Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm paddy in matawan:

Love the simplicity. Wonder about the security.
Avatar 6:07pm Bas NL:

All credits to Kenzo for the WFMU pages. Going strong for 20 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm brainiac:

I'm still happy with my 160 GB iPod Classic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm ultradamno:

Yeah. A lot of website design is new at the expense of intuitiveness and function.

WFMU Website feels like it was made by HUMANS
  6:07pm GListener MW:

the WFMU minimalist / unobtrusive / “retro” (unintendedly or not) website is a major component of my love of WFMU! Seeing WFMU switch to a modern new Java-filled Wordpress theme would be a major bummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm ultradamno:

Hey DiL!
  6:07pm Chico:

I honestly wish WFMU would go back to the original homepage layout so everything matches again. Not a fan of the homepage looking completely different from the restof the site!

I am a major fan of the WFMU playlist for so many reasons. This is my favorite and becoming my only social media, it works and it works well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm ultradamno:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm paddy in matawan:

Esther Povitsky had a line on Alone Together "you know I don't touch physical media, it's cursed"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Webhamster Henry:

Kenzo updated the playlist software a few months ago. Remember when it used to refresh the screen to update?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@ZeeBee - the WFMU playlist is my only social media too.
Avatar 6:14pm Bas NL:

I guess SM Ken's gif fetish prompted that update.. that was a data hog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm ultradamno:

Can anything good follow the line "a number of people on Twitter saw"?
  6:15pm Listener Robert:

I had the same experience with the Church of Balder Rising's Web site, mostly hand HTML coded by me, and the rest legacy pages by the other Bob: Someone this year told us it looked 1990s. That was fine with me, but the other Bob has a taste for fashion, so we had the critic redo it. It looks fancy now, while previously it just looked functional.
  6:15pm Chico:

I imagine it would have been too much of an undertaking to facelift the entire site, and they just opted to do just the homepage. Silly......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm melinda:

Yes to old technology that still works. Reminds me of an interview I watched recently with a guy who wrote a book about the fetishization of innovation, I forget the name.
  6:18pm Listener Robert:

I'm usually put off by all the face-lifting and other changes to Web sites, especially interactive ones that I then have to relearn to use.

I really, REALLY hated it when around the turn of the century Reason magazine redid their look. The new look was made for people without presbyopia and in general looked ugly and less functional, albeit fancy. Apparently it's what all the cool kids go for now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Mark Hurst:

@melinda sounds like an interesting interview!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I am very happy to remain stupid and analog rather than implanted and smart.
Avatar 6:19pm Bas NL:

Monday morning. Download a weeks worth of worthwhile workplace experiences and return to bed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm melinda:

@mark I'll find it and post
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I really want to read this book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Mark Hurst:

Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm ultradamno:

Well, Netflix has settled the Black Mirror lawsuit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Handy Haversack:

@tim, the problem is when more deeply precariat workers are told their ability to earn and survive will correlate with their ability and willingness to get more implants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Mark Hurst:

@Tim find the link to the book at left, in the playlist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Mark Hurst:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Webhamster Henry:

I always thought there should be a drugolympics to show the true limit of human capabilities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm DjLorraine:

Could this be a substitute for dopamine?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm melinda:

@Mark meaningoflife.tv...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Thanks, Mark. I'm going to put an a purchase request for it at my local library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Mark Hurst:

@melinda thanks!
@Tim good call
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm ultradamno:

Sure, you don't want to get the library bends
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Mark Hurst:

@ultra heh - don't go up too fast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Handy Haversack:

Jeez, I have lost reading time to the pandemic. No commute, work is extra hard, I start on cocktails at 5 PM. I can't even fathom how I'd fit in giving a crap about social media.

