  12:25am P-90:

Aloha, Bill M! Still feeling all fizzy inside after Dave's Gene Vincent retrospective (and a couple of small-batch bourbons on the rocks). I'm sure you'll keep the fizziness flowing, welcome home. Again.
Avatar 12:27am Bill Mac:

Avatar 12:43am coelacanth:

nelson riddle orchestra , right? ('sounds a little different)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am Stanley:

Bill!! Great to hear ya on the waves. Very warm greets from India. I heard you were on, so I've braved my way past endless rickshaw wallahs, street vendors, roadside barbers, ramshackle kitchens, cows, goats and mangey dogs, holy men, monks and assorted humanity to grab a coffee, WiFi and some Zero Hour. What a wonderful world.
Avatar 12:47am Bill Mac:

@CC I grabbed a few addition Ultra Lounge CDs and I ended up treading on FXOs toes... back to the comfort zones I promise
Avatar 12:51am Bill Mac:

@Stanley!! India and you still took the time hang out! Excelsior!!! Hope I'm providing a complementary soundtrack to your moment
Avatar 12:53am coelacanth:

haha! it's kind of weird actually...this afternoon Diane played Sue P's bed music- as bed music. (& then more of it)
i think it's fairly uncommon.
Avatar 12:55am coelacanth:

ah, for a sec i thought this was Howie Gelb (giant sand)...i don't know what he's up to these days.
Avatar 1:00am Bill Mac:

Looks like he's currently touring Europe as a solo act as well as GS

Hey Bill! WFMU is good music to do tech work by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am Stanley:

@Bill - I've got a spare morning so I'm relaxing in my favourite way. Loved AHB back in the day, remember seeing him and we dressed up in schoolgirl uniforms. Nothing weird about that at an AHB gig.
Avatar 1:07am Bill Mac:

Hey hey Jake! So long as it's not too distracting
Avatar 1:07am Jay/London:

good morning Bill .. good to catch you before I go to work

Avatar 1:12am Brian in UK:

Prepare to accept boarders you scoundrel.

What ho, Stanley. Out in out in out in India.
Avatar 1:13am JakeGould:

Tom Waits on the brain. Watched “Rumble Fish” and “The Outsiders” and he’s in both in small roles being just some guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am Stanley:

Its Barnacle Brian! Lash that dog to the yardarm
Avatar 1:14am coelacanth:

Avatar 1:14am Jay/London:

Avatar 1:14am Bill Mac:

Hey you guys if you're up real early next week you can catch Andy from Berlin on Evan Funk Davies show talking about the Twisted Sister movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am ausmanx:

and good evening all, have just arrived at work at 5 p.m. here...
Avatar 1:15am Bill Mac:

Barnacle Brian indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am Alejandroool:

haha a bit of flack, sure. I played along a bit to Primus in HS learning bass. Jake - I haven't seen Rumble Fish I don't think... this song (what's he building) always reminds me of a neighbour's house/backyard near us as a kid, the backyard was a complete, unattended to, overgrown mess...
Avatar 1:16am Bill Mac:

Welcome home Ausmanx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am mauri:

good morning.
Avatar 1:16am Jay/London:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Stanley:

Jay, l like your style. I'm usually up at 8.30, leave the flat at 8.50 and at the desk, barely awake, at nine.
Avatar 1:20am Bill Mac:

Yo Mauri!!!
Avatar 1:20am Bill Mac:

I think Andy and me might hang out in the kitchen after his interview.
Avatar 1:20am coelacanth:

greetings ausmanx!

Aleja, i cannot imagine the gossip and rumours about my father's house and yard. it's beyond what most middle-class suburbanites can imagine.
Avatar 1:21am coelacanth:

Great PT song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am Alejandroool:

hah cc - sounds great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Andrew Waterloo:

In my parts, yards with mini scrap piles were much more the norm.
Avatar 1:22am Jay/London:

Stanley thats not the way to do it ha ha .....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am ausmanx:

filthy hot weather all week (and too much aircon here at work) but at least we're hammering the Kiwis in the cricket. shouldn't the baseball season be starting soon?
  1:23am KP:

My pals the Pretty Things!
Avatar 1:24am coelacanth:

same for me Andrew...even yards full of junk are fairly common.
- not where my fathers lives though.
Avatar 1:24am Bill Mac:

@KP Dig it KP!!
Avatar 1:24am Bill Mac:

@Ausmanx Pitchers and catchers in Florida late next week!
Avatar 1:26am coelacanth:

KP, WHICH Pretty Things?!
with all their personnel changes they were entirely different bands with each incarnation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am ausmanx:

you can watch the cricket till then, Bill! though it looks like this first game will only last three days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am Stanley:

Good grief, its midday already. Nice one Bill, that's me, I've got to join the mad dogs and other Englishmen out there. See ya Bill, Brian, Jay and friends around the world. (Exits coffee house, narrowly missing open sewer and he's away)
Avatar 1:28am coelacanth:

....although style-wise they didn't vary as much as some groups enduring less personnel change.
Avatar 1:28am Bill Mac:

Later Stanley! Give my love to the Gandhis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Andrew Waterloo:

@coelacanth yah, I surprised when I moved here and learned they fined people having a car in the driveway that wasn't registered to drive.
Avatar 1:29am coelacanth:

ciao Stanley
Avatar 1:29am Bill Mac:

.... and watch your step!
Avatar 1:33am coelacanth:

Andrew yeah, i had a parts car for 3-4 years in my "town". i got rid of the car, moved to the "village" (within the town) and ended up with another parts car ...and a fine, after a year or so.
Avatar 1:33am Brian in UK:

Who was that masked man I'd like to shake his hand. Goodbye Stanley.

