So, my interim job w/ the Manhattan DA's office will start Jan 8th. They really feted me trying to take this temp position saying it was beneath me (they used a lot of flowery language) so they don't use me for my permanent position. Unfortunately, after the DHS does my security clearance (which looks to be marchish), there will be another 6 months to process me. so, i'll be in nyc w/ crappy pay, but, my compensation for the permanent job will be worth it..(finally escaping florida)

Cowpunk Deluxe got here late Saturday. I was finally able to pop it in the CD player of my truck last night on the way to the store. The player is stuck on shuffle, so I rarely know what I'm going to hear. No Free Lunch by Green on Red came up on the digital display. Very quickly I had a catch in my throat. The piano layer in the band - Chris Cacavas and I were very good friends back in the day. Not just night club pals, but I use to eat dinner with him and his family often.

This is so amazing that this is getting re-issued. Well deserved. About 11-12 years ago I found Dorothy's first album at a record store. Like for $3 in the folk bin. I just got back from a little trip to Ireland. Was on a tour of southern ireland with some friends. The tour guy passively mentioned a few Irish musicians and writers who died. Sinead, Dolores O'Riordan, etc. He had all these sad jokes..."he had a liver transplant, they gave him another one and that one betrayed him too". Then Shane MacGowan died and he made an announcement and played a song. Sort of added him to the tour. Surreal.

Shane was good friends with Barry, the original co-owner of the Irish Rover, where he could regularly be found anytime in NYC. The Quays was his second in three local bars he’s opened (current one is the Whiskey Bar). Sure there’ll be lots of great tributes, storytelling, laughs.
