I dedicate “Autosuggestion” to the drill sergeant from “Full Metal Jacket” because this sound is exactly how his face makes me feel.
Avatar 9:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Ultradamno, I saw Tuxedomoon opening for The Cramps at The Mabuhay Gardens in March of 1979. They had a strobe light synched with the music that Winston Tong did this kind of funny herky-jerky dance in. That was the only time I ever saw them, but it was obvious they were a home town favorite.

Man...so bummed. I know some of you know, my dad stroked out and I've been dealing with that, and I thank you for sharing stories and all the support. NOW, I have been staying with him full time the last few days, and it is torture. Nothing against him...it's just not my place and he s a different guy than I've known my whole life. Anyhow...to shorten an already over-lengthy post...he is not paralized or anything, and can probaby be alone half the time, but there are issues and he gets lonely for the first time in his life, so I do what I do. However, music is missing in my life...and WFMU mainly! Even though I chimed in earlier, I went back to the TV room with him. Life...it's a ride. Happy Friday...all. Dan...looking forward o some tunes...sorry for the journal entry. I love you all! Like it or not...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Mr. Pumpy:

@John...I am. It's taxing, hence the full-on vent. But I am. Danke!
Avatar 10:10pm coelacanth∅:

Mr.P you just have to fill in all the other time as much as you can with the sounds you thrive on. i had to do that with my father, 20 years ago, for over a year. much less wfmu in my life and less music in general - but i survived it. hang in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Daniel Blumin:

@Mr pumpy vent away we will listen, who knows you might get xx some good advice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Daniel Blumin:

Thanks very much, ally! Really appreciate the kind wordses!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Mr. Pumpy:

Holy shitballs! I never heard this marriage of two of my favorite things...Nina on H. Brown. Killer!!! Funny, my dad isn't that into tunes, but one of the few things he got me into as a lad was The Times They Are A Changin' by Dylan. Coincidence?! Thanks a ton, Dan!
Avatar 10:11pm coelacanth∅:

it is taxing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Mr. Pumpy:

@coelacanth∅...thanks. I'm hanging. And he knows I'm out of my mind. I play it down, but it breaks my heart. Anyhow...I ain't special...it's life. However, it's all relative, and I appreciate the words. Somewhere out in the distance, seven new people were born...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Daniel Blumin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Mr. Pumpy:

@coelacanth∅...wow. We'll see how this played out. Funny you should mention your girlfriend becuse my ex (fiance!) has been texting me to hang out and shit, and with all I could say about her, one of the positive things is she would rise to this occasion. Alas, I am not going down that road. The timing is odd though.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm ParUbi:

Hey Mr. P, coel, HH, John, Ken
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Daniel Blumin:

Greetings, Handy!
Avatar 10:22pm Franco Twinkie:

Mr. Pumpy, we all get a different deal. This afternoon I went to see my mom who was in full on needy-nutty mode. I hung out and held her close and it seemed to calm her down. I was able to escape soon enough and go to the somewhat less insane Trader Joe's and do battle with all of the other holiday shoppers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Handy Haversack:

Oh, man, I need to explore Espers. Every song I hear I like so much.

Honestly, same with Pentangle.
Avatar 10:23pm coelacanth∅:

shit Mr.P that's rough. it must be tempting to get together with her under the circumstances. not sure how strong i'd be.
  10:23pm jeff-m:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm ParUbi:

  10:25pm John from Florham park:

Avatar 10:25pm Franco Twinkie:

This and Blue Afternoon are my two favorite Tim Buckley albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Handy Haversack:

ParUbi, very sorry to hear that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Ken. Thank you. I may come across as humble, but I would hope anyone that could, would. I do realize that is the thought of an idealist though. Yes...he knows it's Valentine's Day, especially since we were on line behind some fella at CVS earlier and I couldn't help but point out how they were trying to fleece him by charging him 30 buck for a busted bouquet of gas station roses! He resisted. Guess his lover was better than that or not worth it!
  10:26pm John from Florham park:

@lOarubi on the weekend morning shows I know a fellow chatter who is in hospice because of that
  10:27pm John from Florham park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar 10:27pm coelacanth∅:

damn, Ubi i'm sorry to hear it.
Avatar 10:28pm Franco Twinkie:

Yeah, sorry ParUbi. When my dad was diagnosed I took him to all his appointments because my mom couldn't handle it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm ParUbi:

@HH, thanks. It was unforeseen-- he went in for jaundice and they found a mass. Looks like it's palliative care from this point out. @John-- I think I know who you're talking about. Didn't know that that was his story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, Mr. P! Good to have inside info.

My parents both died when I was fairly young, but it's had to see friends in my cohort starting to deal with their folks' mortality. There's nothing easy about it.

John has spamoni been on the boards this week? i'm almost never tuned in that early but happened to be when he said (paraphrasing) "i think today is it".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...no, nothing. I actually wish this took my dad out because he is miserable and not into living this way. I know it would gut me, but perhaps less, and I believe it is what he would want. Sorry you had o deal with it at a young age.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Daniel Blumin:

ParUbi, there's plenty deep freq on the album! I'm very sorry to hear about your dad...
  10:33pm John from Florham park:

@Handy you got that right, had to deal with that with my mom coming up 3 years in late May
Avatar 10:34pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm ParUbi:

He's 80 and had a good life. But it is still not easy to process.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Mr. Pumpy:

coelacanth∅...I haven't been on early either. I used to see spamoni on Shrunken Planet a lot, but I'm sleeping in now. I traded in for the cool kids ;)
  10:35pm John from Florham park:

@Coel I have never seen him on the boards during the week at all, so I don’t know what is happening and I am afraid to find out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm ParUbi:

I didn't know it was hospice care for s, that's heavy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Handy Haversack:

Oof, sorry to hear that, John from FP. It's been ... jeez, a bit over 23 years since my dad died? The pain eases, the sadness stays, and in some ways in gets easier to love them. In my experience.

I saw Spamoni on Shrunken Planet Sat. and wondered if he had passed. But I don't know him as well as others.
Avatar 10:36pm coelacanth∅:

i know i've exchanged pleasant words with spamoni at some point but very little. i liked his avatar enough to save it to my desktop images
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm Mr. Pumpy:

@John...I was thinking the same recently. I just checked and saw a post from 5 days ago...yes, hospice and all. Total fucking bummer. Good peeps.
  10:38pm John from Florham park:

@Oarubi like I said Sunday was rather heavy and I almost had to leave the show because it was so depressing, you kinda learn wuickly who is ok on these chats and who is a dick
Avatar 10:38pm coelacanth∅:

i guess we'll find out this weekend, when he's either on Jefferey's and Carol's boards -or not.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Par, speaking of DL...have you watched the short film he did for Netflix recently? Worth a look.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Mr. Pumpy:

I've suddenly become concerned that snuffmonkey.com may be an actual internet site. The *potential* horror!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Handy Haversack:

I'm certainly not going to search for it. We may *be* parasites. (Just for one day.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Handy Haversack:

This is excellent, by the bye, Daniel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Mr. Pumpy:

Handy...I don't blame ya! Maybe we're snuff-monks (just for one day)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm ultradamno:

Dome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm ParUbi:

These tube-headed musicians are quite good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Mr. Pumpy:

Yeah, Dan. I hope you don't feel ignored. These killer vibes fuel the madness on the accu. This is so sweet. Dome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Mr. Pumpy:

Dan...the flip side is you may be responsible for primate snuff films, a copy-write suit from RCA, and a class action lawsuit from tinnitus suffers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm chresti:

From '81..damn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Handy Haversack:

Now I feel like I wasted both 1981 and 1992.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm chresti:

Haha..right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Handy Haversack:

I ain't taking the blame for '59. Nor the marrow bones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm chresti:

8:00 pm here, in lower California
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Mr. Pumpy:

I have Dome 1, 2, 3, and 4 on vinyl in my Amazon cart and I'm about to pull the trigger. I ain't broke, but I could be if I continue this vinyl madness. It was so damn good though. What is the acceptable number of vinyl albums to have which you haven't listened to yet before buying a new one (or perhaps percentage)? Opinions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Handy Haversack:

Better than POTUS (that was for you, John fom FP!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm ParUbi:

It's all about the happy/sad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Handy Haversack:

Mr. P, do you have a turntable that works? If so, follow your bliss. If not, see what your bliss says tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm melinda:

Good evening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm chresti:

murder/valentines day goes hand in hand
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Handy Haversack:

I had never heard Dome before. I really dug it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm ParUbi:

It's all about the blood/heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm melinda:

yay, 6ths
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Handy Haversack:

WOW. It's like a wall of accordions! Who are the Sixths?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...yes, but a few thousand records as well, and I can't work overtime due to my situation lately. Also, many records still unlistend. I'm trying to be good, but the bourbon is pulling me in another direction. Also, I lie the way you're thinking!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm melinda:

@Handy it's one of Stephin Merrit's projects
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Mr. Pumpy:

Sixths! Merrit is awesome. DAMN...Cave as a follow up!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm chresti:

The 6ths song was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Handy Haversack:

@melinda, ah, OK, thanks! That sounded great! I tried for a Magnetic Fields request on W&B this morning for Kate, but it might have been "too dark"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm ParUbi:

I like Magnetic Field's songs Strange Powers and Smoke and Mirrors
  11:15pm Cabbage:

Hear hear Ubi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Handy Haversack:

@Mr. P, I have a fairly decent stack of unread gaming (D&D-like) material here, and more coming. Same with books. My feeling: at some point relatively soon, industrial capitalism is going down the tubes and won't be able to deliver this stuff to my door any longer. When that happens, I'd like to have some good reading material and some ways to provide some fun for people. That is, get it in while you can. Tomorrow LITERALLY never knows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Handy Haversack:

Wow, that song was a ride. Nice, Daniel. I appreciate the label on this one, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Daniel Blumin:

Thanks, Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm ultradamno:

That Tietchens / Liquidsky was like a Dadamah instrumental...nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm SeanG:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Handy Haversack:

Good. Ness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm ParUbi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm chresti:

Give me a pigfoot and a bottle of beer..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Handy Haversack:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah. A mighty judgment.
Avatar 11:53pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Daniel. Next time St. Valentine's Day falls on a Friday will be in 2025.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm ultradamno:

I recall Martha Wainwright's cover of this being a standout of the I'm Your Man movie.
Avatar 11:56pm slugluv1313:

Good Evening, Daniel and everyone!
fantastic show -- Tim Buckley AND Nick Cave AND Leonard Cohen -- perfect for St. Valentine's Day, imho :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Handy Haversack:
