Avatar 3:14pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

@rev i am thinking this sounds pretty modern to me! waiting patiently to see what it is but i would be surprised if this were a traditional raga, im not an expert on indian classical but this is wayyyyy on the droney side
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm MissG:

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. . .yeah. *shakes myself* On Cloud CuckooLand over there! Hello All! We listeners are ready to fail together -- be immersed in music -- then fail better! [Then <try again. Fail again. Better again. Or better worse. Fail worse again>. . .We know the drill.]

  3:24pm WM:

Maybe this is apocryphal information, but I read somewhere that Captain Beefheart damaged the studio microphone in recording Electricity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm ChukAmok:

@listener james "theremin thursdays" LOVE it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm ChukAmok:

I often think back to the electricity clip from Twin Peaks ('Fire Walk with Me', I'm pretty sure) I wonder how directly Lynch was inspired by the Beefheart song, if really at all.

wow. pretty edgy for someone who ended up putting out albums like "reiki hands of love" !
  3:30pm Androu B.:

Greetings, fellow Failures!

You know, only just now did it hit me that "Mr. Giant Man" is a ripoff of the now un-PC kidsong "Ten Little Indians", which in turn makes me wonder if "Mr. Giant Man" has ever gotten play on Double-Dip Recess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm ChukAmok:

@RRN63 That piece by Beefheart and the clip from the Halp Japanese documentary are some of the most influential approaches to playing music I have ever been introduced to.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

ChukAmok: The beauty of the Gittar is it was never respectable. Well - Segovia determined to make it so - but Gittar's origins are not even clear. Bach wrote for Lute & Cello - not Gittar. To borrow Austin Powers' phrase - the Guitar was the village bicycle: everybody had a ride. Which means it's always represented what it does now - & also - there *are no* oh-fficial Rules... Let alone Electrified...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Carmichael:

wild Neil this one? (3:44 EDT) stuttery, like you are in a strobe light -- like playing "Statues"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Who heard Matt Warwick (him right??) relating how one Einsturzende Live show took 2/3rds of the hearing in one ear for him? Like permanently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Carmichael:

So he still has 4/3 left.
Avatar 3:46pm slugluv1313:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm MissG:

English my grammar Samaritan bonkers Quell, sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well, 3/3 each ear to start - that's 6/6 overall...
- so 4/6ths minus the damage - so oddly 2/3rds again between both ears. Just not evenly distributed...
Avatar 3:50pm slugluv1313:

hiya Bas NL, Carmichael, MissG!
YES it is gorgeous out there! not on a kayak or anything, but was outside earlier -- so wonderful
Avatar 3:50pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

@rev that's why ya gotta wear earplugs
Avatar 3:51pm βrian:

I even wear earplugs when I listen to Fabio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Buffalo - @ 57, just my one speaker Marshall practice amp in my living room has me worried...
Avatar 3:53pm Bas NL:

Unwohltemperiert.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm MissG:

*L* speaking of earplugs, this is reminding me of sitting in the theater at the beginning of "Cremaster 3"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Carmichael:

This sounds like a broken air raid siren.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

P.A. Systems developed beyond expectations... excess of 100decibels in tiny places with powerful Bass like was unknown before
...ine guy once told me he was a drummer - with a Monitor next to him ...wudn' doin' anything - just sitting there. Gittarist did no more than unplug a gittar - & it went WEEEEE!
...instantly perforated his eardrum - sent him to the floor...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm steveo:

this is blending well with the vibrations my refrigerator is making
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm MissG:

I glared at my friend like "I am bailing" but he whispered "darling, it's The Acid Test" so sure enough it cleared the room of punters and then stopped and the Show Commenced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Carmichael:

The manager for, I believe, Blue Cheer was rather proud that his band was so loud they "turned the air into cottage cheese."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Carmichael yes - they would play clubs holding 400 people with two Marshall stax each for Bass & Gittar. But when the really Big Amps were developed - the P.A. Systems hadn't quite yet... & even the Big Amps had less Gain @ 1st...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm chresti:

A-OK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm MissG:

www.mcny.org... wow, just wow. must digest
  4:08pm WM:

The screenplay of The Gambler was written by James Toback who went on to direct Fingers and Exposed - both terrible films, I think, but he also wrote the screenplay to Bugsy, which I thought was very good.
Avatar 4:10pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

speaking of hearing loss.
one can't help but wonder about the fate of the "speaker children" at all those raves in the '90s ... the tribe would appear like moths to a porch-light and swoon a couple of feet from the gigantic PA stacks. They were adorable. Probably all deaf, dead, or insane now.
Avatar 4:12pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

anybody got lyrics?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Krull Sagan:

Fabio drones us so good.....
Avatar 4:13pm HyperDose:

@steveo Refrigerator sounds are quite intriguing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm ChukAmok:

Saw 'The Gambler' last night. So good. For fans of Caan Michael Mann's 'Theif' is also really good and kind of a primer for Mann's later directing of 'Heat'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm steveo:

not complaining, to be clear
Avatar 4:15pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

industrial-grade fridges are fantastic when they get old & begin to die. One grocery around here had the best dairy cooler ever. Field-recordings aplenty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Ryan Due:

i had a feeling this would be the perfect afternoon to scrape out the grinder and smoke that hashy stuff
  4:17pm WM:

Blue Cheer is a guilty pleasure of mine. I think they qualify as the first heavy metal band and also as a proto-noise band. They should have gone all the way and produced nothing but earth shaking, ear splitting noise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm coelacanth∅:

g'day Fabio and Failers
  4:19pm Smog on the Tyne:

Hello you lovely lot from a warm but rainy Northern England.
Avatar 4:21pm slugluv1313:

everything you have been playing has been great, but really loving this Cloudland Canyon/Lichens -- so cool, so perfect for this Summer afternoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm MissG:

This Cloudland Canyon/Lichens piece is gorgeous for a day like today (also, El ángel exterminador is one of my favorite films [just don't ask me what it's about.])
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm mariano:

Heavy tropical rain in New Orleans, it's all been the perfect soundtrack.
Avatar 4:24pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

Ken FHP - then you have achieved full JohnCage Audition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

"Concourse C" might be a good name for a drone track, methinks.
  4:27pm nic:

Hi @Revolution Rabbit Nov63 ! Sorry I missed your reply yesterday during SW's show. just to say that I had thought about emailing Jeffrey. I just felt that the best time to do it had passed too. But am still thinking of going ahead with it anyway, now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm maestroso:

Sustained Piece was pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm ChukAmok:

KFHP: Pretty sure "Concourse C" is an outtake from Eno's 'Music For Airports'.

@MissG: Philip Glass wrote an opera based on The Exterminating Angel. I never saw/heard it so I don't know how good it is.

  4:42pm Kpx:

RRN63 - as a result's of your hearing damage do you have tinnitus, my multi tone high pitch ringing is so loud it drives me crazy. Not to mention everything sounds dampped like my head is a cardboard box.
