What? A show? On Tuesday? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Jan Turkenburg:

I really missed our sunday get together :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Otis Fodder:

Tuesday?!? Shhhh, don't tell the boss.
Avatar 11:04am Martinibomb:

Sounds like someone is still in an Exotica mood after GG's show yesterday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Jan Turkenburg:

Just almost finished listening to yesterday's LHT exotica special so this follows up smoothly.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Otis Fodder:

Always in an Exotica mood. Playing this after seeing Mr Fab's post with UNGAWA! First thing that came to mind, the TAMBOO! record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Ike:

Hello. Escaping from Sammy Hagar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Otis Fodder:

Can't drive 55 huh? Hi Ike! Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Jan Turkenburg:

It so happens that I am planning this version of JTMNP for coming up 'Jan's cover of the week' because we're having a small Gainsbourg-festival coming weekend in Zwolle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Otis Fodder:

Oh nice Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

bonjour!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Jan Turkenburg:

I have invited the organiser to do a Gainsbourg special on Frame Duggy Louder. He is in to it, but probably it won't happen this friday already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Otis Fodder:

Salut Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Granny
Avatar 11:12am Martinibomb:

that sounds like a fun show Jan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

record UNfair!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

holy wow, the song titles on this "Let's Dance Raw" album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am ARB:

Ululating yell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Otis Fodder:

Ungawa ARB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

it seems i've heard more exotica on this stream in the past week than usual. it's making me miss my grandparents. they lived the exotica dream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi to Rich, MB and ARB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Otis Fodder:

True, loads of exotica this week... ahhh, in the Jungle, room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

is this photo Astrud imitating a Keane painting?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Otis Fodder:

Quite possibly! Cover so good, it made the show title this week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Margaret Keane seems like a natural fit for SJR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Although it would be Walter Keane hanging out in the Jungle Room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Rich in Washington:

I am now snowed in. Briefly got out yesterday to check in at work and get some needed cabin fever requirements (coffee, wine, beer, cheese).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

cheese can get you through most things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Rich in Washington:

Cheese is essential.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Otis Fodder:

I did the freezing rain grocery run last Friday before the weekend. Stock up and Stay home!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Rich in Washington:

I wish I had some Gruyère. All this lovely French music is making me want to cook something with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Rich in Washington:

I spent all Sunday reshelving records and realized I need to be more brutal with my thinning of the herd. I was literally cramming records into shelves using the shoehorn method. I think that's what I'll do today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Choppity chop! The problem is, sometimes that makes you remember why you obtained the record and you end up keeping it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Otis Fodder:

I would buy a... should write a... book on organizing music collections with interviews.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yeah, for instance I have records of Angelo Branduardi with music that I really don't like anymore, but the sleeves remind me of good times...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Jan Turkenburg:

really a split second interruption there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Rich in Washington:

Indeed, Otis! I would buy that book. Your discussions on culling a collection - and also Martinibomb's additional suggestions - is what inspired me to go all Marie Kondo on my collection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Rich in Washington:

@Granny Spicy Tuna @12:00: That's exactly part of the problem! I set a bunch aside and am occasionally randomly working them into my show sets and I remember why I bought them in the first place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Rich in Washington:

I heart Jane Weaver.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Otis Fodder:

Here too. Take my money without listening first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Rich in Washington:

Lovely set, Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

oooh, yeah, and i really enjoyed that Greg Foat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm ARB:

I'm anticipating....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Rich in Washington:

I love these records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

is this really the bed music for this? WHY?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Otis Fodder:

Ha, no, mixing the lesson with the Howlround record. Wish it was released like this for future DJs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

YES!
Avatar 12:44pm Martinibomb:

Nice1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Otis Fodder:

This book was worn out considerably in my back pocket years past since.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

A pal of mine always imagines Batman when he listens to Hakim Bey, and now i can't stop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm ARB:

Otis, I'm really happy you're on Tuesdays since I can't tune in Sunday, now I get to be here live!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm ARB:

What !? Hi Jan, this is great!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm ARB:

I want one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Rich in Washington:

I'm with ARB. It's actually hard for me to tune into much on weekends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm ARB:

Rich it feels tragic that I have to work in the public sphere on Fridays during your show but occasionally I'm able to sneak in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm ARB:

One of my all time favorite Residents tracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Jan Turkenburg:

Thank you ARB :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Otis Fodder:

Rich - These extended Residents CDs are amazing, love that cut too.

ARB - Jan recorded that for me 10 years ago, time flies. So good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Rich in Washington:

I'm pretty fortunate in that I can listen to radio where I work and am usually left alone to do so most of the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i'm thinking back through my life and remembering special radio moments all the way back to age 3. Wow, what a lifelong friend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

I was trying to figure out WHEN i really got into radio, and i couldn't think of a time it wasn't important to me. But maybe age 10 is when it got serious and i bought my first record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Rich in Washington:

Radio was my lifeline as a kid. I remember tuning into our local community radio station and hearing classical music, an Arabic music program, Soul and R&B shows, and just sitting there on my dad's hi-fi with headphones and just be transported to another world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Rich in Washington:

This is lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Mostly listened to Portland stations, KMJK, magic one-oh-sehhhvehhhnnn! and K. G. O. N. RRRROCKSSSS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

this whole program is lovely and i have clicky starred it for future possibilities
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Otis Fodder:

Just a cat in his room playing the songs he loves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Rich in Washington:

I accidentally found KBOO while turning the dial. I heard the aforementioned Arabic music show. I would then tune into it every Sunday afternoon if I could.
Later on, I was similarly tuning the dial when I was a teenager and heard Bowie in the middle of the night, and from then on, my dial was permanently stuck on KBOO. Some amazing late night programming. Little did I know, I would decades hence become one of those weirdo KBOO DJs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Rich: i love that story!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Rich in Washington:

KGON was fun when I was a preteen. I remember when they'd do stuff like play an entire side of a Pink Floyd LP late at night.
  1:24pm Domenic:

Thanks for the story Rich... Kboo sounds wonderful. My own new local station WLPZ is in the grips of a strong arm general. Waiting get to Back..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Webhamster Henry:

This sure is goovy, Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Webhamster Henry:

groovy that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Otis Fodder:

Hey Henry, cheers sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Webhamster Henry:

KBOO was part of Lorenzo Milam's KRAB nebula.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Rich in Washington:

Unfortunately, present-day KBOO is in a spiral not unlike WBAI's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Rich in Washington:

I think its heyday was the 70s to sometime around the 2010s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Webhamster Henry:

Morricone Youth is of course run by WFMU's own Devon E. Levins, who you can hear later today on Morricone Island: www.wfmu.org...
  1:32pm Domenic:

Community Radio can be a nut house. Patience Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks Henry, yes!!
Avatar 1:33pm Martinibomb:

My pal Devon! His show rules and this track holy moly wowza
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Webhamster Henry:

You can get a little Portland Radio from Tony Coulter right now on the Drummer stream ... (yeah, I run several WFMU channels at once some times)
Avatar 1:35pm Mr Fab:

hi all! Oh yeah, i often listen to Tony's show...sorry Tony, Otis has my ears on Tuesdays now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Rich in Washington:

Big fan of Devon's show! But only recently aware of the awesomeness of Morricone Youth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Webhamster Henry:

But also, "XRAY", KXRY, is not too bad - it was the friendly home of Greasy Kid Stuff until Hova and Belinda retired the show.
  1:36pm Domenic:

Sheena is a nut house. a FUN nuthouse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Webhamster Henry:

Morricone Youth did a live soundtrack of The Lodger up here (Kingston NY) about two years ago. Super professional!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Domenic: my favorite nuthouse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Rich in Washington:

My first forays into doing WFMU stream shows was as a sub for Tony's show. I dig it!
Live shows have my live ears, though. I usually catch most pre-recorded shows via the archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Otis Fodder:

Hey Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Rich in Washington:

I miss Illegal Art! Such a great label!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Webhamster Henry:

WFMU's radio cup overflows with archives... including Steinski of course: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm rawvegetable:

Nice!
  1:42pm Domenic:

The archives are vast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

oh that drama queen, Thirlwell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Rich in Washington:

This IS epic!
Avatar 1:54pm Mr Fab:

yep, he'll always be Foetus to me. As recently as within the last couple years, I still hear college radio DJs (not WFMU ones) mispronouncing it as FOE-tus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Otis Fodder:

Fi Fyeeee FOE tus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Webhamster Henry:

Funny Comic Strip cover here!
Avatar 1:59pm Mr Fab:

yeah! "Je t'aime… moi non plus" is usually the only Serge tune I ever hear instro versions of
Avatar 2:00pm Mr Fab:

OMG, a Lothar & The Hand People cover?! Or is this the original?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Rich in Washington:

I love lounge act records, especially ones where they do some kind of half-baked medley.
  2:41pm BC Sterrett:

Love the thunder sounds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Otis Fodder:

Otis: Thank you???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i can smell the Aqua Velva
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Rich in Washington:

I am kicking myself for getting rid of them years ago, but I once found a bunch of cassettes at a Goodwill that said Red Lion Inn and had dates (Red Lion Inn was a hotel with lounge just on the river bordering Portland/Vancouver).
It was some unlabeled lounge act's tape archive and it was marvelous!
I think I got rid of them long before I got into digitizing tapes. Sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Otis Fodder:

Oooooh scratchy, someone left this one out on the coffee table and 'rolled' considerably on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Otis Fodder:

Oh, those sound good Rich!

Aqua Velva, haaa!
  2:45pm BC Sterrett:

I don't mind scratchy as long as it plays. It often adds authenticity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Rich in Washington:

oh my. Wonderful! Thanks for that, Otis! And for requesting it, Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

you can tell they put a LOT of effort into this
  2:46pm BC Sterrett:

This is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Rich: this is a treasure. Otis, i will never be the same.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yay for organized records!
