It has only just occurred to me that DK shares a monogram with a popular publisher of informative books for kids. Does DK do rock? Yes, DK does rock: http://www.dkfindout.com/uk/music-art-and-literature/types-music/rock/

@KFHP: Heck, yeah! One of the cookbooks (about grilling) I use most frequently is a DK volume. Kinda bugs me, though, because the photographs always depict the ingredients -- the mise en place -- all set out in perfectly measured little piles. Like I'm gonna do that!

Pete L:

To Cecile etc - That was Kansas. See if you can find, by The BOB SEGER SYSTEM, "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man", "2 + 2 (Is On My Mind)" and "Heavy Music, Pts. 1 + 2" and go from there until the early 70's
Avatar 12:56pm
Cecile:

Dave Edmunds also did a ridiculously good version of it, too.

Yes, we know. We're riffing off a joke Chris M. did about Bob Seger being on Diane's show and doing his hits like "Running on Empty". Chris M is kind of silly.

I do love all those records, Pete L. Great stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
coelacanth:

(i also really liked kansas back then...and still don't hate it.)

i don't know "ninja moves"...is that from his mediocre-rock period?
  12:57pm
Dean:

Oh, yeah, the Dave Edmunds version! Forgot about that one. And everybody knows "Running on Empty" was John Cougar.
  12:57pm
JakeGould:

Nice Lizzy Mercier Descloux right over here. Finished reading the Richard Hell book… *spoiler* But his screwing around on Lizzy while she was nice to him scrapped their marriage plans and pushed him towards going into drug rehab for real. That and his screwing over of Cookie Mueller.
Avatar 12:57pm
Cecile:

It's actually Night Moves, but if you substituted a blender name for "night". When you said "Magic Bullet" I thought about that new blender.

I thought it was Eddie Money.
  12:59pm
Dean:

No, wait. It was Meat Loaf, the song after "Paradise by the Dashboard Light."
Avatar 12:59pm
V Priceless:

always enjoyed the riff in Seger's silly "Her Strut"

haha on the blender ref - I thought of that too

Air's early instrumental stuff esp is pretty cool
  1:02pm
Clay:

Seger sold out? As in having hit records? I bet Iggy would have loved to have all those hits (fellow Michigander). Love Kansas, too. So many more artists worthy of scorn than those two.
  1:02pm
Dean:

@coelacanth: OMG, yes. First album, pre-Graeme Douglas. Raw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
chris:

Yep, I like Air.
Avatar 1:04pm
Cecile:

I have no problem with anyone having hits if they have hits with good songs. Most of Seger's non-regional hits were pretty dopey. I will stand by that opinion. I also said nice things about Bob Seger being a good Michiganian boy.
Avatar 1:05pm

And Iggy did OK with songwriting for David Bowie.

when "do anything you wanna do" was on the radio,i couldn't afford both albums and i chose the second; but if i had chosen the first,"get out of denver" wouldn't be on it anyway. it's a reissue bonus track.
i think now i must get both reissues. (as well as check out very early Seger, which i'm just slightly familiar with.)
