Has RATTY always been the mascot?
Avatar 12:04am Bill Mac:

Hey AD! Ratty's been the mascot for a few years now. I think we started it during the last marathon that I had a regular show, maybe two years ago.

I love that live version of “Lost Someone.”
Avatar 1:10am Bill Mac:

I don't generally like live albums, but the man gets people involved doesn't he?
  1:13am rw:

My favorite Slapp Happy is the one with Henry Cow. Desperate Straights. SO good.

I had a period in my life when I ONLY liked live albums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am Alejandroool:

I may enjoy this pulled back Onyeabor moreso - the other stuff is great for the dancefloor but this is nice
Avatar 1:15am Bill Mac:

@rw - I think I did too! Very sloppy affairs for the most part (considering the bands I liked during that time it's no wonder) but a lot of energy.
  1:15am KP:

This Shame is captivating
Avatar 1:15am Bill Mac:

@AD I was drawn by the hook...
  1:19am JakeGould:

The first James Brown live at the Apollo, The Who "Live at Leeds," Cheap Trick "Live at Budokan" an "Frampton Comes Alive." All top shelf.
  1:28am rw:

Nice. After Dinner. I feel like I may have been responsible for influencing that pick with the Henry Cow talk. It's not showing on the playlist though.
Avatar 1:31am Bill Mac:

My brother loved Live @ Budokan. Seemed he had it in the cassette played the whole summer it came out
Avatar 1:34am coelacanth:

i used to generally dislike live albums, w notable exceptions in "live at leeds" and "grand funk live album" (by far gfr's best album)...but now i think there are many good ones.
-for one thing, the majority of the best free-jazz performances are performed "live",in one take.
...but also lots of material from the "renaissance" has been released years after the performance; such as Jimi Hendrix,Fleetwood Mac (PG's),Free......
Avatar 1:37am Brian in UK:

Mornin' Bill and sensation seekers.

Tono Bungay was a book by H G Wells?
Avatar 1:38am Bill Mac:

Eh, you're always saying things like that my boy... Happy Friday
Avatar 1:39am Brian in UK:

I went to see an exhibition of MC Escher's work last week. Mott used one of his amazing drawings for their first cover. Goodbye Dale.
Avatar 1:39am Bill Mac:

I'll have to to review GFR Live. That was when they were cool...
Avatar 1:40am Bill Mac:

Amen Brian... hardly mentioned over here....
  1:40am KP:

My real claim to fame, Bill, is that I saw
Mott the Hoople as an opening act on what had to
be their first US tour.
Avatar 1:41am Bill Mac:

I remember you saying you saw them... Do you remember who they opened for?
  1:43am snake:

Bill, I saw Mott the Hoople 11/8/75 in Dallas Tx they opened for Kiss....I left after 2 Kiss songs...But MTH was wondefull!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am osvi:

That's nice. Always nice to hear ya, Bill Mac. Keep them coming.
Avatar 1:44am Bill Mac:

Right on Osvi!
Avatar 1:45am Brian in UK:

  1:45am KP:

Yes, Traffic. They made every opening act look good
Avatar 1:45am Bill Mac:

Hey Snake, was it Mott the Hoople at that point or the post Ian Hunter Mott? I like them too although people wrote them off after Hunter went solo
Avatar 1:45am Brian in UK:

@KP Heaven is in your mind.
Avatar 1:45am coelacanth:

grand funk was alright then...but that album especially because it was just the trio with no overdubs. very basic and raw.
"mean mistreater" and "inside looking out" (animals') are excellent tracks.
- Thanks for playing Mott...
  1:47am KP:

And did you know, Bill, that "Mott the Hoople" is a book, a novel. I saw it in library around the time they arrived on these welcoming shores
Avatar 1:47am Bill Mac:

@CC Had to this week. Everybodys celebrating Glenn frey... no offense mind you but Mott was my band back then
Avatar 1:47am Bill Mac:

@KP I wonder what kind of a read that is...
Avatar 1:49am coelacanth:

there's a handful -only- of eagles songs that i actually like. no disrespect to the man but not my cuppa.
Avatar 1:49am coelacanth:

the first Mott album is 100% amazing, too.
Avatar 1:51am Bill Mac:

@CC I liked the first album or two, but they we're on the radio 24/7 during that period when FM radio was pretty low
Avatar 1:51am Bill Mac:

My first and favorite Mott purchase was Brain Capers. The sound of a band falling apart.
Avatar 1:53am Brian in UK:

I will not have a good word said against The Eagles.
Avatar 1:55am Brian in UK:

This is a pain, off to the grind. Will check the archives like last time, Bill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am ausmanx:

Evening all from stormy Sydney. Afraid I value The Eagles about as much as I value Bowie so all this mourning is leaving me cold. Buffin seems more worthwhile to me (though Alan Rickman was the big loss... and maybe Lemmy)...
Avatar 1:56am Bill Mac:

Good to hear ya man, have a good weekend!
  1:56am KP:

I think it's a tongue in cheek study of a man who's sort of a braggart. Hoople means that, I suppose
Avatar 1:58am Brian in UK:

Hey ausmanx, great to see you. Byeee. We beat the South Africans, things are looking up. Maybe....
Avatar 1:58am coelacanth:

i shamefully admit i only knew the first one,"mott"&"all the young dudes" for decades. i missed out on those 3 "pre-dudes" albums 'till a couple of years ago.
Avatar 2:00am coelacanth:

(i still don't own them or know them well.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am ausmanx:

Mr Hitchcock is living around the corner from me these days, now that he's half Australian. nice chap to run into at the post office...
Avatar 2:01am Bill Mac:

Ausmanx Story of the day!
Avatar 2:01am coelacanth:

he seems like he'd be fun to talk with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am ausmanx:

maybe a bit off robin's money has gone on the acrimonious divorce proceedings! but he did a gig at my house last january, wonderful 90 minutes for about 100 people. he does stuff like that, just loves to play...
Avatar 2:10am coelacanth:

however much i might've wanted to see mott the hoople i wouldn't have paid for a ticket if some of the money would go to kiss!
Avatar 2:11am Bill Mac:

Definitely more talented that the aforementioned Mr Rew
  2:11am snake:

Bill I think Ian Hunter was still in the band....they were playing mostly All the Young Dudes lp .After the Mott set I just couldn't tolerate Kiss and had to split...
Avatar 2:13am Bill Mac:

Kiss did break big almost as soon as they formed. I didn't realized they started that early on.
  2:15am snake:

Hey coelacanth I'm with you....it was a trick bill...Mott the Hoople with a special surprise guest. Hell that was the band that made me switch to jazz!!!
Avatar 2:16am coelacanth:

marketing genius! if you claim you're huge and that you sell more albums than the beatles and that you're punk rock(Hahjahahaha!) people will believe you and follow the other sheep; and you then become nearly as big as you pretended to be!
Avatar 2:17am coelacanth:

so snake, Mott was headlining?
Avatar 2:18am coelacanth:

that makes me feel a little better!
  2:24am snake:

My ticket stub does say Kiss but the original ad I saw advertised Mott w/ special guest and when we got to Texas Hall the tickets read Kiss....Mott opened I'd never heard of Kiss
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am Alejandroool:

ah oui oui!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28am Alejandroool:

death, decay & deceased
Avatar 2:28am Bill Mac:

Ah yes ze Tiger-lee-lees!
Avatar 2:28am coelacanth:

what a sneaky thing, snake! i'd have left too. i knew people who were obsessed with kiss and it literally baffled me! i truly could not understand how they couldn't tell how bad it sucked!
-Cool that you saw MTH though...'slight envy here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am ifny:

This is simply a fantastic show. Happy me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am ausmanx:

this Fripp record is the greatest thing Daryl Hall ever did!
Avatar 2:30am Bill Mac:

@ifny Happy me too!
Avatar 2:31am coelacanth:

ha! ausmanx is this him on this track too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am ausmanx:

Fripp came out to Australia when it was first released, and said he'd never come out here again cos the record had only sold 69 copies. i think he kept his word, sadly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am ausmanx:

yep, this is Daryl, cc. the solo album Hall did with Fripp (which his record label refused to release for a while) is pretty good too
  2:32am snake:

Yeah and I can't say enough how amazing Mott's sound was ...and Kiss...was just a joke ...but what amazed me the audience reacted more to Kiss...I knew it was the end of classic euro rock!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am ifny:

I agreed to move in with someone on the condition that they take down the ginormous poster of KISS looming what would be our bed. It was that awful poster of KISS in full makeup with women in full makeup and leather bikinis grovelling at their feet in chains. Owait that's most of their posters. I've never understood the appeal either, music or otherwise.
Avatar 2:32am Bill Mac:

@ausmanx I remember when that song came out. Awesome
Avatar 2:32am coelacanth:

i Love Fripp, but he's a bit of a prima donna!
Avatar 2:34am Bill Mac:

I was just talking to DJ Stan about Fripp before the show. You can blame him for that selection. He doesn't care much for Fripp the man...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34am ausmanx:

know what you mean, cc, but he does it in a very unique way! him reforming King Crimson is one of the few reformations that might be worth seeing... really is a great show, Bill !
  2:35am rw:

I agree with everything that's been stated on this comments section tonight.
Avatar 2:36am coelacanth:

the original album lists people who contributed, but not what they did or on what tracks. i always wondered, not being that familiar with Daryl Hall's voice...but i knew it was him on "north star".
Avatar 2:37am Bill Mac:

I'll need to check out the Hall solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am ausmanx:

cc, Fripp did a three hour interview with Australian radio at the time, one of the most completely fascinating interviews (music) i've ever heard... can send it along maybe? i still have a copy! he goes through Exposure track by track, and rambles over a thousand other things (including his leaking roof)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am ausmanx:

and Sacred Songa is good, Bill... some dreck, but some really good things
Avatar 2:45am coelacanth:

yes,me too on the Hall solo album.
...and i do have immense respect for Fripp for his musical contributions to this world; but i've heard some stories....and i don't always love his playing. sometimes it seems too calculated for my taste.
but KC's first 7 albums are still and always played in my home; as are 3 of his solo albums and several of his collaborations.
- he's still on a pedestal!
Avatar 2:47am coelacanth:

ausmanx i'd like to hear that! i'm very into interviews.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49am Alejandroool:

3am party music
