Listener James! V Priceleess! Dean! Heya!

As for what's in the skillet, I just threw some bongwater in. Should season things nicely.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:05pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Doug Doug!!
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:06pm βrian:

A little bongwater? That'd be braising. Add a little more: poaching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:08pm listener james from westwood:

βrian: As sharp as the lead will allow!
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:09pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:16pm Carmichael:

Tony, the playlist is not showing up here? I'm listening on my iPhone, so I can get it that way.

@ Carmichael: I'm not aware of any playlist problems. Anyone else not seeing it?
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:18pm Tony Coulter:

Love your song "96 Ears."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

She sounds like my type of woman.
  Tue. 5/5/15 12:31pm Dean:

A confession: Listening yesterday to the campus radio station while running errands in town I heard a proggy instrumental that struck me as suitable for this show, but I didn't catch the back-announce. The bass playing had that Rush-like exaggerated Rickenbacker quality, but I was pretty certain the tune was not those guys. My mistake: It was their "Xanadu" from A Farewell to Kings. I can't believe I enjoyed Rush.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:31pm βrian:

Oh my, the belly is beginning to clamor. I'm not sure if the banana poached in bongwater is going to keep me put ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:32pm DCE:

greets all. that lady with the muscles is long dead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:33pm DCE:

@ Dean, that's a good album, actually. You could have been listening to Olivia Newton John sing Xanadu.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:35pm Tony Coulter:

@ DCE: I don't know -- she looks pretty healthy to me. Could be lifting weights in a retirement home somewhere, at 120-years young.

(Oh, and ... greets!)
  Tue. 5/5/15 12:35pm Dean:

@DCE: ONJ singing "Xanadu" I'd have recognized from my record store days. Dare I say the Rush reminded me a bit of Happy the Man? Is that scandalous or what?
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:37pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: I enjoy a bit of Rush now and again. One just has to embrace the over-the-topness. In fact, that's part of the charm.
  Tue. 5/5/15 12:42pm Dean:

I'm not a big John Adams fan, but I heard this piece performed live in LA with Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting and it was good.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:44pm Tony Coulter:

Only like a few John Adams pieces myself -- that being one of them, natch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:45pm Carmichael:

Crafty Hands was a vastly superior album to that previously mentioned thing from that band Dean was talking about.
  Tue. 5/5/15 12:47pm Dean:

@Carmichael: You have to confront your fears. Go on, you can say it. Starts with an R...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:49pm listener james from westwood:

Really liking this That Dog. Or that This Dog. (Is this or that clear? That depends.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:50pm Carmichael:

I can't. I just can't ...
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:50pm Tony Coulter:

@ Listener James: Yes, it's a very fine one-shot album. Petra Haden and her sister were in the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:52pm northguineahills:

Wow, haven't heard That Dog in eons.....
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:54pm Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, NGH!

I'm reliving the '90s today (it's a symptom of living in Portland).
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:57pm Tony Coulter:

The peculiar mix for this Corner thing is as Gob intended, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:59pm listener james from westwood:

Wow! Paleolithic Petra!
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:59pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:59pm drr:

That Animal House scream was impressive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 12:59pm listener james from westwood:

No probs w/ reliving the early 90s from this quarter.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 12:59pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:23pm βrian:

Lard Na with chili paste. Lord, I need that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 1:24pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Speaking of Sanders, finally got to finish the collected ed. of his TALES OF BEATNIK GLORY. A fine work, that is.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:24pm Tony Coulter:

Is Lard Na a minor Hindu divinity?
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:28pm βrian:

A major SE Asian one — one sure to sate any pastafarian.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:28pm Tony Coulter:

@ Turnip: Would like to read those Tales. I have read "The Family," which is quite good ... but a wee bit different, I imagine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 1:29pm Rich in Washington:

I think The Family is hands-down the best book on the subject I have ever read, and I think I may have read them all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 1:31pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

very different indeed. Not to mention the subject matter being a wee bit more joyful.. Intensely fun read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 1:32pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I was left thinking, Jeezus. Kotzwinkle pinched the whole vibe in his "the fan man" novel from Sanders' Tales. Might as well steal from the best.
....anyway; that Marclay/Yoshihide was marvelous.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:32pm βrian:

This guy really knows the drill.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:37pm Tony Coulter:

And this guy really knows his fish....
  Tue. 5/5/15 1:40pm Dean:

"Slugfuckers on the Stream" was the unfinished Hemingway novel, wasn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 1:45pm Jeff Golick:

Any relation to Ron Klaus, who wrecked his house?
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:47pm Tony Coulter:

Dunno. Interesting question!
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:49pm Tony Coulter:

A lil' erhu fer u.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 1:53pm drr:

Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:53pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 1:56pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:57pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, UM!!
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 1:57pm Tony Coulter:

The parts you missed were all terrible. As soon as you left the room, I started to suck....

UM, those parts do not lie; it's been a stone groover.
  Tue. 5/5/15 2:11pm Dean:

I kid you not, I took my kids to Adventure Playground on Sunday.
Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 2:13pm Tony Coulter:

The Times is a TVP offshoot (it's an Edward Ball project)
  Tue. 5/5/15 2:19pm Dean:

Avatar Tue. 5/5/15 2:42pm V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 5/5/15 2:54pm northguineahills:

@Dean, sounds awesome, minus the soda....

I, for some retarded reason, made tomatillo/poblano/carrot/leek, etc soup, when it's a soupy humid day.
  Tue. 5/5/15 2:54pm Dean:

A track on Leo Kottke's 1995 live album from Denver, "The Room at the Top of the Stairs" has an affinity with this tune.
  Tue. 5/5/15 2:55pm Dean:

@ngh: One can never put enough etc in a soup!
