Morning Jeffrey & planeteers , that first track was so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24am Jeffrey Davison:

Just a reminder that in NY State, face coverings are still required out in public. I see maybe 1 in 10 or so not wearing them. The regulations are not just to protect the non-wearer, but those around them. Continuing to take precautions will actually help facilitate the reopening that we all look forward to, whenever it comes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Creature Boy and Roadside Picnic.

Granny Spicy Tuna?! Hello there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Nulsh! My partner and i were chuckling over your IG posts yesterday. Such great stuff!
Avatar 6:37am ottovonbqe:

Ok, so here is my story of the week. I am about to start a new (work from home) job and the employer requires a drug screening. They sent me the order and I went down to the local Quest laboratory. I live in western massachusetts but in a dilapidated city that isn't exactly a brain trust. So I drove into town, parked and put on my gear, and climbed the stairs to the third floor of the old building that Quest shares with a bunch of other medical type offices. Dim hallways, ancient HVAC, I start thinking maybe this isn't a great place to be. I open the door to the Quest office and see two guys sitting next to each other, masked but one of them has the mask pulled down, I guess to show that he doesn't care about it really. Then a woman comes in behind me, on crutches, no mask, immediately starts talking loudly about the "bullshit" sign about masks and 6 ft. I sign in and am relieved to find that I can wait outside and be texted. So I go out, cross the street, watch a maskless older man come along, sneeze into his hand, then enter the building. I put on my gloves and go back in when I'm texted, but am told I took to long and they went to the next person. I am starting to have an anxiety issue, and argue with the sole employee of the establishment, who is intaking the crutches lady. Crutches lady tells me to "take it easy buddy" and I can sense some murmurs of agreement from the guys behind me, and generally sense that the three of them have been discussing me and criticizing my decision to wait outside. So I left and came back in the afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37am Nulsh:

Aw Granny, that's great to hear amigo! Thank ya'!
Made my day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40am Nulsh:

Like the way that electric guitar just pops out!
  6:44am buddha of Suburbia:

Morning Jeffrey Morning gang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45am Jeffrey Davison:

ottovonbqe: yes, unfortunately the wearing of masks is now a political statement, one way or the other. This is not British troops being quartered in your home; it's wearing a mask in public during a pandemic, and it's for the general good. I had thought that the common good was a thing. Maybe that's just old-fashioned of me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47am Nulsh:

BOOOOOOOOOODDDZZZ!
Mornin'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48am Jeffrey Davison:

Hey there, buddha of Suburbia. This is early for you, I think. ;) Welcome.
Avatar 6:49am ottovonbqe:

Jeffrey - I never went in much for "messages of unity" and such from presidents but one can see now how the simple act of the president endorsing masks and common sense would save many lives and avoid a lot of strife.
  6:49am Buddha of Suburbia:

morning Nuuuulllssshhh!!
6:50am Ajay from Krommenie / NL:

That Stonefield Tramp track was excellent.
  6:50am Andrew in Toronto:

Good morning Jeffrey and all other Planeteers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51am Jeffrey Davison:

ottovonbqe: many of the things we do for unity we do without thinking about it much, all the social conventions that we've learned to adopt that we can have a peaceful, orderly society (as we are able to, at least)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52am Jeffrey Davison:

Original of Outlander was put out by Warner Bros, not RCA as I just mentioned.

Good Morning everyone! thanks for great show Jeff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am Nulsh:

I watched two films back to back the other night: 'A Boy Called Sailboat' and 'Blue Ruin'.
A whimsical tale of a small Mexican boy with a guitar, and a violently bleak revenge tale.
Kinda worked for me!
  7:03am Cooh John:

Good morning Jeffrey, Sem and fellow planeteers. Warming up and breaking out the short sleeves.
Avatar 7:08am TDK60:

Morning Nulsh, was just in the kitchen heating water for my morning beverage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am Jeffrey Davison:

Welcome TDK60, Planet Tyler, Falcon, and Cooh John.
Sem and Planet Tyler: as I said, most of Meic Stevens's recordings are in Welsh, as he was part of that whole folk revival which included language as well as music, etc. Outlander is a great record. I also remember Ghost Town, which are recordings from around that time also, and include a couple or so tracks that were on Outlander. Not sure where these tracks fit in exactly with the rest of his output.

