gorgeous start, Irene -- thank you

Great start, MORE ABDULLAH IBRAHIM please!

I think Joe McGasko played this track. Loved it then, and even more now.

From back when Abdullah Ibrahim was still a bit of a wild man...

Still in a lather from the fab live set from Elysian Fields, the album is a thing of beauty

[back from kitchen and phone] Thought maybe it would be an all cover songs show. :)

Jeff:

I enjoyed the Abdullah Ibrahim song, but it got me to wondering - was he using some kind of prepared piano, rigged up to sound extra tinny? Because that sound was pretty much devoid of bass.
Avatar 12:16pm
KP:

Nice & dreary does it

I'm getting the impression it's nasty weather in NYC?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Irene Trudel:

@Jeff, that Ibrahim track was a live recording from 1969 without a lot of recording notes. I suspect it was an off the board recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Irene Trudel:

Yes, @kat, good and rainy.

Just a question to the loyal North American listeners, found a good series on Netflix that fills the gap, "Trailer Park Boys". I think I am picking up the different dialect that is Canadian, "about" being one word that sound unique or am I imagining it?
  12:21pm
Jack:

I saw Abdullah Ibrahim many times, never saw him use anything like a prepared piano. Agree about the piano sound, most of his early albums have that tinny sound to the piano, not sure why.
Avatar 12:22pm
kat330:

Yep you are aboot right on that.

that's what i was aboot to write, kat330! that's a great show, sean!
Avatar 12:24pm
kat330:

Not much else to distinguish. There's the "eh" sentence ender and the harder "rr's" like our upper Midwest.

@Common: I figured as much, so I typed really fast. :)

Sad to see the Cosmos voyage come to an end last night. I hope there will be more such fine science programs produced.

@Sean: We recently enjoyed a short season we found on HuLu: Moone Boy. Quite enjoyed it. Sort of a blend of our "Wonder Years" and "Malcolm in the Middle."

Sean in Bristol UK:

@Kat, thanks for that, will keep an eye out for that series
Avatar 12:38pm
kat330:

@Sean: It's a Chris O'Dowd production. Loved The IT, too.
Avatar 12:41pm
kat330:

@Irene: It's so far a very piano-centric show. Do the tinkling of the ivories remind you of rainfall?

We just watched Besson's "Adele Blanc-sec" yesterday, so Pyramid is quite appropriate.

best concert experience of my life was seeing Thom and Nigel do Atoms for Peace songs at tiny venue in Greenwich Village (le poisson rouge) in March 2013 - show began 1am - live mixing, singing and intense visuals

The Kotche was a cool piece! We played in some ensembles together in college. Add him to the list of people I once knew who are far more successful than I.

So glad it's piano and not ukulele-centric today. Had hoped the "cute quirky girl w/ukulele" had finally ended its overlong zeitgeist reign, but then it popped back up with a vengeance on Soundcloud. :,

Hi Irene, the show sounds wonderful here in sunny Arizona. I met Ginger Baker in the stairwell of my apartment building in Queens some 30 years ago! He was a nice guy for that minute then.

@ Sean: sorry that my Giants had to KO the Mets this weekend. Giants are rolling.

Mimi Goese- now there's someone who has never gotten 1% of the recognition she deserves. Her solo album entitled "Soak" is excellent.
Avatar 1:50pm
kat330:

@don d: Wonder if Radiohead was influenced -- sort of a similar melodic line to them.
  1:52pm

kat330-can't say, but Mimi has been a unique talent since her days with Hugo Largo. Thom Yorke very open about his influences and likes-
