Back in the '70s most Euro art/prog/psych albums sold in the US were "imports" -more expensive, rare, not easily available. You had to know a good rekkid store or someone with the dough to buy those LPs. As I dimly recall.
Avatar 9:44pm spidermank:

  10:58pm tim from Champaign:

For years I thought Can had 2 drummers until I looked closer at album credits. Great show!
  11:02pm P-90:

Was just contemplating tim's comment, and Daniel brought it up on air
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Scraps:

On Saw Delight and Out of Reach, they did, if you count percussionist Reebop Kwaku Baah
Avatar 11:05pm khd:

i've had that experience with other bands (lightning bolt comes to mind) but not with Can. I just thought Jaki was really fucking good!
  11:07pm slawooy:

Doesnt Jaki’s lastname translate smth like Loves Time? Liebzeit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Scraps:

Question: Does anyone in the Krautrock scene get annoyed with the name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Scraps:

Some people call anything in Germany in the 70s Krautrock. It should be about style, but Rate Your Music, for instance, is all over the place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm coelacanth∅:

the name "can" - "Malcolm Mooney had originally suggested the name Can due to it having positive meanings in various languages. For example, in Turkish, a language much heard in Germany due to high numbers of Turkish speakers, "can" may mean, depending on the context, "life, soul, heart, spirit, beloved and vitality"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm coelacanth∅:

that's contrary to what others have said...that Jaki was told to try simplifying.
Avatar 11:25pm Jason Elbogen:

This is very interesting, Daniel. I had no idea about this...
Avatar 11:29pm northguineahills:

Told you I'd make it!

@coel: Can is also a Turkish name, but pronounced "shjon" (nearly jon), as you know.
Avatar 11:39pm northguineahills:

I saw Damo Suzuki in a club that was an old bunker under the Spree River in Berlin. So much fun. He still has the voice!
  11:44pm katharsis:

Enjoying show. Thank you.
  11:45pm ?:

prayers UP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Heavy Chevy:

what he sed^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

ngh i've known just a few turkish people and they all have names that seem somewhat more exotic to me. (like Demit, Homdee(sp?), Gulin, and at least 3 others that i should remember but cannot now, that are more elaborate but i can't or wont go to my facadebook account to see their names)
Avatar 11:52pm northguineahills:

Missed about 2 hours of the show, and almost all of the tracks are already pre-clickied.
Avatar 11:54pm northguineahills:

I have a lot of Turkish friends in NYC, mostly artists and musicians. They've all been in the US since college for a good reason *cough* *Erdogan*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm coelacanth:

i have to return to this one. i was dealing with some shit for almost the first 1/2 of it.
Avatar 11:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Rob and Daniel!
Avatar 11:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Thank you, Rob. You are a forensic investigator of the highest order.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm coelacanth:

most of the turks i've known were here for college just before ertogan, and they generally claimed that the us was very oppressive compared to turkey. only one comes back still, annually (though, now?) and one lives here.
  11:59pm P-90:

Brilliant show. Thanks, Daniel and Special Guest Rob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am coelacanth:

wow it's over. Thanks Daniel & Thanks Rob!
tchau y'all
Avatar 12:01am Franco Twinkie:
