Mark, with your indulgence, I just wanted to repost this, which I had put on other boards earlier:

Listener friends, in case you haven't seen it, I wanted to share a GoFundMe for listener HyperDose, who's had some really terrible luck -- after a long run of health issues, he also had the townhouse he was moving into in Denver blow up, with his phone, wallet, keys all inside it. He doesn't have much of a support network except for the friends he made through WFMU, so sharing this campaign widely is his best shot for getting back on his feet:

www.gofundme.com...

Give if you can, but especially please share with your friends and networks and in any context where you think it might help.

Thanks, Mark!

A normal part of life use to be transitioning out of your parents house into a group living situation - college dormitory or communal living in a spacious old house. Sooner or later that ends and people find themselves living on their own. That's when the dull thump of adulthood makes you realize that you are potentially alone. Then people die and you have to step up to the plate and sort out the junk pile of someone else's life. At that point you start thinking about death in a serious way.

it doesn't matter what's legal. just make a list of your sites/accounts, including passwords, answers to verification answers etc. hide it in a fire/flood proof place in your dwelling. write the hiding place down in a sealed envelope and give that to your designated executor of estate.

We know paper can have a 100 percent information retention over 500 years if treated well.

What we don't seem to be good at knowing is what the point of preserving photos is. I guess we haven't had them very long, but the task of sorting the "save forever and keep" compared to the "I take a million photos all the time because the device lets me do it" seems like a lot more than most folks will ever make time for.

I think it's a good thing to let all this go.

But then, I have neither kids nor social media.

Thanks, Mark! Thanks, Tamara! Thanks, kindly death!
