Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Fox:

Good eeeeeevening pretty radio people.
Avatar 9:25pm JakeGould:

Wait for the dial-tone, moron!
  9:25pm Robert Tables:

Hello and thank you for the handy information!
Avatar 9:26pm JakeGould:

If you don’t have manners on the telephone, who wants to talk to you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

What about the advice to leave it ring if you don't recognize the caller ID?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Fox:

My Gramma had a dial phone with a party line when I was growing up. I was taught to let the phone ring at least 8 rings before giving up, because that was roughly how long it took for an old person to get to the telephone table.
  9:28pm spodiodi:

Bobby Drop Tables, is that you?
Avatar 9:28pm JakeGould:

What if you get a call and it says you won a cruise ship cruise? Just give them your social security and credit card number immediately while saying “Yes!” constantly, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm chresti:

I like to give my telephone a warm handshake
  9:29pm Robert Tables:

Been a while, but yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm coelacanth∅:

Hello? ...Hello?

  9:29pm spodiodi:

Avatar 9:30pm northguineahills:

Hoy, hoy?
  9:30pm Robert Tables:

And now I'll have to find a pic of a telephone table to add to my profile.
Avatar 9:30pm JakeGould:

“Hello? Yes, I would like you to take all my money!”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm chresti:

a cruise to Florida!
Avatar 9:31pm northguineahills:

a cruise to Florida is a scam! most of here is uninhabitable by civilized folk (I got lucky).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Of course, there's also the ploy where you say you are busy with something and will call the party back. Then you never call back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm chresti:

but a free luxury cruise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm coelacanth∅:

Fox we were told let it ring 10 times, which supposedly = 1 minute. old people, people who might be cooking or in the bathroom, etc
Avatar 9:34pm JakeGould:

If the cruise is a scam, how come there are real cruise ship horns coming through my phone?
Avatar 9:34pm northguineahills:

I was told 7 times as a kid.

Ok, finished work, I don't have to come in during the weekend. Hear ya at home! Ciao-sers!
Avatar 9:35pm JakeGould:

@kenFromHydePark: At multiple jobs this is what I did to get rid of telemarketing calls, “Hey, let me put you on hold for a second!” they would say “Okay!” and I would just hang up and I never heard from them again. Worked 100% of the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm coelacanth∅:

we were told to answer the phone "hello; *Coelacanth*residence. Who may i ask is calling?"
we generally didn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm coelacanth∅:

on the rare occasion a telemarketer would call my father would ask for their home phone# so he can call them back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Ken From Hyde Park:

One salesman called my dad to sell a workbench or some kind of shop tool. Dad asked all kinds of questions and kept the guy on the line for like half an hour, and then said he wasn't interested. The salesman swore at him and slammed the phone down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Fox:

My brain thanks you for this, Daniel. This is exactly the de-stressing my head needs. It's like counteracting a sound wave with an equal and opposite sound wave equalling silence. The chaos calms my frenzied mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Daniel Blumin:

Welcome onboard, everyone! Lots of things coming at ya! Against doctor's orders, I'm revisiting one of my first college radio shows! Mental Notes was a live broadcast that simultaneously mixed all of the tape decks, turntables, and cd players in the studio. As a concession to creeping modernity, for this evening's program, a computer or two shall be incorporated into the mix!
Avatar 9:45pm TDK60:

I was made to feel guilty a few times, for calling wrong #s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm coelacanth∅:

i knew people who'd won the cruise and took it. they said it was fun. hotel was included and some not completely terrible meals. the main catch was that they had to spend 2 days looking at real estate.
i won it and spent a long time on the phone "qualifying". i was doing fine for i don't know 25 minutes? when she said "you and your wife..." i wasn't married and was instantly disqualified.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Fox:

I am enjoying it, Daniel. It's got great flow.
  9:47pm chresti:

That sounds like good phone manner on your dad’s part,KFHP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Ken From Hyde Park:

On at least two occasions, I dialed 210-209-9368 while trying to reach Shut Up, Weirdo. Some guy in Maryland thinks I'm trolling or stalking him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm coelacanth∅:

everybody call that number right now!
Avatar 9:50pm TDK60:

..thanks for the explanation DJ DB. It's a wonderful Mix.

Avatar 10:01pm northguineahills:

The last time I got a cruise pitch, the tried to wow me w/ a week free in Orlando. I'm there once a month, and have bros. there, how exotic! They persisted, so I just told them I made no money the year before and they abruptly hung up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Uncle Michael:

There is something funny in the wunderschnapps tonight.
Avatar 10:05pm northguineahills:

I dodged a bullet, we just got gale force winds and rain. The county west of us got some significant damage. Irma slammed me here last year, that was enough. Thanks for asking!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm coelacanth∅:

Franco the truth is i haven't celebrated in that way today at all. (or several days) in fact i doubt there's even any cough suppressant left in my system. just madras lentils and rice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm coelacanth∅:

mmm chocolate ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Scraps:

I’m going to remember and use this archive, this fifteen minutes or so, and the next time my roommates next door are geting their spanking games going, I’ll turn this up as a response.
Avatar 11:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Filberts and peaches over here, and a kraut dog earlier on Crenshaw Blvd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm coelacanth∅:

Scraps there's a bizarre recording of spanking &/or whipping with disturbing male groans of pleasure that Ken has played a zillion times or so. (it's probably bullshit of course but it's still disturbing...and funny, for a moment) you could find that archive and turn it up really loud next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm coelacanth∅:

(...i think it'd be hilarious)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm coelacanth∅:

uh oh.
did we lose Daniel?
  11:21pm chresti:

More bloomin sense nonsense please!
Avatar 11:21pm Franco Twinkie:

Not here. And we have lightning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Scraps:

coelacanthØ, ahhhh, thank you, I’ll look for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm coelacanth∅:

i wish i could tell you what it's called,Scraps. when he first discovered it he played it throughout much of several shows. i don't even trust my memory as to how many years ago it was.
...you could ask him of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Daniel Blumin:

Avatar 11:39pm northguineahills:

@Jake: Music never was, and always here, so it's the bed, of one's ear.....
  11:40pm chresti:

Scraps you could record THEM and play it back

Avatar 11:45pm JakeGould:

When does the music start?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm Scraps:

When the poetry ends.
  11:47pm chresti:

I’m feeling a bit giddy because it just rained for a few minutes, for the first time in months!
Avatar 11:47pm Franco Twinkie:

Jake. Go in the kitchen and butter some toast, and I swear, when you come back it will be music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Bryce:

this has been a velvet delirium, apparitional daniel
Avatar 11:48pm TDK60:

this has been interesting...I'll try to note it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm coelacanth∅:

...actually not always. i wish i had my recorder booted up when the guy flipped in the driveway outside my window. i forget exactly but i think it was "i've had enough" and variations on that with "fucking" inserted variously that he repeated for over 5 minutes - maybe 40-50X while his wife was just "i know i know..."
  11:51pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

chresti i wish i could send rain over. there's mold everywhere and unhealthy trees.
  11:52pm chresti:

Avatar 11:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, That was me a couple of days ago when my sister demanded that I read a contract RIGHT NOW and Chresti wouldn't let up with the you closed the window, why did you close the window? I just flipped and had to go for my second walk of the day in the park. I'm borderline psychotic, you know.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am coelacanth∅:

Brilliant music Daniel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44am Daniel Blumin:

Thank you to Michael Bloom fer entrusting the show to me back in the day! And thank yous to all present and archiving freeform mentalists fer mentalizing with me!!! The original show on WMFO was 90 mins so a three-hour tour was a blast! Playlists weren't an issue back in the olden pre-interwebs daze, but as valiant an effort as it was it can hardly be called accu! I'll attempt to add details soon! And who knows? Maybe it won't take a quarter century to revisit the revisitation! See you next week for Singles Going Steady with the Tale of the 10"!!!
