Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from June 23, 2015 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

I'd like to know what's the sniglet for WFMU music that is mistaken for faulty appliance noises. Recently, a listener thought his/her air conditioner was failing, but it was WFMU.

I was discussing with Brian how amazing Croniamantal sounds even today, on par with Muslimgauze. I think their were Portuguese or Spanish, not quite sure though.

Rik van Boeckel:

Hello, this is a message to Ryan. I just found on internet this radioshow where you talk about my cassettes from the eighties 'Deze hoofden praten' and 'Hé hé wat moet dat'. You want to track me down, so here I am. I am a Dutch poet/ percussionist and worked during those days with Rob Smit of Kubus Casettes. You are talking that I fall off the map but in the Netherlands I had a good carreer titl the middle of the nineties. Internationally not because my lyrics are in Dutch. I was influenced during those days by Linton Kwesi Johnson, John Cooper Clarke and The Last Poets. Thirty years later I am still involved in music, travelled a lot to Senegal, Cuba, Central America and also Curaçao. I don't live there but still in the Netherlands. You can find the EP Cheer Yourself Up (my first one in English- amix of reggae and dancehall) on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play and Amazon Play. And also the CD Ode aan de mode (with Dutch hiphop and latin) and a Spanish spoken single Yemaya (about Cuba). Here also a videoclip of Mi Rumba: http://youtu.be/xTYXp4mB0wY

And many thanks for taking interest in my music.

Rik van Boeckel
