Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm listener james from westwood:

Evening, Mark and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm ultradamno:

Yeesh. That break the chains thing...John Oliver did a little thing at the end of his show last night on the almost as tone deaf Papa John Tik Toks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Webhamster Henry:

My guess for today's theme: BIG TECH BAD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Webhamster Henry:

There was a nice scary article about the internals of the TikTok App and what it seems to collect and transmit.
  6:06pm Dave Miss:

Howdy hotdogs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Mark Hurst:

Hi ultra, James, Webham!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Mark Hurst:

@Webham find that TikTok article linked at left - via boredpanda
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Mark Hurst:

@Dave hi!
Avatar 6:08pm herb.nyc:

Sports cliché- "Techtonic punches above its weight", and *they* should be scared.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm ultradamno:

Does Chatroulette still exist? That was stupid.
Avatar 6:10pm Cp304:

good evening peoples.. i'm late
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm ultradamno:

'cause turning your frown upside down is all it took.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Mark Hurst:

@herb @Cp304 welcome!
  6:12pm kevlicki:

Hey Mark, did you hear the segment on systemic racism in AI on Democracy now last Friday?

https://www.democracynow.org/2020/6/26/racist_facial_recognition_technology_joy_buolamwini

Was good but I wish the interviewee mentioned more about how the big tech companies may distance themselves from AI, but the cat is out of the bag, as previous guests here mention.

I gotta go to a meeting now.
Will listen on the archive
  6:12pm David in London:

Good evening Technoids. Hello Mark.
Hey ultradamno.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Mark Hurst:

@kevlicki thanks for the pointer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Mark Hurst:

@David hello!
Avatar 6:13pm herb.nyc:

SnapChat did that? Come on! Let's have the names of all the executives who approved this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm ultradamno:

Hiya DiL!
  6:13pm ignatatus666:

Hi Mark
FB has the broken chains as an emoji
  6:14pm Switchblade Batman:

And r/the_donald got permanently banned too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Folsom:

@mark links don't open in new window
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Mark Hurst:

@Folsom fixed it, try it again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Folsom:

@mark it works, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Bas NL:

Late! Hi Mark! Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Folsom:

@switchblade i heard that all of the users had gone to r/conservative for a while now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Mark Hurst:

@Bas hi, welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Webhamster Henry:

18 months is probably enough data redundancy that losing older data actually makes for a more precise data targeting .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Webhamster Henry:

In short, it's actually an optimization for them, spun as a security improvement.
  6:19pm David in London:

That’s a nothingburger with a side order of onion rings and an extra large milkshake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Mark Hurst:

@Webham heh hadn't considered that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi spies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm listener james from westwood:

Adobe! I and all of my graphics-design chums lean in, ears cocked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm Mark Hurst:

@KfHP hi!
  6:21pm Dave Miss:

I’ve been using Photoshop since the late 80s. Let’s just say Google learned everything they needed to know from adobe. Adobe bought and destroyed any good creative company that had a decent product such as Macromedia‘s full line. I’m sure they have loads of info for sale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm a Pixelmatorist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Mark Hurst:

@Dave you've seen it since the beginning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Bas NL:

It's time to start naming and shaming buyers of these data.
  6:25pm Switchblade Batman:

@folsom, I heard similar. But a lot of them rage quit reddit to go to some bargain bin reddit clone like voat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Folsom:

what is the military system that uses a high flying plane/drone to get general movement of people, cars, etc and then once they know where to dig down they use local cameras?
Avatar 6:26pm Cp304:

@folsom.. skynet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Megaroni:

Yes drones were at more than one rally I attended in NYC, very unsettling
  6:28pm ?:

Dave Miss, you're so right about Adobe; Macromedia products were brilliant. Still miss them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm ultradamno:

Police still pretty much have faith in polygraphs too, don't they?
  6:28pm Sam:

The courts need to rule that facial recognition software can’t be used to arrest or convict people. Period. Just like the polygraph test. So completely outrageous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm ultradamno:

Also, if you watch the mini-series Atlanta's Missing & Murdered, your faith in fiber analysis might be called into question as well.
  6:32pm Sam:

How about every time there’s a grainy crime video and it’s hard to tell who the perp is, the default is they arrest Mark Zuckerberg, until he can prove his innocence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Webhamster Henry:

Fb has been stepping up sloppily justified "violates community standards" post takedowns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I know you're not supposed to point lasers at airplanes. What about pointing them at drones?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm ultradamno:

The principle of fast movin' thing breakin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Webhamster Henry:

I like the "send eagles after drones" technique.
Avatar 6:39pm craplivion:

profit driven data mining control and servelience
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm listener james from westwood:

It's like the Sleeping Giants tactic against Fox News: hit the advertisers and finally, when the money is threatened, the only thing they care about, they'll react.
Avatar 6:39pm herb.nyc:

(Ahem) mark, we know you and all the wfmu DJs and ken and michele and the skeleton crew- yr all in it for the money. End and end.
Avatar 6:41pm craplivion:

google your email.you may see a bunch of your activity online.
  6:41pm GListener MW:

Amazing. <3 What a very-needed piece of good news in these trying times
Avatar 6:42pm Cp304:

down with the algo's!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm ultradamno:

Duterte. The worst of the worst.
  6:44pm ignatatus666:

I clicked on a Honey company that was giving away a jar of honey on FB
Instantly a pop up warning that read they are collecting and using my data if I continue. I immediately backed out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm ultradamno:

And we've seen this tactic used to target trans children for abuse domestically
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Webhamster Henry:

Jair Bolsonaro is also a piece of work. They don't have to be the worst - there's an easily reached low bar that has been crossed by plenty of "elected" authoritarians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm ultradamno:

White supremacists use social media to organize racist attacks amid unrest www.ajc.com...
Avatar 6:49pm Cp304:

govt? or deep state lady..
Avatar 6:50pm Cp304:

and it aint just the journo's, it's society in a whole
Avatar 6:52pm Cp304:

i think drudge said it best.. get out of these internet ghetto's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm ultradamno:

I'm still shocked the baby wasn't named Gremlon
  6:53pm Listener Robert:

I'm glad Mr. Hurst brings up all these subjects for discussion, for the attention they deserve. However, he's always blaming the instrument for the ends it's put to.
  6:54pm Sam:

Just the fact that you need to consult a special site called deletefacebook.com to delete the damn thing should be warning enough never to sign up!
  6:55pm ?:

this should be on music of mind control.
  6:55pm Listener Robert:

Take the bit about face recognition. What's the difference between misidentifying an alleged criminal by putting his picture out and asking people if they recognize him, and doing so via tech, and acting on the result either way?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm ultradamno:

That was really bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm ultradamno:

Like hair metal Aqua bad.
Avatar 6:56pm dale:

i was question mark - wasn't signed in.
  6:56pm olivia:

there have been some reviews on this we appreciate POWER song where they're completely boggled by the lyrics. I think the trajectory of grimes place in culture as a "tech" electronic music "siren" is worthy of more analysis....
  6:56pm ignatatus666:

Just got a fat package full of WoodMoo swag!!
Be patient the swag is coming
Avatar 6:56pm herb.nyc:

More power to mark and wfmu!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm chresti:

Avatar 6:57pm Cp304:

Thanks Mark, good listening..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Mark Hurst:

Thanks, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm ultradamno:

I wish I changed my handle to "and the mysterians" and got a message right underneath it.
  6:57pm Thanks:

Mark
  6:58pm David in London:

Thanks Mark.
Ecraser l’infame,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm WR:

Mark is a messenger, we all have to fight the fight...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Webhamster Henry:

Lota news this week! Meanwhile, Disney is pumping up the deepfakes: www.theverge.com...
  6:58pm Listener Robert:

You think Facebook wouldn't be working with any big customer, or with whomever used their tech to win Philippine elections? They're not to blame for Duterte's policies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Stillwell Coney Islander:

Riveting show tonight Mark. Thank you !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm listener james from westwood:

Always forget that NIN released that in 1989. My college years had a lotta good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Who's to say that Zuck doesn't have data to blackmail the firms (executives of said firms) that are leaving him?
