Hi Irene, and Sean and all to come!
Mon. 6/9/14 12:01pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hi Irene, hello Kat and one and all
  Mon. 6/9/14 12:01pm paula pc:

gorgeous start, Irene -- thank you
  Mon. 6/9/14 12:01pm Jack:

Great start, MORE ABDULLAH IBRAHIM please!
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:03pm Mike East:

I think Joe McGasko played this track. Loved it then, and even more now.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:04pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Nica is one lovely kitty
  Mon. 6/9/14 12:06pm Jack:

From back when Abdullah Ibrahim was still a bit of a wild man...
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:06pm common:

ello! hi kitty! everyone!
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:12pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Still in a lather from the fab live set from Elysian Fields, the album is a thing of beauty
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:13pm kat330:

[back from kitchen and phone] Thought maybe it would be an all cover songs show. :)
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:15pm Jeff:

I enjoyed the Abdullah Ibrahim song, but it got me to wondering - was he using some kind of prepared piano, rigged up to sound extra tinny? Because that sound was pretty much devoid of bass.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:16pm KP:

Nice & dreary does it
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:16pm kat330:

I'm getting the impression it's nasty weather in NYC?
Avatar Mon. 6/9/14 12:17pm Irene Trudel:

@Jeff, that Ibrahim track was a live recording from 1969 without a lot of recording notes. I suspect it was an off the board recording.
Avatar Mon. 6/9/14 12:18pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, @kat, good and rainy.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:21pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Just a question to the loyal North American listeners, found a good series on Netflix that fills the gap, "Trailer Park Boys". I think I am picking up the different dialect that is Canadian, "about" being one word that sound unique or am I imagining it?
  Mon. 6/9/14 12:21pm Jack:

I saw Abdullah Ibrahim many times, never saw him use anything like a prepared piano. Agree about the piano sound, most of his early albums have that tinny sound to the piano, not sure why.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:22pm kat330:

Yep you are aboot right on that.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:23pm common:

that's what i was aboot to write, kat330! that's a great show, sean!
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:24pm kat330:

Not much else to distinguish. There's the "eh" sentence ender and the harder "rr's" like our upper Midwest.

@Common: I figured as much, so I typed really fast. :)
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:27pm kat330:

Sad to see the Cosmos voyage come to an end last night. I hope there will be more such fine science programs produced.
  Mon. 6/9/14 12:31pm paula pc:

this still kills me EVERY time -- even in summer!!!!
  Mon. 6/9/14 12:32pm paula pc:

tho it could be summer leaves...
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:32pm common:

@Kat330: Ha!!!
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:33pm kat330:

@Paula: The Hitchcock you mean? Yeeeesss...
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:35pm kat330:

@Sean: We recently enjoyed a short season we found on HuLu: Moone Boy. Quite enjoyed it. Sort of a blend of our "Wonder Years" and "Malcolm in the Middle."
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:36pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, thanks for that, will keep an eye out for that series
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:38pm kat330:

@Sean: It's a Chris O'Dowd production. Loved The IT, too.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:41pm kat330:

@Irene: It's so far a very piano-centric show. Do the tinkling of the ivories remind you of rainfall?
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:42pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Don't know about everyone else but I am getting hypnotised by Nica, cute, cute kitty
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:44pm kat330:

Strumming the piano board like a harp? Wow, been decades since I heard F & T on the radio.
Avatar Mon. 6/9/14 12:46pm v k:

Pyramid Song - bravo
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:48pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Radiohead, marvellous
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:48pm chris:

Always nice to hear Radiohead. Yes, I am one of "those" people. ;-)
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:49pm kat330:

One of your finest exports, UKers.
Avatar Mon. 6/9/14 12:49pm v k:

when Amnesiac was released Summer 2001 i'd get lost in this song - the animated video is also quite nice
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:50pm common:

love pyramid song. always makes me a bit sad.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:51pm kat330:

We just watched Besson's "Adele Blanc-sec" yesterday, so Pyramid is quite appropriate.
Avatar Mon. 6/9/14 12:51pm v k:

best concert experience of my life was seeing Thom and Nigel do Atoms for Peace songs at tiny venue in Greenwich Village (le poisson rouge) in March 2013 - show began 1am - live mixing, singing and intense visuals
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 12:52pm chris:

wow, right on, v k!
  Mon. 6/9/14 12:54pm OTB:

The Kotche was a cool piece! We played in some ensembles together in college. Add him to the list of people I once knew who are far more successful than I.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:01pm kat330:

So glad it's piano and not ukulele-centric today. Had hoped the "cute quirky girl w/ukulele" had finally ended its overlong zeitgeist reign, but then it popped back up with a vengeance on Soundcloud. :,
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:14pm kat330:

Pallett seems to me to be a student of Brian Wilson.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:21pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Great track form Ilhan Ersahin
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:36pm common:

great doc, irene!
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:39pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Thank you Irene
Avatar Mon. 6/9/14 1:39pm drewo:

Hi Irene, the show sounds wonderful here in sunny Arizona. I met Ginger Baker in the stairwell of my apartment building in Queens some 30 years ago! He was a nice guy for that minute then.

@ Sean: sorry that my Giants had to KO the Mets this weekend. Giants are rolling.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:43pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Drew, the best two from both divisions are from the Bay Area
  Mon. 6/9/14 1:47pm don d:

Mimi Goese- now there's someone who has never gotten 1% of the recognition she deserves. Her solo album entitled "Soak" is excellent.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:50pm kat330:

@don d: Wonder if Radiohead was influenced -- sort of a similar melodic line to them.
  Mon. 6/9/14 1:52pm don d:

kat330-can't say, but Mimi has been a unique talent since her days with Hugo Largo. Thom Yorke very open about his influences and likes-
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 1:54pm kat330:

Ooh, seeing the playlist ahead of where I thought I was, maybe it was Meaner Pencil I was hearing a similarity? Have to go back in archives to be sure.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 2:13pm kat330:

Van Etten will be here locally in Louisville at the Forecastle Festival July 20th. Would love, but too rich for our blood.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 2:15pm kat330:

Westerberg here for that as well, sigh.
Avatar    Mon. 6/9/14 2:18pm kat330:

It's been good fun, but now I gotta run. Thanks, Irene, and bye!
  Mon. 6/9/14 2:39pm Andy Plants:

Beautiful
  Mon. 6/9/14 2:52pm Jack:

These guys are great, so terrific they are back together recording and performing. Just got this CD, haven't had time to spend with it yet.
     Mon. 6/9/14 2:54pm 12539:

Thanks, Irene.
Avatar Mon. 6/9/14 2:56pm Irene Trudel:
