Options Brian Turner: Playlist from January 29, 2013 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:07pm BSI:

...nice to see you've TIDIED UP a bit.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:08pm kat330:

Brave Millhouse 23: Who's that shaking hands? Curious because we have Nixon on video breaking to the front of a looonnng line at the Seattle World's Fair Space Needle unveiling.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:08pm DCE:

is everybody IN?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:09pm Matt from Springfield:

I am IN!
Tom Cruise, is apparently OUT...
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:09pm Tom G:

haha Ray Hudson! there are websites devoted to his one-liners.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:09pm Richard Nixon:

That is Richard Nixon in the suit and me in the blue onesie. He was campaigning for president in 1968
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:11pm pierre:

bon voilà Brian Turner !

Bonsoir Brian and Brians.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:11pm kat330:

@B23: Ha, I wondered! :) Nixon wasn't anything other than "ex" at the 1962 WF, but he still broke line.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:11pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Wasn't he just an ex-Veep when the Needle opened? If that's their sense of entitlement, look out for the other Dick at public openings!!

@B23: "Don't spit up on the ex-Vice President, sweetie!"
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:12pm jdelz:

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Bonsoir pierre!
I think we would say: to Brian, and Brionians. Or, Turnerites/Turnerettes. Or BeeTs. Or...
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:13pm Marshall Stacks:

"Obnox" used to be a nickname in my family.

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:14pm pierre:

@ Matt : I think you're right sir.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:14pm Matt from Springfield:

@Marshall: How did they pronounce it? I'm tempted to say "obnoksh".
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:15pm Richard Nixon:

I'm not wearing the onesie now. I'm wearing my big gold belt buckle today.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:16pm kat330:

The one Dick is touching looks quite a lot like Philo as a babe.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:16pm Marshall Stacks:

I (coiner of nickname) pronounced it "Ob-nocks." Ob-nocksh would work too.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:16pm jljl:

Hey if you're into more metal, some old UFO or Scorpions would be appreciated.
  Tue. 1/29/13 3:17pm phat:

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: Brionian may be a good name for "fans of Brian"--also works for fans of Brion Gysin!

The Welsh/Cornish/Breton Celtic languages are called "Brythonic"--not quite "Brianthonic" but kind of similar. I'll try to incorporate that into a nickname.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:19pm pierre:

friendship society unite !

(I wanted to shout this at the marathon — it'll still happen — though i wanted to shout it now, on this fury track)
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:25pm Matt from Springfield:

I think that would be the New Zealand pronunciation of kat!

Look Blue Go Purple's video for "Cactus Cat" is introduced by them as "Kektis Ket". Tons of lovely Kiwi-isms in that short interview!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:26pm kat330:

Brian, did you go to your happy place when under the drill? It's Sea World for Breckman. It's floating on Yosemite's Mirror Lake for me.

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:30pm Richard Nixon:

@kat330, nice stuff what I heard. I'll go back and listen more in a bit.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:33pm Brian Turner:

It is.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:34pm kat330:

That's quite a compliment, Matt! I think you've seen my love of Mae West, too.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:36pm pierre:

I've a question regarding the friendship society : in the "private section" informations, what is the "WFMU listener #:" ? Are we getting a number ?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:37pm kat330:

@pierre: It's a number you get when you first pledge.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:38pm MuttonChops:

I think the number is assigned if you donate over $10 million
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:38pm kat330:

IOW, pierre, you should find it on any correspondence / package labels of swag sent to you from the station.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Mae West - the Life Jacket herself!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:39pm MuttonChops:

Mae West had a nice rack!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:39pm kat330:

@MuttonChops: Or the first $15 pledged, whichever is lower.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Pierre, it's not entered automatically, but like Kat said, if you've kept the number assigned to you when you first pledged, you can enter it in yourself.

Everything you say & do will be held against in a court of law.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:41pm kat330:

@Matt: For me it's walking the fine line between humorous innuendo and crass explicitness. Mae, not Chelsea, for me. ;)
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:41pm MuttonChops:

At Joe: Thank God!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:42pm pierre:

you wont be able to get to sleep but hey maybe you'll write a great novel
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:51pm Ike:

@Pierre, I didn't even realize the listener number entry option was there until you mentioned it. That must be there for future pledging functionality.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:51pm BSI:

Screw uppers & downers. I prefer SIDEWAYSERS.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:51pm kat330:

I wouldn't think Mae West physically would appeal to any man in this day and age. But hopefully her wit and great talent are still much appreciated.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:51pm MuttonChops:

Got some Odetta, Bri Bri?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:53pm pierre:

@ Ike : i think it is. I'll have to browse my past pledges, to search for that number.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:53pm Maxim Goose:

@BSI 360 degrees?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:54pm pierre:

Some have pointed out that if it's possible oppression you're protecting against, then you should focus instead on IED rights. As we've seen recently, even a very advanced military occupying lands can be struck down and mangled through IEDs.

NY's son his severely disabled, and he uses model trains and other toys as communicating and bonding tools.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 4:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Except, it seems he's translating The Doors from English, into Non-English English!

"picklesuckers" :D

@Carm: While that is true, Young's motor fetish begins way before he's a father (per his autobio).
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 4:47pm Matt from Springfield:

Hecker gets my Star!!
@MKitty: Do you really think we could handle him more than 5 mins a week?? :)
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 4:48pm Woo:

This is STILL Hecker? Jesus.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 4:49pm Woo:

Oops, I didn't refresh. Piece of crap.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 4:49pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Cerebral Palsy, I recall. In addition to trains, Neil said that he responded to his voice better when spoken through a vocoder. Hence, the conceptual basis for "Trans", on communication in and the direction of modern society.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 4:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Ah, "The Doors Project". My 1st Unfavoriting!!!
"Not with a bang, but a whimper."

Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 4:55pm G:

@pierre: Sorry, I was working. :-) What a concept!

Yes, I know people who work in NYC public schools. After school could be sports, school clubs, additional study or tutoring sessions when required or recommended, etc. It varies by individual school (as long as each school is within NYC Dept of Ed regulations), and by individual student need or preference within a school.

@glenn: Before I split, didn't you mention there's a setting so the space station sighting info can limit to clear skies? Well, we got a notice for 6:41 am today, but our sky was completely overcast. When Philo checked on the setting, apparently it's only available for texting to smartphones. :,

G'nght all! Thanks, Brian!

Sleepers! Great SF post punk band. Once I needed to call the guitarist for the band - Mike White. He was an information operator. I didn't have his work number so I just called information and the operator passed me over to Mike - surreal.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 5:13pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: Around 6 years ago when The Simpsons movie was out, Burger King promoted it with a free Simpsonizer website -- you could upload a photo, specify certain features of your face, hair, what you want to wear, and it SIMPSONIZED you!

@KSdavid: The Wayback Machine has cached websites, but they need a Wayback Machine to send your requests back in time to web apps no longer online!

Jah Wobble on early PiL: "I was bored by most of the musicians around – they were conservative, almost bourgeois. John made a wise choice getting Keith. He was freeform, very deft. The whole band was on different drugs; I was an uppers bloke. We were on different planes that only made sense when we played together."
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 5:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hearing Mr.Burroughs`s voice a few tunes back reminded Me how fortunate Iwas to have spent an evening listening to WilliamS.Burroughs doing a reading in 80sompthin ,,,He wrote that taking diamorphine was a saddled burdon of escapism keeping him in a "straightjacket of dope" He hadda sharp descriptive view that put the reader there.
