Love this sweet and sour combo of Lee Konitz's lilting alto sax and Albert Mangelsdorff's rough, gruff trombone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Doug Schulkind:

The trombone sounds almost didgeridooish.
  10:14am Listener Gregory:

Can't help wincing when I hear poor Albert Mangelsdorff, because it sounds like so much work to play the way he does.

I believe that face in the spinning record image is from a Hitchcock film. Can anyone hazard a guess which one?
Swag For Life Member 10:22am mauri:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Doug Schulkind:

The bass player on this R&B monster is the great Sirone.
  10:24am Listener Gregory:

Clearly the person who's reflected in the disc is being driven mad by the jungle rhythms of ragtime, or something equally disreputable.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Doug Schulkind:

Kind of an oddball choice to pick an instrumental number from Peter Grudzien. But then, I've never been accused of being an evenball.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Jeff Golick:

I qualify my guess, because I don't at all know the movie. When I saw the title, I assumed it referred to something one wears on one's finger or nose or other appendage.
Avatar 10:56am still b/p:

In the stills from The Ring, it's apparent that for the boxer in and out of the ring, the cry was, "More make-up!" Looks like Marcel Marceau in a couple of the images.
  10:57am Listener Gregory:

Belated comment on that Karen Dalton number. I know early Ray Charles work pretty well, and I had no clue that she was singing one of those numbers. I need to check her out, clearly.

An utter infestation of those around here in the last 15 years! Like they're built from the same few kits.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

I spent some quality time trying to uncover the real name of the Trinidadian performer who goes by Sambo. It remains covered.

I'm so happy to have reunited you two lovebirds.

Even Sir Shambling doesn't know Sambo's true identity: www.sirshambling.com...
  11:54am Listener Gregory:

When I was a child, my grandmother used to read me the kids' book, Little Black Sambo. He didn't sing like this, but he did turn the tigers into butter. (Seriously, he did.)

Until quite recently there was a restaurant in Santa Barbara called Sambos. Back in the day in was open 24hours, so you always had a place to stop on the way to San Francisco no matter how late you left L.A.
