Upcoming events:

Saturday, July 12th, 3pm - 6pm: Jowe Head
Punk Rock and Roll legend Jowe Head graces the WFMU studios with an amazing mix of new and vintage material. Jowe Head's been playing pioneering, remarkable music since the early 1970s in bands such as Swell Maps and Television Personalities! He also had his side-projects Househunters, Palookas, and currently Angel Racing Food! He also does wonderful art! Jowe Head's prolific creativity is rarity for the level of high quality of these endeavors. He played recently in the US and WFMU was able to record a session with him (his band in the US consisted of Mad Scene-r Lisa on drums, plus underground rock legend and DJ Bill Berger on guitar plus WFMU's own Brian Turner on bass!!) Will the session have any rare versions of some Swell Maps tunes? Ya hafta tune in to find out!

Saturday, July 19th, 3pm - 6pm: Big Dipper
The Cherry Blossom Clinic is fired up to welcome the legendary Big Dipper to the WFMU studios for a live session two decades in the making! After nearly twenty years, the original Big Dipper lineup of this classic Boston indie band reformed for a few, exceptional reunion shows in NY, NJ and Boston a few months back. Merge Records recently released a 3-disc set retrospective of Big Dipper material called Supercluster, compiling BooBoo, Heavens and Craps records (plus mucho rarities and unreleased material!) and the scarce shows were in celebration of these records finally being back in print! Big Dipper are not planning on reuniting and touring like before, so if you missed those shows here your chance to experience what you missed! So if you were a fan back in the day, or you're looking for your next favorite band, tune in!

(HINT: A Big Tip for the Big Dip fan: Big Dipper will do another rare show on 9/30 with Bob Pollard's new band Boston Spaceships at the Paradise in Boston!)

Saturday, July 26th, 3pm - 6pm: The Effigies
The Effigies were the first hardcore punk band to come out of Chicago and they are highly regarded by rock cognoscenti for their influential crushing, dark sound. They played for a decade and broke up in 1990 but recently have reformed and will play live on Cherry Blossom Clinic just prior to their show at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ!! Hear a taste of the Effigies on the radio, and then go see them that night at Maxwell's. You can also check them out the Friday night before (July 25) in Brooklyn at Southpaw.

Saturday, August 2nd, 3pm - 6pm: Great Plains
From the wilds of Columbus, OH, come the amazing Great Plains! These guys started their 60's infused low-fi rock attack back in the 80's, paving the way for countless bands. Great Plains are remembered for their college radio hit "Letter To A Fanzine," truly one of the best, funniest comments on 80's indie-rock next to Sebadoh's "Gimmie Indie-Rock," and like Sebadoh, Great Plains had a large body of extraordinary, catchy, clever, non-novelty songs that you should hear and know. Led by the amazing Ron House, Great Plains are one of the most significant Ohio rock combos of all time. Check out this jaw-droppingly fantastic session with Great Plains and finally find out why Punk Rock guys go out with New Wave girls!
