Avatar 3:05pm Polyus:

How many people thought today's show would begin with the Hoof & Mouth rendition of Mr. Giant Man?
Avatar 3:05pm Sem Chumbo:

Mr. Giant Man never fails to make me laugh.
  3:06pm Listener Robert:

I was a little disappointed at Hoof & Mouth for their not acting it out better. There should've been a particular dancer to be pointed to to go w the line, "YOU can dance in double time."

Some musicians from the Seattle scene one might not expect worked at MUZAK (not necessarily as musicians). Such as Mark Arm of Mudhoney.

Touch Me I'm Sick would sound great in a grocery store
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Guido from Cologne:

Well anyway, they made it to the Space Needle, cannot say about the elevator there.
Avatar 4:06pm Polyus:

Last time I was in NYC, I stayed in the vicinity of Earwax - have to admit, it's a very convenient area to base yourself in if you're just visiting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Guido from Cologne:

Carol Kaye was a bit upset about the Title "Wrecking Crew", saying they were never called like this. If there was a moniker, it was "The Clique".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Uncle Michael:

It was the music clearances that took so damned long.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm steve:

four flies on gray velvet? what!? never even heard of that Argento film.
  4:18pm rw:

I have a friend who is something of a Muzak connoisseur. It's been a while but I think I remember him telling me that the version made for offices is sequenced to coincide with the ups and downs of a typical work day. Hence the term, "Stimulus Progression".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Guido from Cologne:

by very chance I own Stimulus Progression Vol. One (www.discogs.com...). The LP seems to be more of a demo about the services they do for companies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Guido from Cologne:

Guess this is for Alice Coltrane.
  4:26pm rw:

Developed in the 1960s, Muzak’s “Stimulus Code” is based on an hourly cycle of gradually changing intensity that climaxes every fifteen minutes while purporting to reenergize human activity.

From this article: http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/7/min.php
Avatar 4:27pm fred:

@rw: wait, there are "ups" in a typical work day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm fleep:

Climaxing every fifteen minutes is gonna cause some chafing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Guido from Cologne:

I doubt it was anything but a sales argument.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Guido from Cologne:

... i doubt if it was ...
  4:31pm rw:

fred, fleep and Guido, I think you're all probably right!
Avatar 4:33pm Jherweg:

Avatar 4:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm steve:

Avatar 4:39pm coelacanth:

hello Fabio and earthlings.
Avatar 4:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Yeh, this is nuts. Sadly the only thing I have is Gato's LP with Don Cherry (which is brilliant, if less nuts)..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm fleep:

Live feed of fire (mute the audio, listen to Gato) 7online.com...
Avatar 4:41pm coelacanth:

i think i don't know anyone down there now. still it's shitty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm tomasz.:

the Gothamist piece notes that "there was a stop-work order on the property in 2004". can anyone explain the significance of this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm steve:

tom - www.nyc.gov... not sure how one from 11 years ago is relevant but meant safety violations and the city told em to stop building/construction.
  4:47pm G:

tomasz -- http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/safety/stop_work_order.shtml

that was ten years ago, so it may or may not have anything to do with today. any dirt will come out in the wash, i'm sure
  4:48pm V Priceless:

Stop work order is issued by NYC Dept of Bldgs for any number of various unsafe conditions at a job site, usually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Guido from Cologne:

daevid Allen was on the first and only single of Soft Machine.

The Georgio Gromelsky produced early demos with Deavid Allen are on the market in numberless packages for decades. Most of it is the same stuff as the first SoftMachine album.
  4:58pm V Priceless:

Their's an early SM demos CD reissue on Decal from '89 with Daevid Allen. Thanks for this trib, Fabio!
  4:59pm V Priceless:

There's. D'oh!
  5:00pm V Priceless:

It's called 'the soft machine - jet propelled photographs' originally on Charly Records, London.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Guido from Cologne:

There is a highly recommended "Space rock"-special issue of Shindig magazine. Hawkwind, a verty critical view on Gong regarding authorship and Allen heaving left the band for certain important months, BBC-workshop, Joe Meek and ... very good ... an article comparing "Black-Space-Myths" of Geoge Clinton and Sun Ra !
Avatar 5:03pm Cecile:

terrifying. All my thoughts go out to the tenants of that building and the whole neighborhood.
Avatar 5:03pm Marcel M:

Avatar 5:04pm Cecile:

On the topic of Gato, I even like his nutty blowing sessions on Flying Dutchman. It might have had a bit of a pop element, but dude could blow.
  5:06pm V Priceless:

@ Guido: I find the demo versions of the first SM record in many ways even cooler than the official release. Not surprising, given the magnatude of DA's talent mixed among the Wyatt, Ayers and Ratledge.
Avatar 5:08pm coelacanth:

am i the only one whose playlist is not updating?
Avatar 5:09pm coelacanth:

never mind!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Guido from Cologne:

I find both incarnations of equal quality.
And having heard both, you get an idea of the band getting more into jamming out the songs written by Kevyn Ayers. Some groundbreaking work.

And the single is just fantastic. I wish thy made more of theese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm tomasz.:

steve, G, V Priceless: cheers. that's pretty much what i inferred it would be, in which case, i join you in being puzzled as to why they've mentioned this 11-year-old order in reference to this case. we shall see, i guess.
  5:10pm V Priceless:

Agreed Guido.
Avatar 5:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

sigh. Lovely set..
  5:13pm G:

tomasz -- because internet. journalists can search the city public records database in one minute, and they find the old stop-work from 04. with a dramatic breaking story, they'll use anything till they have better info later :)
  5:14pm V Priceless:

@ Tomasz: probably just got the violation history off the Dept of Bldgs public web-site.
Avatar 5:15pm dale:

sooo, renbourn died today? i know that's not the theme of this show but i'll bet fabio likes pentangle
  5:15pm V Priceless:

G is correct. I deal with Dept of Bldgs in my daily work, actually.

  5:23pm I / k / e:

Uh oh, I might have just gotten fired from my depressing job by my volcanic alien boss. He's going to try to deny UI too, and claim everything on the desk is his, incl. several FMU DJ premiums. Didn't know he was a fan of the station, ha ha. :P
  5:23pm V Priceless:

Great set, Fabio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Stepchild:

Love Keith The Missile there
Avatar 5:27pm fred:

@I / K / e: if one of those premiums is from Stan, that might just prove he was high
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Guido from Cologne:

Avatar 5:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

A top favorite gong track, this.
  5:33pm I / k / e:

Ha ha, he could use it... OTOH such a thing might seriously crack his very tightly-wound $$$-obsessed brain. I doubt he could handle any reality where money isn't the be-all and end-all of life and the universe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Stanley:

Yay my favourite Gong, thanks Fabio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Stanley:

Avatar 5:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Camebert Electrique = favorite Gong LP by far. Possibly sacrilege to the Teapot-trilogy people, but Camebert had the essence...
Avatar 5:38pm Sem Chumbo:

I\ll bang a gong for ya, Stanley. It's not time travel per se, but in a pinch...
Avatar 5:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

essence o' space cheese....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm tomasz.:

I / k / e - sorry to hear this, pal. some bastards i worked for last decade did me the same way. Didn't even get to collect the stuff in my desk before i was escorted from the building. Luckily all that was there was work-related tat and a load of useless Secret Santa presents i accumulated over three years. good luck
Avatar 5:39pm fred:

I only saw Daevid Allen twice: once with Gong and once in a James Harrar project with Rogier Smal and Marshall Allen (a Sun Ra related thing). The Gong show was fun, but the other one made me appreciate him more as a musician, without the showman part which didn't work for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Guido from Cologne:

I'm befriended with what on occasions looks like our local clone of Gong (www.theabsurd.de) so I have no lack spacy-tea-pot of supply.
Avatar 5:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Jeezus I/k/e -- that's a pain. Get thee to untold riches immediately.
  5:41pm V Priceless:

Tony Coulter also did a nice little DA trib last week on the stream, sprinkled around the marathon.
  5:41pm Ike:

@tomasz, thanks! Should've been more careful w/ my FMU swag....
Avatar 5:43pm fred:

@RTD: I had to come up with a name for some software at work today. I punted to my boss, but was sorely tempted to call it Embert in tribute to Daevid. They like to prefix everything with their name, so that would have been IrcamEmbert. I did suggest Ember though, we'll see what happens

Avatar 5:47pm JakeGould:

So who is “Ike” compared to non-logged in “Ike” and the man from “I/K/E”?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Guido from Cologne:

Guitar !!!!
There is a GUITAR !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm tomasz.:

you guys know Knifeworld? their mainman Kavus Torabi (also a former Cardiac) played guitar in the final Gong line-up. they're not as spacy but it's clearly in that vein. definitely worth checking out.
  5:50pm V Priceless:
