Good morning everyone. A beautiful Saturday morning here at the virtual diner. Marge, the waitress, says Hi, and I'm going to splurg on the bagel with my eggs today!

Wow! what a blast! I just connected and The Captain is playing! I love this Radio!

Coming through loud and clear in sunny and cold amsterdam. Long live the Zzzzero Hour!
Avatar 3:24am Bill Mac:

@Jay yes I did - eh, that's the way it goes sometimes. I got some ideas to continue the journey until Summer comes along, but it won't be happening til January - winging it until then
  3:26am Martyn:

Good morning Bill and all.

Ratty will be honoured to be chosen as the show's mascot and let me thank you on his behalf. He's away at sea at the moment but I've emailed his present custodian to pass on the great news.
Avatar 3:28am Sem Chumbo:

There will, of course, be a Ratty-mobile; appearances at rodent round-ups; a cape, crown and sceptre, and concubines-in-waiting?
Avatar 3:29am Jay/London:

just love our mascot !!!
Avatar 3:30am Brian in UK:

Mornin' Bill and listeners.
The eyes have it Capt'n Ratty.
Avatar 3:30am Bill Mac:

What clinched it for me was the fact that Ratty actually has papers declared that he's traveled inside the Arctic Circle....
Avatar 3:31am Brian in UK:

Is the other eye green, Martyn?
  3:32am Martyn:

It all depends on the contacts he's wearing on the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32am Fran:

Ratty got Rattytude!!
Avatar 3:32am Brian in UK:

Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens?
Avatar 3:33am Bill Mac:

You mean his other TWO eyes don't you?
Avatar 3:34am Brian in UK:

@Jay you are all ears, you have to go some to beat the Capt'n.
Ratty has contacts all over the globe.

The all seeing third eye, ofcourse, Bill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34am Fran:

  3:34am Martyn:

Of course his other eye ought to be green so he can tell port from starboard, very useful to know on a ship.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37am Fran:

and also where the ship's cat is....

Avatar 3:48am Brian in UK:

Hey Fran I see that The Pink Fraud have a new album out of twenty year outakes "The Needless Record".
Avatar 3:48am Andy in Berlin:

Big drag that you won't be on the new schedule! As Bertie Wooster used to say, "there'll be a strong letter in The Times about this on Monday!"
Avatar 3:48am Bill Mac:

I'm thinking that might be an interesting way to go for the time being.
Avatar 3:48am Brian in UK:

@Andy it has been the talk of the Drones Club all week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50am Fran:

Bill - if you are not back in June I will personally hire Peter Hammill to sing under the station manager's bedroom window every night for a year! Seriously a bad and sad choice - let us know how we can continue to snack 'n' Mac for 8 months Bill!
Avatar 3:50am Brian in UK:

Talking of which, I am toddling off to the metrop to see a couple of giggles next week.
Avatar 3:51am Bill Mac:

@Andy I know! Forget the letter... maybe you guys could fly over here and take a battering ram to the fromt door... or just ring the bell, someone will eventually answer....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51am Mrs Stanley:

Morning assorted criminals, this is Mrs S in Ed. My better half is away from home but promises he will tune in this morn. He will be miffed that I am on the boards! Good to have you back Bill; we missed you last weekend

Avatar 3:53am Looms:

Bill, are you considering filling in here and there?
Avatar 3:54am Bill Mac:

Thanks Mrs Stanley! It's always good to have you hear. Stanley is usually fairly addle minded and groggy for the first hour of the show...
Avatar 3:54am Looms:

btw you're welcome.
Avatar 3:55am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - time to put the top up on the two seater
  3:56am david from ks.:

,,,We must throw ourselves onto the gears and the wheels and bring this total self-destructive man-made machine of of environmental error to a halt ! Cooling the Planet by military chemical spraying my ass !
Avatar 3:58am Bill Mac:

@Looms Absolutely! I've already done my fair share of grovelling and practically scared DJ Martha out of her boots before asking her for a future spot. I'm on top of it.
Avatar 3:58am Brian in UK:

What Ho! Andy.
Avatar 3:58am Looms:

Ha ha, well done!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59am Fran:

Will do Bill - I think I'll still OK the Pete Hammill thing - a CD of covers - Styx, REO, Angel,Foreigner etc and maybe also a Kenny G plays Brotzmann if I have any funds left? I've checked and it is barely in line with the Geneva Convention
Avatar 3:59am Brian in UK:

Bill, at least pick a sensible time, like midnight on a Monday!!
Avatar 3:59am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - [sound of Andy waggling the old coconut]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00am Stanley:

hmmm addle minded and groggy most of the time. Apologies for lateness but should I infer from the previous comments. Bill, that you are coming off air? Oh dear. Our Saturday morns will be listless without you. This is crap news
Avatar 4:01am Brian in UK:

Andy I recently read an anthology of Wodehouse and my wife could not understand why I kept bursting out laughing. Priceless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am mauri:

Top of the world again Bill?
Avatar 4:06am Andy in Berlin:

@Brian - make her read the Drones Club story "Good Bye To All Cats". That should straighten her out.
Avatar 4:09am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - you're just nailing it today. Are you trying to make us feel extra bad about all this? I have to say this show IS Saturday morning. You really have to get the time slot back, you have the best gang around the comments board.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11am Fran:

Brian - are you getting to see Steve Gunn then? I'm catching him in a pub venue in York tomorrow.
Avatar 4:11am Bill Mac:

You guys hear what Andy said? I heartily concur!
Avatar 4:13am Brian in UK:

Andy, I think Wodehouse and Under Milk Wood had an influence on Vivian Stanshalls writing.
Here is a link to Milk Wood from two weeks ago, with Richard Burton as first voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13am Fran:

The DJ speaks the truth...heed his wisdom
Avatar 4:14am Brian in UK:

Fran, Yes on Wednesday at Cafe Oto and Sam Baker on Monday at would you believe Dingwalls.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17am Mrs Stanley:

Avatar 4:17am Sem Chumbo:

Absinthinnian is my jazz tipple. Love the colours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18am Fran:

A good week Brian - enjoy. I'm at Oto next Friday all being well for a blast of Brotzmann. Yes - the Mike Cooper duo is a treat - Nathan Bowles on with SG in York.
Avatar 4:18am Andy in Berlin:

@ Looms - it's sort of a fake. But it's a real fake, made by members of his original backup band. And that was really his voice from an old rehearsal tape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18am Mrs Stanley:

for those of you bare-chested and half naked, the latest WFMU t-shirts arrived this week
Avatar 4:18am Jay/London:

Hear Hear Andy we must do something after all we have a
Mascot now ... guess some kind of podcast would be better then nothing
Avatar 4:20am Brian in UK:

Bill came, he played, he conquered (concurred)
Avatar 4:20am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - I just recently heard RB doing that. As to Viv, not at all surprised.
Avatar 4:20am Looms:

Thanks Andy, will check it out. The piece was gorgeous.
Avatar 4:20am Bill Mac:

@Looms - Forgot we had this CD. Here's the Wiki on it:
Za Bakdaz : The Unfinished Opera is a collection of songs German countertenor Klaus Nomi was working on up until his death in 1983 from AIDS, a disease poorly understood at that time.[3] The album was released posthumously in 2007. The large majority of the tracks have never before been heard on an official studio release. Some of those involved with the project hint that the album was nowhere near completed at the time of Klaus' passing
Avatar 4:21am Andy in Berlin:

@ Jay - music-wise, sure. But I have to say it would be lacking all of us, which for me is a big part of the experience. THIS is social media, man! :)
  4:22am Martyn:

There's a whole lot of lot of concurring going on. Add me to the list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22am Fran:

Brian - that was almost Cyril Fletcher-esque
Avatar 4:22am Looms:

Thank you Bill, yummy!
Avatar 4:22am Bill Mac:

Whether you know it or not, Mr Andy here directed Nomi Song
Avatar 4:23am Brian in UK:

@Sem I read that as Absinthe. Phew

Andy they used his original 1954 recording with a comtemporary cast. 'To begin at the begining' Cannot get enough of Milk Wood. It is so rich and juicy. A play for voices.
Avatar 4:24am Bill Mac:

@Martyn - I agree, does that count?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24am Fran:

Excellent Andy!
Avatar 4:24am Jay/London:

@ Andy in the mean time maybe we could email ken
send letters to the station to get Bill back on .. yes this is a kind of club .. some of us have been here years !!!!
Avatar 4:25am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - I saw the movie years ago. I remember it being pretty cool. Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole AND Glynis Johns!
Avatar 4:26am Brian in UK:

@Jay I have been here for fifty five minutes does that count?
Avatar 4:26am Bill Mac:

@Jay - not a club - a coven!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am Guido from Cologne:

Sounds like Magic band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Bill and everyone!
Avatar 4:28am Bill Mac:

Hiya Guido! Magic Band was an hour ago
Avatar 4:28am Andy in Berlin:

@ Jay- I was going to do that anyway, but yeah let's! At least we can try and fix it so we get our Saturdays back in the Spring.
Avatar 4:29am Brian in UK:

Andy I saw the play at a local rep when I was at skool. Only ever want to HEAR it by the very nature of the description. Peter Blake of Sgt
Pepper sleeve fame plays it at least once a week. Useless fact #27.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29am Guido from Cologne:

Yes, but Stump really sound like post tragic period Magic Band on that song IMHO.
Avatar 4:29am Bill Mac:

mwahhahahah!!! (I'm doing that whilst wringing my hands deviously)
Avatar 4:30am Brian in UK:

Fish & Chips. It must be Fryday.
Avatar 4:31am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - I hear you, but check out the movie if it's available. Great cast. Come on - Victor Spinetti...?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31am Guido from Cologne:

Shocked by new schedule!
No Bil Mac and no Keili?
(OK, you had this discussion already ...)
Avatar 4:31am Brian in UK:

Spinetti. Magical Mystery Tour?
Avatar 4:32am Andy in Berlin:

@ Guido - and while we're on the subject, no Underwater Theme Part and NO FAYE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32am Guido from Cologne:

The new slot for Todd is well deserved and fits perfect after Rex though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33am Guido from Cologne:

... and no Dark niGHT OF tHE sOUL ...
Avatar 4:33am Jay/London:

@ Brian if that is so,you must have a time machine as you
are here most Saturdays.
Avatar 4:33am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - yes but principally the TV director in Hard Days Night.
Avatar 4:33am Brian in UK:

Andy. Remember seeing that Christmas '67, just after buying Bonzoes' Gorilla, then seeing them do Death Cab. Blew me away.
Avatar 4:34am Bill Mac:

@Guido Yeah, there seems to be a glut of new talent that need to get a try.
Avatar 4:34am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - I actually saw that in the movies. At the Fillmore East! And they gave out Yellow Submarine buttons to everyone.
Avatar 4:34am Sem Chumbo:

Well, I gotta say being late to the Zzzzzero Hour coven/cult/clan/tribe, Bill's imminent departure means I will still get up at this ungodly hour and listen to the ZH archives, drink strong French roast and peruse the obits. You know, the usual, until Bill goes live again.
Avatar 4:35am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - I remember the first time I heard the Beatles' You Know My Name, I just assumed it was the Bonzos.
Avatar 4:36am Brian in UK:

Andy ofcourse. HDN just been reissued I believe.
Avatar 4:37am Brian in UK:

Andy what really threw me was when I discovered that The Rutles had several tribute bands. Bonkers.
Avatar 4:37am Bill Mac:

@Andy I'll bet that was the idear....
Avatar 4:37am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - I saw an ad for it. I got a ticket to the US premier. I think that's the movie I've seen the most times in my life. That and "Abbot And Costello Meet Frankenstein".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39am Fran:

You leave your computer for 5 minutes and the comments board grows by a foot!!
Avatar 4:39am Brian in UK:

Stephen Drodz is a talented fella.
Avatar 4:40am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - well obviously they were Bonzo fans. They were also big Goon Show fans. Interestingly enough there was a weekly broadcast of the Goons on WBUR when I was going to school in Boston. They used The Intro And The Outro as the theme music.
Avatar 4:40am Sem Chumbo:

@Fran: the board is modeled on the bamboo growth model.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am Mrs Stanley:

@Fran - tell me about it. The boards are jamming this morn
Avatar 4:41am Brian in UK:

Andy. A George Martin retro of his Parlophone comedy stuff from the late Fifties would be fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41am Fran:

Just getting a cuppa - see you in 3 inches
Avatar 4:42am Sem Chumbo:

Avatar 4:42am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - I knew he was the comedy guy at Parlophone but I didn't know anything more than the Goons.
Avatar 4:43am Brian in UK:

Too late, he's fallen in the water.
Avatar 4:44am Looms:

Shouldn't Za Bakdaz be considered as a tribute rather than as a "fake" album?
Avatar 4:44am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - there is a live NOMI cd that I made up from the movie, and I gave Su Braun a copy when I was on her show years ago. With luck she put it in the library. Take a look.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46am Fran:

Bill - the speed you added your Twisted Sister lack of fanboy tendencies was impressive!
Avatar 4:47am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - thanks for the plug! If anyone would like to take a look, here's a link for the trailer: youtu.be...
And special message to Guido: we will be showing at Sound Track Cologne in - you guessed it - Cologne on Nov 23 and 26!
Avatar 4:47am Looms:

