Ha! That's cool, Sandy. I'm not sure. I live near the UH area. And I don't get out of my cave much.
Avatar 3:23pm Ryab:

I'm about midway between Houston and Galveston
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Guido from Cologne:

Guten TZAG everyone!
Avatar 3:26pm Aric:

I always wondered how many 'fmu listeners were near me. We should do a potluck/ craft beer night.
Avatar 3:26pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

it's an aviary of scalded bees in here. I approve.

  3:34pm P-90:

Guten TZAG Guido. Always gut to hear from you. Been wondering lately where you found that GIF?
Avatar 3:38pm MenfussMike:

cassettes are TERRIBLE. unless they are mix tapes. i have no idea why bands are putting out shit on tape. DUMB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Guido from Cologne:

I had not enough patience to create a GIF myself.
My avatar was one of the few i found and imediately liked.
Some online collection, but forgot where.
  3:41pm P-90:

Why, because cassettes have their own particular grungy analog "charm", of course! Or...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Guido from Cologne:

.... and i still had a lot of cover prints from my 1980ies Cassette releases and threw them away a couple of years ago. I maybe missed a big busines sof selling 80ies "originals".
Avatar 3:47pm Polyus:

I have heard some young scene-folk claim that cassettes sound superior to other formats. Their bands usually sound bad to begin with, though.
Avatar 3:48pm Fabio:

One thing is for sure: they DO sound better than MP3s.
Avatar 3:51pm Ryab:

I think Dave was talking about quality the other day, and in my opinion I prefer uncompressed because silences are actually silent, all the intruments are more clear, and it doesn't need to be turned up to hear them all.
  3:51pm P-90:

Agreed. Or most MP3s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Guido from Cologne:

I claim that the old fashioned standard dial telephone sounds way better than any high end hifi unit.
Avatar 3:51pm MenfussMike:

a band i have worked with wanted me to put out their music on cassette and i just laughed. AT least an mp'3 won't break or unspool.
Avatar 3:52pm MenfussMike:

and you can skip through the shitty parts of an mp3
  3:53pm P-90:

Old-style Bell telephones had great hi-fi analog sound, and were built like Tiger tanks.
  3:54pm Asparagus:

Fabio, this is soo f!^*ing good. Tell us more about this artist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Some info on cassettes and their history - historysdumpster.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Guido from Cologne:

In case it is intersting, today i ruined myself by updating my audio editing and mastering software.
  3:55pm P-90:

Thnx, KfHP
Avatar 3:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

This is wonderful beyond all reason.
Avatar 3:56pm Polyus:

The Bryan Ferry cassette pictured in that link is splendid.
  3:56pm P-90:

@Guido: so which software do you use?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Guido from Cologne:

Good old wavelab and the waves gold bundle.
Avatar 3:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Jeezus, that was JML just then?
  3:58pm P-90:

way cool that the 1958 cassette deck pictured on the website not only still runs, but has the still-standard 1/4" RCA jack input/outputs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Guido from Cologne:

I must admit i bought a new audio interface alog with the software.
Avatar 3:59pm Chris from DC:

Awesome, Justin Marc Lloyd. His stuff's always great.
  4:00pm P-90:

I want a Brian Ferry hairpiece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Guido from Cologne:

We used to make intense use of the tape-saturation the classic TDK-SA provided. If you hated record crackeling and liked bold sound TDK-SA was the tool at hand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm ░ ℰ Ī Ҡ ░::

Until recently I had a car w/cassette deck (I almost typed "cat w/cassette deck" -- that would be cool too), so I still used them, but not much now. That said, I almost NEVER had a cassette break or unspool on me. Very unusual. I took good care of them and NEVER bought crappy off-brand blanks.
Avatar 4:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

cat with cassette deck: excellent idea for artful taxidermy... functional/artful taxidermy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Guido from Cologne:

this must be a very good car deck ... but by very nature also depends on how much vibration is recieved. but i remember an old Citroën 2CV who's tape deck was a real badass
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Guido from Cologne:

the Citroën 2CV is called Ente in German - Duck with tape deck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Stepchild:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DCE:

shit yeah I got to stop myself before the whole catalog's in my cart
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm steve:

i see folks were arguing about tapes. my opinion is that tapes are good, and also bad.

Avatar 5:04pm coelacanth:

cassettes, huh? i use them in my car, and a bit at home...and i record with them.
they hold up far better than cds (especially tdk sa & tdk d).
i used to record all my albums onto tape to preserve the vinyl.
unfortunately i used dolby a lot,so now they need some eq.
Avatar 5:05pm dale:

my car and truck both have cassette. which is fortunate cuz i found some old fmu premiums, some of tony coulter's on cassette and 15 years later they still sound good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm cory:

the best release of 78 was my dad's, roughly 9 months before i was born
Avatar 5:07pm coelacanth:

Guido,it's funny to call that citroën a duck! the next (i think) model after the 2cv was the ds- known as "the shark"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Ike:

Oh wow, old Tony Coulter cassette premiums -- what a treasure trove, @Dale. I think I only have 2-3 old cassette premiums, incl. a great Clay Caplice one.
Avatar 5:14pm coelacanth:

i have 1 fmu premium cassette. Ken's "happy listener's guide to mind control".
but i think i'm getting another this year. (i forgot what i chose.)
Avatar 5:18pm dale:

i have that one from ken, too. they must be from around 2000
Avatar 5:21pm coelacanth:

i think it's from the early 90s actually; but don't quote me on that!
Avatar 5:22pm coelacanth:

i just scrolled up farther. the cassette subject was steamy for a minute!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Guido from Cologne:

*LOL* the duck became a shark!
"Die Ente" was one of the most popular budget cars in Germany.
Cult esp. among students.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Ike:

That one may have gotten reissued at some point...? It was a popular favorite of sorts, I think.
Avatar 5:25pm coelacanth:

i think that's true,Ike.

Guido, that's the 2cv,no? that's the one i've read was popular for decades.
Avatar 5:27pm dale:

i didn't discover the station until 91 or 92, couldn't afford to give until late 90s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm cory:

i might have to get a 2nd job to pay for the music i get turned on to. is anyone hiring a grumpy cook? (not much else i can do)
Avatar 5:28pm dale:

this reminds me of popul vuh soundtrack to coeur de vere, only less melodic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm cory:

dale, i only discovered wfmu about four or five years ago through Cake and Polka Parade
Avatar 5:29pm TDK60:

Where are Shalabi E. from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Guido from Cologne:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Ike:

All of this show's sounds today must've come out of God's ears after Her ENT doctor stuck one of those giant freaky syringe-lookin' things up Her ear to spray out all of the wax. That's how fine it all is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm cory:

i totally agree with Ike. killer show.

Avatar 5:49pm JakeGould:

I want to know if Clay heard Evan Funk Davies tribute to the rock and the metal last night. Zebra was played on WFMU in 2015.
Avatar 5:49pm coelacanth:

those too,Stanley? i guess lots of cars used to be user-serviceable.
...certainly the first generation vws were; and even the 60s' chevies were easy, unless they stuck a 400 ci automatic where a 230 stick should be!

@SeanG: "screw the damn Kraken, release the Pidge" -lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm cory:

Avatar 5:53pm TDK60:
