Playlist for Brian Turner - February 2, 2010

Tuesdays 3pm - 6pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Tue. 2/2/10 3:36pm Joanie:

it sounds familiar, why no label? Where were they from do you know?

Tue. 2/2/10 3:40pm carson:

just started to sound a little doom metal-ish

Tue. 2/2/10 3:46pm bt:

Cecile - super excited... its already done it was really a great xperience - am looking fwd to sharin'. She seemed into it too, even got some emails in the days after!

Tue. 2/2/10 3:49pm numbatwombat:

always down for some muslimgauze! in a dharma-hole; please play more eccentric italian doom metal! that stuff has ruled since there has been metal. no matter when it was made it all sounds completely melodramatic and decrepit simultaneously.

Tue. 2/2/10 3:58pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

maybe she'll do a live version of KISS KISS KISS.

Tue. 2/2/10 3:59pm dc pat:

WHAT?! No Ringo? Forget it...

Tue. 2/2/10 4:09pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

oof!

Tue. 2/2/10 4:09pm Cecile:

aw, brian, that's great.
Wonder if we'll see her on the comments page? That would be CRAZY

@numbatwombat, much like a run-down bordello.

Tue. 2/2/10 4:09pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

the dread VD!

Tue. 2/2/10 4:11pm Cecile:

this is corny, but it sure taught me a lot when I was a tadpole.

Tue. 2/2/10 4:14pm maria:

somewhat back a ways I almost thought I heard echoes of the dirty duck. Dirty duck does doom,, hmm an interesting concept.

Tue. 2/2/10 4:22pm north guinea hills:

i enjoyed that Clubroot, too bad my earbuds at work don't have any drops.....

Tue. 2/2/10 4:52pm jason:

yes yes yes yes!

Tue. 2/2/10 4:56pm git a wave:

Tue. 2/2/10 4:58pm Cecile:

Brian, could you slide some early Scientists in there?

Tue. 2/2/10 5:01pm Pat in Philadelphia:

Holy Moley! Who is Hiiragi Fukuda? And how the hell can I get my hands on him/them?!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:04pm Chris:

@Pat http://www.myspace.com/hiiragifukuda - i heard the track before and went a-lookin'

Tue. 2/2/10 5:05pm BT:

Hey Pat, guitarist of Doronco Gumo, Japanese band that was reissued on Holy Mountain. try info@holymountain.com for some leads on this Hiiragi disc.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:07pm Pat in Philadelphia:

Thanks Chris and BT. Fantastic show as usual!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:11pm Chris:

I am convinced that WFMU deliberately plays music that causes cats to become curious

Tue. 2/2/10 5:12pm Cecile:

Yay! The Sweet!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:12pm Carmichael:

Woo Hoo! Fist in air!!!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:13pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Is it just me or is this song going slower than usual?... I wouldn't be surprised if it was just me.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:15pm Wendy del Formaggio:

By "this song" I meant "Fox on the Run"

Tue. 2/2/10 5:15pm Martha H.:

Slayed! - awesome -

Tue. 2/2/10 5:16pm Chris:

Is it me, or is Brian a little wacky?

Tue. 2/2/10 5:16pm Carmichael:

Thank you for playing the original and definitive version of Noise.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:19pm Bad Ronald:

killer set BT!!!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:20pm Cecile:

Sparks. I need to hear Sparks.

Dude. Death on 2 Legs.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:21pm DAF:

Is this spinning just a touch too slowly, or is it my internets?

Tue. 2/2/10 5:21pm Bad Ronald:

nah, it's Brian...

Tue. 2/2/10 5:21pm brrock:

@del Formaggio:
@DAF
nope, it's happening to me as well

Tue. 2/2/10 5:22pm frisky spike:

I'm glad you're dredging the greatest hits of my youth, but this really is going too slow!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:22pm Carmichael:

I need to hear Spinal Tap. Diva Fever would fit so well in this set ....

Tue. 2/2/10 5:22pm DAF:

Sounds cool, though...

And why the difficult math questions? I ain't no human calcutta

Tue. 2/2/10 5:22pm brrock:

hendrix 'easy rider' has that same draggy sound without any slowing

Tue. 2/2/10 5:23pm Wendy del Formaggio:

This is reminiscent of my early 20s. Similar music, similar effect from the nitrous oxide then, not sure what's causing the slowness now but I like it.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:23pm Cecile:

Play the whole side of Night at the Opera. I dare you.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:24pm DAF:

I suppose 'Prophets Song' would be a touch too indulgent...

Tue. 2/2/10 5:25pm maria:

I lurvve this version of MQ!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:25pm Chuck E. Jesus:

hey man, i was singing along to "lazing on a sunday afternoon"...

Tue. 2/2/10 5:25pm Chris:

Great version (miss queen)!!!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:25pm Carmichael:

Maybe the "and a 1/3" got rounded down.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:25pm DAF:

Wow I feel as if I'm right there... and I am!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:25pm brrock:

@DAF
Prophet's song was like the best thing in the world when I was 9

Tue. 2/2/10 5:27pm Cecile:

andnowIknowandnowIknowandnowIknow....

Tue. 2/2/10 5:27pm Carmichael:

I use this line all the time when discussing concerts: "There was a group called the Jokers, they were laying it down!"

Tue. 2/2/10 5:27pm DAF:

It's like Rick Derringer is giving a concert for those apes from the beginning of '2001'...

Tue. 2/2/10 5:29pm Wooderson:

guilty! (answer to question "did somebody say keep on rocking?")

Tue. 2/2/10 5:32pm Cecile:

Hellmouth and McNeil

Tue. 2/2/10 5:33pm Chris:

i tried googling the band Glubbb bzzzgb fttt fffrtt but nothing came up.What gives?

Tue. 2/2/10 5:33pm Carmichael:

Brings a new meaning to the word "medley" ....

Tue. 2/2/10 5:35pm Cecile:

hey carm, your chicken recipe is a hit on one of my bulletin boards!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:37pm Carmichael:

Glad to hear it, Cecile. I just made it Sunday night. It's become a household standard.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:39pm Cecile:

it's a winner. For sure.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:40pm Carmichael:

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:41pm Wendy del Formaggio:

OK, I wanna know about this winner chicken dinner. Is there a link to the recipe, Carmichael?

Tue. 2/2/10 5:44pm Glenn L:

Getting hungry.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:47pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Pissed Jeans didn't just ROCK the stage, they barfed on it, too!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:51pm Carmichael:

It's a crockpot recipe for chicken tacos. 1 pound or so of boneless chicken thighs, a jar of mild or medium salsa, a couple of smashed-up cloves of garlic, some water and chicken broth, and a few chopped chipotle peppers (the kind in sauce in a can). Tuirn it on when you leave for work, turn it off when you get home.

It pulls apart, like pulled pork. Invite friends over to indulge.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:53pm Glenn L:

Thanks, Carmichael!

Tue. 2/2/10 5:54pm Chris:

It's funny as heck when a band member pukes during a set.

Tue. 2/2/10 5:54pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks, Carmichael. It sounds really good. I will cook it for friends. I like feeding my friends, as some know :-)

Tue. 2/2/10 6:01pm Bad Ronald:

I believe it's mandatory for members of Pissed Jeans.

Sun. 2/14/10 9:39pm m eggplant:

thanks for the play. i really like that track.