Hello ausmanx, Jay & mauri.

Hard to write whilst performing ablutions.

  1:46am KP:

Hello from NYC to Brian in Uk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am ausmanx:

this Gof4 sounds as good as when it first emerged
Avatar 2:02am Bill Mac:

I was thinking that myself
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am Alejandroool:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am Alejandroool:

nice dry recordings.. similar production sound to Chairs Missing
Avatar 2:09am coelacanth:

what a revelation when that first go4 album came out. everything had been reverby; at least a little. some things were drenched in it.
- and then that!
...blew my little mind!
Avatar 2:12am Bill Mac:

Killing Jokes first one too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am Alejandroool:

Killing Joke was supposed to play here tonight, but had to cancel awhile back..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am ausmanx:

i've always been inclined to trace that sound back to Spiral Scratch
Avatar 2:18am Jay/London:

have to get ready for work soon you seem to be omn to motown bill
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am mauri:

morning is a good time for good change of plans. instead of dragging a guitar to a studio and photograph it, I will shoot shoes.
Avatar 2:20am Bill Mac:

@Jay I got a couple more moves before I get off here. Good to hear you.
Avatar 2:21am Bill Mac:

@Mauri Decisions, decisions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am mauri:

how to get life done with minimum of hassle in sleet
  2:24am KP:

Man I loved Gang of Four and other such bands WNYU used to play in the for me, pre Fmu days
Avatar 2:25am coelacanth:

i didn't hear KJ 'till a few years later. ..but that late '70s period was just one revelation after another.
- when "entertainment" came i was turned onto it when a friend from school came over with it, and "setting sons", and they both blew me away! (even though i was already heavily into several "punk" bands)
Avatar 2:28am coelacanth:

(actually it was probably Pat Duncan's show c. 1982? where i heard "the wait" and looked into killing joke.)
Avatar 2:28am Bill Mac:

and you could go to a club and actually see the bands.
Avatar 2:31am coelacanth:

i saw sooo many bands in the late 70s-early 80s...many of them before they got famous.
Avatar 2:31am Jeff:

I don't know this Cat Stevens. Looks like it's from the album I never got around to buying.
Avatar 2:31am Jay/London:

gota go bill its been a gas !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am ausmanx:

everyone showing their age!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Alejandroool:

very fortunate cc! take 'er easy Jay...
Avatar 2:35am coelacanth:

...in the late 70s, when i was only in my 60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am ausmanx:

one of the perks of being in a remote colonial outpost is that even when bands became big in the UK or US, they would still come over here and play pubs and bars; Clash, Fall, Violent Femmes, even REM at the Trade Union Club...
Avatar 2:40am coelacanth:

that's Lucky, ausmanx!
i've often thought that some people/groups would do that in my town if they only knew that they'd get a Great reception without getting mauled.
(as long as they didn't announce it more than a few hours ahead)
Avatar 2:42am coelacanth:

...it's just the way here. as long as it was just locals, the band would be treated enthusiastically but respectfully.
Avatar 2:43am JakeGould:

@ausmanx: Sounds very cool! Not 100% my scene but in the 1980s there was this metal record store in Brooklyn that would have in-store appearances with Iron Maiden and such and utterly nobody would show up except some deep Brooklyn metalheads. They would play to crowds at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan but then decompress by heading out to the boonies in Brooklyn.
Avatar 2:45am Bill Mac:

I kinda recall Pantera having an in-store at tower records down my way back in the 90s... kinda...
Avatar 2:47am coelacanth:

rhino records here used to be in a much bigger store up the street. there were many who played there, but i only remember yo la tengo.
Avatar 2:49am coelacanth:

okay Bill, i've got to sleep!
Thank you! see ya soon.
ciao everyone.
Avatar 2:50am Bill Mac:

Cool CC, pleasant dreams... see you soonish..
Avatar 2:50am coelacanth:

(glad i'm heading out with Patti.)
Avatar 2:55am Bill Mac:

Hey all, thanks for the time! Stay warm or cool depending on where you might be.... later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am Alejandroool:

nite nite all, thx
  2:58am P-90:

Thanks as always, Bill. Get home safe and come back soon...
  9:10am Lee Van Cleef's Mum:

You leave my boy alone.
Avatar 9:22am Brian in UK:

Hello KP (belatedly)

GO4 and those of a similar ilk were called Post-Punk for some reason. Everything must have a category/genre.

The first LP that I paid for with my paper round money was Cat Stevens 'Matthew & Son'. Great pop. March '67. I then mistakenly bought and rapidly sold Sgt Pepper.
