Golden Hour of Anatolian Rock

We honor the 55th anniversary of the day Dylan shocked (or at least annoyed) the purists by plugging in at Newport - with a celebration of Turkey's Golden Age of plugged-in folk, which happened to get rolling right around the same time. Starting in the second hour of tonight's show, we'll hear source recordings and some of the electric versions they inspired (with a few more recent adaptations too).

On a different (and off-air) musical note: If you're hankering for some old favorites (or new old favorites) check out the new Transpacific Sound Paradise All-Time African Music Faves Spotify Playlist at http://tiny.cc/wfmu-tsp-african-faves!

and now i am craving Turkish food! :)
found out yesterday that a vegan Turkish joint will be opening in Hoboken -- not Nefista (which i think has a place on MacDougal Street?) -- but Happy Vegans or something like that (both are based in Clifton, NJ -- where my family first ended up on this side of the Atlantic!)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

As Psych definitely looked East to the hashish lands - it always seems appropriate they should look back. I have a particular love for & fascination in Musics of the latitudes where the West & East meet - & I appreciate you & Gary on Bodega Pop informing me of what I would simply not hear otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Handy Haversack:

RevRab, did you make it to the live jazz at all? (Not that there has been any reason to miss this fantasticness!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Handy I'm ashamed to say I blew it & it slipped my mind. I am in such a state / routine these strange days... I quite regret it.
  8:27pm Carmichael:

Late check in. Sure it has been wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Handy Haversack:

RevRab! No worries! I will make sure to tell you if I hear she's doing it again -- sounds like the sort of thing that is likely to recur. Sorry, friend -- did NOT mean to act like you *should* have gone to see it! Happy to pass along the info again if I get it!

All our states are strange right now, friend. Totally understand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers - I wanted to is the thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Handy Haversack:

I gotcha. Regret is the flavor of the age.

I'll let you know. Kate's going to be in touch with Elizabeth for artistic musician reasons, so the lines of communication are open, intersecting, and expansive.
