An unusual early start. Bodes well.

Hello Erwin and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm rrg:

It's Paul Simon Wednesday!
Avatar 3:05pm rbx:

Heya Irwin and co :)
  3:06pm Laura L:

What's Paul Simon Wednesday, rrg?
Avatar 3:06pm Wild Neil:

PEACE All. Why is that building all curvy??
  3:07pm Dean:

Like downtown L.A.'s Disney Hall, it must have been designed by Frank Gehry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm rrg:

Hi, LL. "Paul Simon Wednesday" is something that Irwin once described as "the three scariest words I've ever heard".

Or words to that effect. I'm paraphrasing. It was so long ago. I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.
Avatar 3:10pm Wild Neil:

Frank Gehry...a starchitecht....I dropped out of Cooper Union's school of architecture and there are some of the smartest people I have ever met there in my life...but my GOD some of the unusual justifications for odd designs really warped my mind, in some cases permanently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm rrg:

All right, all right. I'll get this Bran Flakes album. I'm persuaded.
  3:13pm Dean:

I *so* wanted to attend Cooper Union's architecture program! Got into another program, but cold feet (I can't draw for beans) and post-adolescent wisdom gave me second thoughts. Walked away from it. I enjoy Gehry's early career work. Can't stand the slithery titanium crap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Michael 98145:

flakey : branflakes.bandcamp.com...
  3:14pm Laura L:

@rrg, living in reverse time is the best. Yeah, get the Bran Flakes new one--it is helpful!
Avatar 3:16pm Wild Neil:

@Dean. I learned so much more in the sculpture shop working with my hands....and the freehand drawing class. You really didn't miss too much. Really. What do you do now?
Avatar 3:17pm Wild Neil:

Irwin, you are my musical hero.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm rrg:

Planning ahead, it would seem.
  3:18pm Dean:

@Wild Neil: Librarian (with a dash of lawyer). Really, I think I wanted to study architectural history, high Gothic cathedrals, Alberti, and all that. Did well in an architectural drafting class (we're talking '80s), even got a job offer...which I timorously declined. But I live across the street from an architect, so there's that!
Avatar 3:21pm βrian:

I wonder how Charlie Lewis is coming along in his library-related enterprise?
  3:28pm Laura L:

This just in from a relative in the Lone Star State: Funnel Cake Bacon Queso Burger... https://bigtex.com/food/choiceawards/
3:30pm Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

So according to that "scatter-plot of the musical genre-space", college marching bands occupy the space between j-ambient, contemporary jazz, and vintage Swedish pop. everynoise.com...
3:32pm Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

Laura - is it better than deep-fried chicken noodle soup on a stick?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 3:38pm Will from Seattle:

thanks for the link, that's amazing
  3:39pm Laura L:

@ Cliff, I think we're just going to have to trust the judges to have got it right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Michael 98145:

' stomp and whittle ' ??
Avatar 3:41pm Hoboken Jack:

Enjoying this doubleVee. A touch of Bright Eyes in the vocals.
  3:43pm Pez:

Whats the background music now?
Avatar 3:44pm βrian:

Terry Riley, maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Mick:

The Clientele playing the Bell House Nov. 5
  3:47pm Dean:

I myself have figuratively written dozens of books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm rrg:

Whew, that was close!
Avatar 3:48pm βrian:

I've figuratively published hundreds of them, myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm JtotheK:

@Dean - returning (again) to our Triple IPA conversation -- I looked last weekend at area grocery store, found nothing, decided on local 'session' pale ale instead.
  3:49pm Dean:

I agonize over details more than you, @βrian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Irwin:

No sense pointing out technical difficulties anymore. Way of life at WFMU.
Avatar 3:51pm βrian:

It's having a friend who stutters. You don't even notice after a while.
  3:51pm Dean:

@JtotheK: I thought of you just last night when I had a Dust Bowl Therapist, bottled in mid-August. Was quite good, actually. Not a triple, but I can recommend Melvin's 2 x 4: https://melvinbrewing.com/beers/2x4-dipa/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Irwin:

OK, Jack. Now gotta check out Bright Eyes.
Avatar 3:52pm βrian:

@Dean: no doubt. We punt on the whole editorial process, even.
Avatar 3:53pm βrian:

Off to the meeting grinder. Damn.
  3:56pm Dean:

You read that right, @JtotheK. 2 x 4 is ABV 10%!
Avatar 3:58pm glenn:

i'm kinda glad frank gehry left toronto. having one of his designs here is more than enough. and don't get me started on daniel libeskind, that pretentious wanker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm JtotheK:

yeah, some of those IPA's can get up there. hence, i only have them on occasion. and not on weeknights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm JtotheK:

a friend of mine recommended this from 3 Floyds Brewing: "FLOY DIVISION III 7.5% ABV 85 IBU -- The third in the experimental single hop Floy Division series. The hop character of this IPA imparts notes of tropical fruit, honeydew melon, cedar, and herbs."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm JtotheK:

I've had other beers from 3 Floyds, very much enjoy Alpha King. area bar that I would spin soul 45s at once in a while had it on tap - tasty!
  4:03pm Dean:

I'll be on the lookout for 3 Floyd's!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm chris:

thanks for the LC, IC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm rrg:

Uncle Floyd. Floyd the barber. Floyd Cramer.
  4:05pm Pez:

@brian thanks a lot mate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm rrg:

THIS old thing.
  4:07pm Dean:

Have not been aware of Libeskind, but at a glance, yeah, he's a PW. P.U. I pretty much loathe "signature" architecture, with exceptions.

