Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

this track is terrific and terrifying.

Your playlist page gif suggests you believe in evolution, Uncle Michael. Are you sure that's legal in Kansas?
Avatar    Fri. 3/28/14 12:05pm listener james from westwood:

There should be a German compound noun for "starring the first song of the first set."
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:06pm Goyim in the AM:

I am imagining this fish saying, in the words of Jimmy Castor's Troglodyte, "GOTTA FINDA WOMAN GOTTA FINDA WOMAN GOTTA FINDA WOMAN" and cracking myself up.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:06pm Andrew Waterloo:

It may be a satire on evolution.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:06pm Uncle Michael:

I'd like that.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:06pm duke:

This is the kind of beat a fish with legs could dance to.

So you see, Ms. Dunn and Ms. Steinem, a fish may, in fact, sometimes need a bicycle.

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:12pm Artie:

If fishes were bicycles, we'd all be riding waves.

Curt Boettcher-produced Association...yum.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:48pm V Priceless:

In Neil Young's Hank to Hendrix, the Hank is Hank B Marvin.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:54pm Gaylord Fields:

I saw Cliff at Joe's Pub in Manhattan almost a decade ago, and he was wise enough to begin and end his set with "Move It."
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:54pm Brian in UK:

Worth a second spin.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:54pm pacific standard simon:

Avatar    Fri. 3/28/14 12:54pm listener james from westwood:

Can I listen to this cut twice in 2 days? Yes. Yes I can.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 12:57pm Uncle Michael:

Gaylord, is Cliff's overbite as adorable in person?
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:00pm Gaylord Fields:

It's often said that Cliff was an absolute flop in the States, and although that's comparatively the case as measured up to his Elvis-size hugeness in the UK, he has had nine Top 40 US hits spanning four decades.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:00pm Brian in UK:

@UM his permatan is scary. Well he was born in India.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:01pm Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: Cliff is still swoon-worthy. I got to shake his hand and I also swiped the set list from the stage.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

Candi is my girl...so you all just step back.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:02pm still b/p:

Hearing Clarence Carter reminded me: anyone else see the doc on the Muscle Shoals studios? ...and didn't it seem to give the distinct but incorrect impression that FAME studio's Rick Hall wrote Patches himself?
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

Good on ya, Gaylord!
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:04pm Uncle Michael:

It didn't claim that but it was made to give that impression. I had *lots* of issues with that doc.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:05pm Brian in UK:

@ still b/p What Rick Hall was saying confused me frequently. As for Bono's comments. Just play the music.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:05pm still b/p:

List me a few mo' issues.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:06pm Uncle Michael:

Bono was one of the worst things about that. The first fucking voice you hear...
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:09pm Uncle Michael:

The film reduced Penn and Oldham to almost nothing.

Keith Richards is a joke interview.

I don't need to hear from any celeb talking heads talk about anything but their own personal experiences there.

What demographic was that Alicia Keys stuff pandering to?

Hellen Keller???????
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:17pm Webhamster Henry:

I immediately recognized the voices of the Firesigns! But I don't know this one!
Avatar    Fri. 3/28/14 1:17pm listener james from westwood:

A sincere LOL on that "19" line.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:18pm still b/p:

Style-wise, the too many, way too self-consciously posed/composed/choreographed shots of people for extra visuals were irritating.

Lot of interesting info in the doc. Hall...quite a role in music, one way or another, but good gosh I wouldn't want to hang with, work with or work for, be related to or drink with that man (though his pile of personal non-work tragedies was genuinely tough).

As for our other friend, I'll re-use a line from a play that I posted on Joe MCGasko's show recently:
"Most experts believe only a few people in history have ever self-actualized -- like Plato, Gandhi, Einstein, maybe Bono."
Avatar    Fri. 3/28/14 1:21pm Guido from Cologne:

Enjoyed this show so far very much!
Have to run.
Have a good one everyone!
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Guido!
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:23pm Alex In Illinois:

I have been enjoying this edition of Hinky Dinky time too. Good thing I can switch to the APP so I can keep listening while I run downstairs to get some lunch.

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:25pm Johnny_A:

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:27pm ndbob:

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:29pm Alex In Illinois:

This edition of Hinky Dinky time seems even better than usual.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:30pm Uncle Michael:

It's a crapshoot. I swear. There is no design.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:37pm Johnny_A:

come come Uncle Michael, don't sell yourself short
Avatar    Fri. 3/28/14 1:39pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:45pm V Priceless:

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:49pm northguineahills:

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:49pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:50pm Uncle Michael:

I know nothing about him!
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:51pm efd:

I found this, which is only moderately helpful:
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:52pm efd:

All that's missing from your bat signal is the ability to be certain that I'm not away from my desk when you bait the hook.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:52pm Uncle Michael:

There's an app for that.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:54pm efd:

Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:57pm Doug Schulkind:

I am still not convinced that Mr. Starr and his friend like the sound of funky music.
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 1:58pm Uncle Michael:

He sounds a little mealy-mouthed about it, doesn't he?
Avatar Fri. 3/28/14 2:01pm efd:
