Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from June 30, 2015 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 4:43pm
singing serpent glen:

haa we got called out for 20th Century Schizoid Man rippage while covering Major Stars Syntoptikon at a club recently
Avatar 4:44pm
Cecile:

Lester Bangs accused them of ripping off Mingus, but I never heard it until this live track. Then the influence is there. I wouldn't say ripping off though
Avatar 4:46pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - just knowing Blues &/or Jazz fairly well was still exceptional then - & later same for Classical w/ Prog & Metal. I wonder what Mingus would've thot? Hendrix reportedly was quite impressed w/ Crimson, as was Townshend, fulsome in praise then.
Avatar 4:50pm
Cecile:

I don't think he was a rock fan at all.
Avatar 4:51pm
Cecile:

Fripp also said he never heard Mingus until after the fact, which is kind of cool.
Avatar 4:54pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes - but probably not true of the whole band of accomplished players - & he surely heard those influenced by Mingus. A lot of his Giles, Giles & Fripp is pretty clean Jazz guitar... Wiki say: Charles Mingus Jr. (April 22, 1922 – January 5, 1979) - & he worked w/ Joni - which is not Rock of course...
Avatar 4:56pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I always wondered about Mingus & Sun Ra ; Irwin say Ra loved Mingus, & noted that other Jazzbos didn't exactly all cred Ra then...
Avatar 4:57pm
Cecile:

I'm sure he did. But he says his exposure to Mingus was one track from his group on a sampler in the 50s, and it was a Teo Macero composition