Not Pink Floyd?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Irwin:

God I love this song. Utterly captivating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm joe mulligan:

Irwin I love your penchant for catchy pop tunes. kind of like Pseu and her things with a hook
Avatar 4:09pm Hoboken Jack:

And Electric Guest sounds a little like Jacko.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Tommy in Neversink:

I liked that song , I give it an 8
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Ike:

EG was definitely not bad. I'm not quite ready to clicky-star it, though. Yet.
Avatar 4:12pm glenn:

clicky star in haste, repent in leisure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Tommy in Neversink:

I pledged to to give 20$ a month during Ken's show today....in addition to my marathon donations
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm JtotheK:

Re: Floyd Cramer -- the song "Let's Go" is a solid, upbeat instrumental track...it's the flip of chattanooga choo choo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm coelacanth∅:

yes, just in time!
  4:16pm bnowb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm joe:

This is actually the track I thought you had started playing earlier
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Irwin:

  4:18pm Dean:

Damn, can't listen.

The Waybacks do a *killer* version of Floyd Cramer's "Last Date." Look it up.
  4:18pm Nick K (Killer):

great track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm coelacanth∅:

this would've been a good soundtrack to my c.3 hours trying to get a cell phone today...although it was going on inside anyway.

There are not enough good songs about Horatio Alger.
Trust Irwin to find one!
  4:26pm combokid:

Once again Irwin your show amazes and dazzles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Carmichael:

Heya Irwin and various persons.
  4:32pm Johnnie:

Jeebus! First time, long time Irwin. My cover band when I was a teenager played Larks'n Aspic, Part Two often. Weirdly the girls in the audience stopped focusing on us and turned away. I have a casette, if there is a Dog, I will find it and send.
  4:46pm Mike tp:

Max !! I love how those great drummers played their bass drum with those dress shoes on!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Passaic River Blues:

Well, that was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Ike:

@Tommy in Neversink@4:13, you're a goddamn American hero. Praise be unto the above-and-beyond pledgers, for they shall inherit the whirlwind full of CDs... uh... or something.

Sae Hashimoto: vibes
Tyshawn Sorey: drums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi ho, Irwin. John Zorn is pretty cool. Are you taking the opportunity to get some vacuuming done while this long track plays?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm chris:

dang. this Zorn track is purty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Irwin:

Ken: Just finished, now getting a pedicure.
Avatar 5:19pm glenn:

shellac or gel?
  5:19pm Dean:

The Exterminated Hangnail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Mick:

Another amazing show Irwin. Although I guess I miss hearing about the Gone with the Wind soundtrack finally being available on Warner Brothers, your super-convincing endorsement of live karaoke was even better. Plus, you know, the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm rrg:

MGM Records, Mick. Sheesh.
  5:23pm WillCrete:

Nice tune, this "strange bird" is. Sounds like a tune that could have been around for decades....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Mick:

Ack! Of course, rrg. What was I thinking?!
  5:25pm jan:

Great show today! Grouches and grandpas play the music I enjoy.
  5:27pm zopa:

  5:34pm pp:

Garden Wall, great song, kind of Velaines-like
  5:42pm alison porchnik:

It's been too long, Tay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Passaic River Blues:

Zonday is retaking the internet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Irwin:

This track is 85% cacao.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm rrg:

This is very goofy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm chris:

nice. dark chocolate rain is the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm rrg:

Right, Chris. And we're not backing down from that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Asheville Jon:

will we ever hear IceJJFish on wfmu???

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Better chocolate rain than that terrible oobleck from the Dr. Seuss story.
  5:46pm cat:

irwin is this your first 3 hour freeform music show in a while?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Nick the Bard:

Now get some Eduard Khil on
5:48pm Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

I had almost managed to forget this commercial. Thanks so much Irwin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Eduard Khil was a month ago already. www.google.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm rrg:

"Bartholomew and the Oobleck" is indeed a very dark story. Not really Seuss-like. But then neither is "Dr. T".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Michael 98145:

thanks again, Irwin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Irwin:

Pledge! Just $25 bucks, whatever. $how your $upport.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm rrg:

Well, another three hours well-spent. I don't need them back. Thanks for all your volunteer labor, Irwin.