Except FMU playlist, obvs!
  6:25pm Chico:

I would love to see the station broadcast in a lossless audio format. That be a worthwhile update/upgrade!
  6:26pm Dean:

Libraries are the place where one is supposed to be able to read books. And yet long before Vint Cerf and Sir Tim Berners-Lee librarians were mocked (a sexist thing) for "Shush!"-ing. Now that "information" (books, but also ads, blogs, tweets, nonsense) is ubiquitous, libraries are forced to compete for people's attention. That requires using the library for more than mere information-seeking and consuming, i.e., reading.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Mark - train for the future paralympics discus team to chuck the ipad really far!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Mark Hurst:

@Tim now that's the synergistic thinking we need on this show
Avatar 6:28pm Big Kat:

The Future is on DVR.
C'mon folks, just scroll forward, find out the Lottery number and let's get paid.
  6:28pm Dave Miss:

Howdy all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Webhamster Henry:

This book sounds fun! Kind of a thought experiment like "The Encyclopedia of Ignorance", where various thinkers discussed the unsolved problems in their fields.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Mark Hurst:

@Webham I think you'd enjoy it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm tim from champaign (now washington):

See, I don't need no implant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Mark Hurst:

@Dave Miss welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Mark Hurst:

@Tim with that kind of synergy, I was wondering if you might be chipped already!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm melinda:

It's true that reading is relatively new to humans, in terms of what we evolved for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Webhamster Henry:

"I'll look for you when the war is over - an hour and a half from now" -- Prof. Tom Lehrer

  6:35pm Chico:

Season 3 of "westworld" is the closest most likely version of the possible dystopian future. Minus the lifelike androids that is.
Avatar 6:36pm Bas NL:

Or technology that just augments life?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm ultradamno:

On the positive side of drones, new season of Battlebots this week. twitter.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Handy Haversack:

I thought bagpipes were the positive side of drones. An old tech that still works!
Avatar 6:38pm Big Kat:

Tech copies LIFE in order to recreate life, so that we don't have to live in it. We can watch it instead.
  6:39pm Dean:

You are correct, Handy! Bagpipes, hurdy-gurdies, and tambouras.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm ultradamno:

Bagpipes, the most destructive of all the drones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Mark Hurst:

@Handy I think @Webham would say something about drones in that sense
Avatar 6:40pm Big Kat:

ooh ooh @Handy.. and @Dean
how about drones that mimic the Apocalypse Now scene in the choppers playing music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm ultradamno:

...or disruptive, at least.
Avatar 6:41pm Bas NL:

Bagpipes are a form of transcended technology.
Avatar 6:42pm Big Kat:

"Shall we dance...?"
[substitute drone for chopper!]
youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm ultradamno:

I think what they mean by "I did my research" is "don't question my information", like when someone says "you know what I'm saying?" it's not an invitation to further inquire into what they're trying to say.
Avatar 6:42pm Big Kat:

Fuck bagpipes,
Ride of the Valkyries
Avatar 6:44pm Bas NL:

@ultradamno; Like 'That's a good question!'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Webhamster Henry:

Just click on my name in the chat to see my WFMU profile which a drone link in it.
  6:44pm Chico:

Thank god drones are still vulnerable to RF jammers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Webhamster Henry:

Drones are pretty vulnerable to hawks and other raptors!
Avatar 6:45pm Big Kat:

Mark! each time you say "if you're listening in the future,..." I imagine a douchebot picking up a thumb drive in the planet-wide, transcontinental desert.
  6:45pm Listener Robert:

It's like with everything, people like to save time by going to...whatever source they trust. I know people who don't trust QAnon, but have some means to get info more directly from "Q", whom they do trust.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Handy Haversack:

It would really do loads for my self-image if all the pets burst into applause when you say "Handy Haversack," Mark!

I wonder if some sort of chip would help ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm iiibeat:

Yep. My dystopian vision . . Compliance (on all available levels) becomes currency.
  6:47pm Listener Robert:

No, seriously there are people who think QAnon distorts what Q says.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Sorry for being 404 so far. I was consumed by a nap.
  6:49pm David in London:

The only chip I will accept being put into me is the one that comes with salt and vinegar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Handy Haversack:

Bravo, Sheila! One of the best DJs around and hearing her make that decision was moving and empowering. You rock, Sheila!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm Handy Haversack:

That's fine, David. We have nanobotted the salt, and that's smart vinegar. But enjoy!
Avatar 6:50pm Bas NL:

  6:50pm Chico:

Big ups to Kenzo and his amazing work! Reliability is everything to me!
  6:50pm David in London:

One of the pernicious I think is Linked In, which masquerades as something ‘work based’ and ‘necessary’, but in reality is the same old tosh.