@Andy: sorry if I missed the point but: what movie are you talking about?
Avatar 4:49am Brian in UK:

Still no Monica show.
Avatar 4:49am Bill Mac:

I hope I didn't come off as too uppity to like Twisted Sister. I DO think it's an interesting topic and a great jumping off point to provide some insight into the underground metal scene that was pervasive on the East Coast circa the 80s. I never participated but those clubs were all over the place back then.
Avatar 4:50am Andy in Berlin:

@ Looms - I talked about a couple. What comment do you mean?
Avatar 4:50am Looms:

Andy, I got it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50am Mrs Stanley:

Must leave you for the superstore alas. V much hope Mr S will join you once I've gone. He will inconsolable regarding the new timetable which is rubbish. My shoes are by the front door, where they always are
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51am Fran:

Good movies don't have to be about bands you particularly like or dont like
Avatar 4:52am Sem Chumbo:

@Andy: trailer=sensational!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52am Fran:

Happy times at the Superstore Mrs S
Avatar 4:52am Bill Mac:

Chin up Stanley, we'll be back, lilke a rash... you'll see
Avatar 4:53am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - I was also too uppity to like them back then. An issue that's dealt with in the movie, by the way. I showed the movie to Andy Schwartz who used to be the editor of the NY Rocker who sort of used to look at me cross-eyed when I would talk to him about the movie and then he said it was "An absorbing, even fascinating film that takes as its subject a band I never gave a hoot about. Illuminates a previously unexamined corner of R&R history, the hugely popular NY/NJ suburban cover-band scene of the Seventies." Whodathunkit?!
Avatar 4:53am Looms:

Andy: forget it, I'll get myself a copy of the Nomi Song. :)
Avatar 4:54am Sem Chumbo:

Disculpe, por favor, pero ¿puede alguien decirme donde el nuevo horario WFMU está ocultando?
Avatar 4:54am Andy in Berlin:

@ Sem - I forgot to mention that the name of the movie is "We Are Twisted Fucking Sister!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56am Fran:

If I was raging about the timetable I might question if WFMU stood for Which Fool Messed Up! But I am calm......
Avatar 4:56am Andy in Berlin:

@ Fran - I think that fool's name is Ken. :)
Avatar 4:57am Bill Mac:

@Sem It should be in the 2nd paragraph on the main page.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58am Fran:

Great name Andy! I can't imagine a Supertramp film being similarly titled...well there might be f words in the reviews
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am Fran:

KFC Andy!!
Avatar 5:00am Bill Mac:

@Fran I can't either but I dig the premise - laffin out loud...
Avatar 5:01am Sem Chumbo:

OK. Brother, it IS early.

I love the Tubes - even now they churn out a good show and Prairie Prince is Todd Rundgren's drummer of choice
Avatar 5:15am Brian in UK:

I love the idea of someone naming themselves after a docket. Fee Waybill.
Roll on. Roll off!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17am Fran:

Their Wild West Show DVD and CD of a few years back is great - saw them in Liverpool on that tour - Mondo Bondage with the Bonham Rock and Roll intro - yeh!
Avatar 5:18am Bill Mac:

Fran Prince was on a number of XTC albums after Terry Chambers left.
Avatar 5:18am Sem Chumbo:

Fee Waybill? One of the finer rock names.
Avatar 5:18am Andy in Berlin:

@ Brian - that line has become my personal credo
Avatar 5:18am Bill Mac:

@Fran Probably starting at TRs suggection....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19am Fran:

Thats right Bill- a quality tub thumper
Avatar 5:20am Looms:

With some luck, the Twisted Sisters documentary will be broadcasted on a French-German TV channel.
Avatar 5:21am Brian in UK:

Twenty Tub Thumpimg Greats from Telstar.
Avatar 5:22am Brian in UK:

Bill does have a soft spot for a chanteuse.
Avatar 5:22am Sem Chumbo:

..by the original artists.
Avatar 5:22am Bill Mac:

@Looms - this might be of added interest thenomisong.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22am Fran:

Brian - I'll buy that and play along with it or in the great K-Tel tradition play the parts anonymously
Avatar 5:23am Andy in Berlin:

@ Looms - yeah wouldn't that be nice for the old pocketbook :)
Avatar 5:23am Bill Mac:

@Looms It may eventually end up someplace like vimeo. That's where I just saw Nomi Song again.
We originally saw it at a theater I might add...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24am Fran:

Ringo is on volume 96 if the series lasts that long Brian
Avatar 5:24am Bill Mac:

@Brian Beauty and Brawn - you gotta mix it up.
Avatar 5:24am Looms:

@Bill & Andy: I've just ordered the Nomi Song DVD ;)
  5:24am b k:

Just saw Todd Rundgren earlier tonight and Prarie Prince was playing on an odd but great sounding drum kit.(he has no stool, plays standing up whole show)
Avatar 5:25am Andy in Berlin:

@ Looms - whoa! Thanks!
Avatar 5:26am Looms:

Thanks back to ya!
Avatar 5:27am Brian in UK:

Fran is that Ringo Death Star?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28am Guido from Cologne:

I've got a considerable stack of Turkish arabesque singles waiting to be digitalized. Have already deep cleaned them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28am Fran:

Standing up is still nothing compared to Todd's drummer with Utopia Willie W ilcox who had the infamous drum bike - a motorbike style drumkit - check it out!
Avatar 5:29am Brian in UK:

Thinking of buying a motorbike. Possibly a Honda CB500.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30am Fran:

Ringo Death Star is in my top recent band names with Alvin Sawdust and Bi Jovi
Avatar 5:30am Brian in UK:

@Guido sounds interesting.
Avatar 5:31am Looms:

@Andy: and btw, you know Arte is keen of this kind of musical movies so, as they broadcasted the Nomi Song back in the days, I think there's a good chance they'll be interested in your new movie.
Avatar 5:31am Brian in UK:

Fran spare a moment for Shane Fenton.
Avatar 5:32am Andy in Berlin:

@ Guido - I hope you saw my message to you about the film - showing in Cologne at Sound Track Cologne on nov. 23 and 26.
Avatar 5:32am Bill Mac:

Howsabout John Cougar Concentration Camp?
Avatar 5:33am Brian in UK:

Do I need to say this. Yes I do. GREAT SHOW, BILL.
Avatar 5:33am Andy in Berlin:

@ Looms - well they certainly weren't interested in helping finance it :) But as you point out, they do have a chance to redeem themselves.
Avatar 5:33am Brian in UK:

John Cougar Melonhead?
Avatar 5:34am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - is that name for real or did you just make that up? Either way, it's pretty good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34am Fran:

Ah yes Brian -AS passed away last week?
Avatar 5:35am Bill Mac:

@Andy - Wish I did, best thing that came out of that band was the name.
Avatar 5:36am Andy in Berlin:

How about Motörhead Sherwood? or is that just too, too obscure :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37am Fran:

That sounds like a musical Guantanamo Bay - John Cougar Concentration Camp where boy bands are sent !
Avatar 5:37am Bill Mac:

Motorhead was Moterhead before motorhead...
Avatar 5:38am Looms:

@Andy: probably a lack of money, you know how things are these days... This reminds me I have to pay my local taxes next week, boohoo!
Avatar 5:38am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - good thing I had my coffee already
Avatar 5:38am Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am Guido from Cologne:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am Fran:

Away with him to John Cougar Concentration Camp Andy...he shall be the Man in the Iron Maiden mask!!
Avatar 5:42am Looms:

I think that this BB song was covered in the 60's and became a big hit with this words: do you do you do you Saint-Tropez (which is a famous seaside town is southern France).
Avatar 5:42am Looms:

And yes, great show.
Avatar 5:43am Brian in UK:

Quite a shakeup of the schedule not just Bill's show. Still pissed off though.
Avatar 5:43am Andy in Berlin:

@ Guido - I'm thinking about the 26th. I'll be at a festival in Amsterdam on the 23rd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am Fran:

My pledge for life is in the balance...Ken's on probation!
Avatar 5:45am Brian in UK:

So next week. Two hours of Leapy Lee's 'Little Arrows'?
Avatar 5:46am Andy in Berlin:

@ Bill - is this the horn part from Grazin' In The Grass?!
Avatar 5:48am Brian in UK:

Reparata and the Delrons always did it for me as a band name.
Avatar 5:48am Sem Chumbo:

@Brian: rebroadcasts of Radio Romania recipe segments, in kind of English.
Avatar 5:48am Bill Mac:

All I gotta say is Kens vision goes waaay beyond these shows, so I get that - hey look how far he's gotten this place!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48am Ken From Hyde Park:

Enjoy your time away from the station, Bill. Please come back if the opportunity arises.
