F*** You Like a Puma / Without a Soul / Woody Haze / Jack N Jill (Don Howland cover) / Cum Inside / Get It Inn / I'm Bleeding Now / Evil / By Myself / Everybody's Fault But Your Own / Dr. Dank vs. Dr. Middic / Rock N Roll Babylon / The Only Black Man In South Dakota (Andre Williams cover). Avatar 3:38pm

I actually enjoyed them without earplugs until the noisy end I guess -- but better choice of venue that concrete pits and Hoseland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
Guido (Cologne):

Still the havit of "noising the audience out of the show" instead of gaining applause?
Avatar 3:39pm
Brian Turner:

They have this old pal Djing before they go on too, a vet Irish DJ who first played them, U2 etc., he was hilarious, playing Bowie and Sex Pistols and going on poetic LSD rants on mic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Guido (Cologne):

.. I meant "the habit" ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

Around what time did they go on last night, BT? I dig MBV but it's hard to imagine it's worth that pretty of a penny.

Thanks Brian. I was trying to figure how early I need to get off work to get change, eat, and get some drinks in me, and 'prep' for the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Ike:

Thanks BT. Hmm. I COULD probably make it to that. I just have to convince myself to cough up the big sack of cash money bills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm
Michele:

How was Murph's band?!

I want to go too but it's a little out of my price range right now, and I have family in town tonight. Bummer.

Psyched for the OBNOX set later in the show!
Avatar 3:50pm
Brian Turner:

Yeah, I'd get there early - last night at the Ballroom the line to get in (even with will call) stretched down 34th all the way to 9th ave. Murphs band was doomier, Orange amps and stuff.