Yes, i do prefer hills. I can see the Bay Bridge and the tips of the Golden Gate from my place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Deborah, and whatever some physicists believe, there is only one universe, and WFMU is the center, seemingly with Bill Kelly (The Black Hole of Rock and Roll) at the center of us all.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am Deborah:

@Earth Walker Vegetarian is good; so many alternatives to meat, poultry, fish! I don't drive either and used public transportation to get everywhere. Now there is nowhere and transportation has been cut 50 per cent. The Before Time is history. Just want a museum and a coffee place more than other people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeffrey and songsters. You might like to peruse this after the show. The Staves, lovely voices, and they went to the same skool as our daughters.
www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning StringOFperils and Earth Walker.
Earth Walker: while I think some governments want to instill fear, and I don't exclude the USA, there are warnings that may inspire fear but those that inspire caution. This is a fearsome virus, terribly contagious, and we're a long way from a virus. This ain't the flu, which wreaks enough havoc. I don't think it's too much to wear a mask. I don't drive through red lights, even at 4am, with no other traffic, and not only because I may not see the cop parked around the corner. It's the right thing to do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42am Nulsh:

I like the song this chap did for The Detectorists TV show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42am Stanley:

Thanks Nulsh and TDK. I have just checked the Nicola Sturgeon's address from yesterday, seems the only relaxation is now you can go out more than once to excercise. And masks recommended in shops or on transport. At least I've got cured meats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am Jeffrey Davison:

This one if for Dave, in Kentucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44am Stanley:

This is a beautiful show, this morning.
Avatar 7:44am Sem:

Good morning, Stanley. Aye, a man w/ smoked meat is a contented man, given the externalities...
Avatar 7:44am TDK60:

Some seem to think that not wearing a mask, keeping safe is some sort of rebellion. It's not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am Nulsh:

Stanley, sorry for the bum steer. Was sure they'd said additional family checks were OK now.
My English mates call Nicola Sturgeon Wee Jimmy Kranky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am Jeffrey Davison:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46am Jeffrey Davison:

Brian in UK, good morning, and yes to The Staves. Haven't played them in awhile. Thanks for the reminder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48am Brian in UK:

One of my long term plans is to devise a smoker. Old wardrobe might do the job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50am Brian in UK:

Our glorious leader seems to think that waffle is the way forward. Not a fan of pancakes either. Gimme a galette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50am Jeffrey Davison:

I've been taking time to reach out to people I haven't been in contact with enough. I'd recommend doing that, as so many are shut in by themselves, and lacking physical touch. At least some kind words and love sent in another's direction will be welcome. And for god's sake, don't use that as an excuse to rant about what's going on, if at all possible. Most people are up on the news, or perhaps don't want to be.
Avatar 7:51am Sem:

BiUK, so exaulting to hear those harmonies of The Staves. LIve, it seemed, no headphones to be seen. Amazing musicianship, at least to one ordered to lip-snyc during grade school musical performances.
Avatar 7:51am StringOFperils:

@BRian...Galette looks delicious. Had to look it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51am Jeffrey Davison:

Brian in UK: haven't heard about Wafflegate. I'm with you on the galette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53am Stanley:

Thanks Nulsh. There are many English who are inherently prejudiced against the Scots and don't get it that Nicola Sturgeon is a respected and trusted politician. It's probably jealousy. I once saw her talk on a panel at the Book Festival and she was inspiring. Daughter of an electrician and a nurse, I believe and MSP for Govan of Rab C Nesbitt fame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54am Brian in UK:

Jeffrey, apologies if I have mentioned this before but I bought a copy of Lal Waterson's 'Teach me to be a Summer's Day'. It is home recordings I think but what a gem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am Jeffrey Davison:

Brian, I'll check it out. Don't know it. Thanks!
Avatar 7:56am StringOFperils:

That IS correct! They were married.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am Jeffrey Davison:

Another great musician, good genes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am Jeffrey Davison:

Sibylle Baier is still around, by the way. No music forthcoming, I don't believe, though. Pity.
Avatar 8:03am TDK60:

Yeah, I dig Meg Baird too, DJ. She has a mysterious sound. Marisa Anderson seems similar to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am Stanley:

Jeffrey - thank you for the recommendation and the point about ranting. At the beginning, I was pretty good at keeping in touch but, apart from a daily call with my parents, this has dropped off significantly. Partly due to not really having anything to talk about but also, I have to admit, being tired of hearing what a spiffy time friends and family were having in their gardens. Of course, if I had a large house and garden, instead of a small flat in the city, I would be enjoying it just as much. However, I imagine most people, regardless, would have worries and difficulties at this time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60: agreed on Meg. I do love Marisa Anderson, too, but not sure she has that similar a vibe, but her versions of trad songs are great.
Avatar 8:06am ottovonbqe:

Stanley, if it helps my garden is a disaster. The cat keeps pooping in it and the endless windstorms keep blowing over my pea treillis.
Avatar 8:07am TDK60:

Jefjrey, I feel a connection between the old and freakier new with M.A. Can't explain. Another cuppa tea...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am Phillippe Bastille:

Good morning! What a lovely song to tune in to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

tea! brilliant idea, i haven't had any yet today. so glad i have tea in the cupboard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am Jeffrey Davison:

Stanley: I know how you feel. It seems, often, that there isn't much to talk about, though sometimes those are opportunities to go deeper, starting with whatever the other person is anxious about, perhaps.
ottovonbqe: sorry about your garden!
  8:09am ignatatus666:

I heard a dog barking
I know it’s not mine he’s right in front of me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am Stanley:

ottovonbqe - sounds like time to plan a project for the garden. I have tried to do something about my state and have asked for an allotment, locally and I'm on the list. Here's hoping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am Jeffrey Davison:

Welcome ignatatus666: does that mean that your dog is usually far afield?
  8:11am Earth Walker:

Jeffery so right I wear a mask in the stores I’ve had asthma on and mostly off for years I play it safe These illnesses before and now come from animals being confined abused example factory farms now After hunter gatherer the shit hit the fan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11am Stanley:

Thanks, Jeffrey. I'm going to call someone later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am Brian in UK:

Stanley, get your arse over here, plenty to do and the bonus of sleeping in the coop. Seriously, time to dig out Sir Henry.
I could take a call.
Avatar 8:13am StringOFperils:

In this world, a garden is a nice thing to care for, to dedicate the time to quietly help things, with some satisfaction that you helped things to be alright.
Avatar 8:14am StringOFperils:

I suppose nurturing a radio show is a little like gardening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

my partner has been tending our tiny garden, planting native wildflowers for the bugs to enjoy. It's humble and deeply refreshing
  8:15am Mark R:

Brian, thanks for the links--The Staves are wonderful and the virtual museum tour looks like a lovely way to pass an afternoon (or 5!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am Stanley:

Brian, what a lovely offer. When we get the All Clear, I'll be over. In the meantime, I'll give you a call.

StringOFperils: reminds me of the story of Candide
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am melinda:

Morning everyone! South China is from my area, what a treat to hear them first thing in the morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am Jeffrey Davison:

Earth Walker: I hear you about factory farming and raising of livestock. Very destructive in so many ways. Watching Chef's Table has been a good reminder that so many chefs are to thank for helping to revitalize local agriculture and more traditional ways. In many instances, the beneficiaries are upper crust people who can afford to eat in expensive restaurants, but I'm hopeful that these practices will be come more widespread, in the same way that "health food" and yoga were once the province of "hippies", and are now mainstream.
Swag For Life Member 8:18am 12539:

(Ah Stanley, I thought that too!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19am melinda:

@Jeffrey that has been my hope too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19am Jeffrey Davison:

melinda, good morning. South China, largely unknown, alas.
Mark R: welcome.
  8:22am kevlicki:

  8:23am kevlicki:

I wonder if all these gardens are going to affect my bottom line!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am Jeffrey Davison:

kevlicki: good luck with your work. I hope you prosper!
  8:25am ignatatus666:

Stanley if he was far afield I would have thought it was him. He has a huge yard to play . Very grateful for that. In the house he wanders about playing and barking. He lives to bark. During that song I can hear a dig barking in the background. I wondered if you had a dog and somehow the sound cane through very faintly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am Jeffrey Davison:

Ignatatus666: lucky dog.
Avatar 8:28am StringOFperils:

@stanley...It's a mad world, and I am, in my own ways, completely mad within it. Carrying a Panglossian world in my pocket, while the world royally kicks my a**, is a choice, unintelligible to many. I know I will be indifferently eradicated, but some bees will have been content, and the thought of that makes me smile. the best of all possible worlds CAN exist in a back yard, a window box, an allotment...
Avatar 8:28am TDK60:

Morning Kevlicki. Folks, Kev is a farmers' market denizen. His farm is not attending the market now but making specific deliveries. The other day he brought me a big bag of various greens, direct from the farm. Wow, Muchas gracias Kev!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am melinda:

@kev if people are gardening for the first time, I don’t think it will
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am Stanley:

The Revelator. What an album.
Avatar 8:35am ottovonbqe:

melinda is right. people don't realize how hard it is to garden productively. weeds, pests, birds, soil issues. takes a lot of time and you wonder how we have enough to eat at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am Jeffrey Davison:

Stanley: I do love Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. It's been a long time since I saw them live. Used to see them every time they came to town.
Avatar 8:38am ottovonbqe:

I have had good results with beans and peas, not much else. Doing ok with garlic too and hope to be "garlic neutral" in a year or two, i.e., able to grow 52 heads or so a year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

we need the farmers
  8:38am Earth Walker:

My wife just got back from shopping here in Nice she said around 95% of the people were wearing masks Good idea plus the French government I hear will give tickets for not doing so not such a good idea
Avatar 8:40am ottovonbqe:

I don't know why bandandas haven't caught on more. I think it would solve the problem of tough guys who think the mask is girly. They could come in confederate flag designs, camo, hot rod themes, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am Brian in UK:

Just heard that Jason Isbell has a new one out. Where is my card?

Alpha males are not scared of wearing masks. Fake alpha males are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am melinda:

@ottovonbqe so true. I always grow some cherry tomatoes, herbs and salad greens but depend on my farmers market for most everything else, including the seedlings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am Stanley:

Jeffrey - You've probably seen the concert at St Lukes in London (2007?). If not:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am Brian in UK:

Jeffrey, thanks for being here.
Avatar 8:42am ottovonbqe:

All the more reason to give them a way to save face so to speak. Those sub-alpha males are probably carriers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43am Jeffrey Davison:

Granny: most farmers in the US are over 60. Doesn't seem like a good situation at all.
ottovonbqe: I do see a lot of bandanas and that new kind of face covering which is sorta like a bandana but a more complete face wrap thing.
Brian: ha! And yeah, Isbell has a new album. Haven't heard it but I hear it's a good one. (and thank you)
Stanley: no, I hadn't. Thanks!
Swag For Life Member 8:43am 12539:

Thanks for the show, for being there, and for everything else you do, Jeffrey.
  8:44am snoochienucci:

A good, faded, morning to everyone out there!
Avatar 8:45am ottovonbqe:

I will say this for gardening. Farming is crushing work, gardening often feels like diversion. And some things like peas taste so much better super fresh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45am Jeffrey Davison:

12539: thank you. It's a pleasure.
snoochienucci: good morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am Nulsh:

Love this song.
  8:48am Earth Walker:

Ottovonbqe. Vandana Shiva wrote a book Soil not oil she also won a Noble Peace Prize. Organic farming I really enjoyed listening to her on Food Revolution. Ocean and John Robbins
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am Brian in UK:

Oh the taste of a carrot pulled from the ground, dirt wiped off and that sweet crunch when you bite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49am Nulsh:

I've lived on nuthin' but dreams and train smoke.

Bloody marvellous!
  8:50am snoochienucci:

Wow that was awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

meanwhile, these sweet tunes keep rolling along, bringing the gloaming to the West Coast

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Jeffrey Davison:

Holy shit...I completely forgot to thank Ruth this morning, for doing board op. Thanks, Ruth. I guess I'm not as awake, or as grateful, as I ought to be.
  8:53am snoochienucci:

Great stuff Jeffery, really easing me into the day!
Avatar 8:53am ottovonbqe:

Thanks Earth Walker - I have read about her before. The seed monopoly issue is really sad.
  8:53am Andrew in Toronto:

Thanks, Jeffrey.
Great show, as always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

the transition from Shrunken Planet to Double Dip Recess isn't quite as extreme as the one from Irene to Prof Dum Dum was, but it is striking!
Thanks, Jeffrey and skeleton crew.
  8:54am Earth Walker:

Avatar 8:54am TDK60:
