Live Performance by Elysian Fields (Jennifer Charles: vocals, toy piano; Oren Bloedow: guitar, foot percussion; Danton : bass)

With sultry vocals and keyboards by Jennifer Charles and Oren Bloedow providing guitar, vocals and a host of other instruments, as Elysian Fields they have been quietly releasing their jazzily eclectic albums since the 1990s. Jennifer and Oren were drawn together through the early incarnation of The Knitting Factory where Jennifer worked. And Oren's worked with the likes of Henry Threadgill, David Murray, Sonic Youth and Jeff Buckley, who also had ties to the old Knit Fac. Their latest disc is "For House Cats And Sea Fans" and Elysian Fields dropped by to play some of those tunes for WFMU.

Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:07pm Sem Chumbo:

Good afternoon, Irene, and all. How I do love this string driven thing.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:07pm Van in DC:

Getting a 404 page not found from Flickr from that photo...anybody else able to get to it? Might be my work...
  Mon. 6/2/14 12:08pm P-90:

Humble......Tripe?
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:09pm nah:

I get no 404, all picture here.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:09pm v k:

Elysian Fields - if they play 'Duel with Cudgels' then my day will be made
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:11pm KP:

Good glorious afternoon to you, Irene
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:12pm common:

good day!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:12pm Van in DC:

Did anyone else catch Laura Cantrell's live performance yesterday, at the record fair? I thought she was great
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:13pm kat330:

@? : Hello back and to all the Mysterians, too!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:15pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Sorry Kat, that was me, I forgot to sign in before posting
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:16pm Irene Trudel:

Hi all! Setting up for Elysian Fields so I just saw this. I'm getting the picture here at WFMU. Try refreshing your browser. If not, I'll switch it out with a link.
  Mon. 6/2/14 12:18pm don:

So great to hear Melaena-can't get enough of this gifted artist.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:18pm Van in DC:

It's okay, probably just my work filtering it or something. They do weird things with internet access attempts sometimes. Just happy I can get to WFMU!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:18pm kat330:

@Irene: Getting the picture fine here, but you might eventually like to add another "en" within enlightenment. :)

@Sean: I sort of surmised it might be you.
  Mon. 6/2/14 12:19pm GONGOLEER(STEPHAN):

HI IRENE. WELCOME BACK. AS ALWAYS ENJOYING YOUR SELECTIONS. NICE VIBE TO ENTER A MONDAY AFTERNOON. THANKS FOR MAIL. WILL BE IN TOUCH. HOW MANY ATTENDED THE FAIR? WISH VT. WASN'T SO FAR AWAY BUT I WOULDN'T TRADE IT EITHER. HELLO TO ALL YOUR GLOBAL LISTENERS. WHAT PICTURE ARE YOU REFERRING TO?
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:19pm Mike East:

the picture shows up, but when I click on it to follow the link to flikr, I get a 404 message as well...was hoping to checkout more record fair pics
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:20pm Van in DC:

Ha, same here Mike East. I see the photo just fine in the browser but I was clicking on it trying to see more :)
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:22pm Van in DC:

So off of Irene's actual Flickr page, the link shows as:

www.flickr.com...
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:22pm Parq:

I have the same 404 message when I click on the photo as it appears on the playlist. I was able to get Irene's photo stream (as it turns out, Flickr is one of the few popular image sites not banned by my employer's porn-phobic IT dept.) by searching for Irene Trude Flickr on Google.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:23pm Irene Trudel:

Well, I haven't gotten around to posting mine yet. Might be better to go to Flicker and search directly.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:23pm kat330:

Fay's song could be a graduation speech. I'd add: drink plenty of water and always wear sunscreen.
  Mon. 6/2/14 12:28pm Andrew:

This is very soothing as I recover from hand surgery. Just what I need today. Started typing this at the Robin Scott song---running at a slow pace---you're now three songs on.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:29pm kat330:

Sometimes a saw can be played to sound like a human voice. She sings to sound like a saw. Haunting.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:32pm gongoleer:

Irene I have a few more photos which I grabbed off screen and can send to you for use. How should I do that?
  Mon. 6/2/14 12:35pm don:

Mike Stuart Span/Leviathan- now that is obscure, but still sounds pretty good 45+ years later, doesn't it?
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:45pm kat330:

This Pallett suits my musical palate and palette quite nicely.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:50pm nah:

@kat: Nice. Also, mine too.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:53pm Sean in Bristol UK:

This is turning into a fab set
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:54pm kat330:

Noticed many arrangements since the get-go are thick with violins. It's a string-saturated show today. :)
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:57pm Van in DC:

wonderful set
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:57pm kat330:

Perhaps it's a case of older record fair finds. Once upon a time, string arrangements -- synth or not - were all the rage.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 12:58pm nah:

Great set! Off to grab some dinner, will definitely return to the archive of this!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:02pm Van in DC:

Yeah, the Parallelograms album from '70
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:03pm Van in DC:

Linda Perhacs just had a nasty fall and had to cancel UK tour dates

Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:23pm thunderish' Jay:

whats with the "give the drummer radio" second stream on the main page? something all drummers should know about?
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:26pm thunderish' Jay:

WFMU experimentation or a must have concrete drummer resolution
?
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:27pm Mike East:

@thunderish jay - WFMU has several alternate streams...most of the time, they are not live DJ's, but the Give the Drummer Stream has scheduled live DJ slots each week. right now is one of those slots
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:28pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Great set from Elysian Fields, any chance of heading our way?
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:28pm thunderish' Jay:

nice ... thanks ... and probably theres info on the alternative streams on the main page ...
  Mon. 6/2/14 1:30pm mike east:

Yes, the left column under "listen" on the main page
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:30pm thunderish' Jay:

im stoked .. i mean i never thought of a rradio this way
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:30pm thunderish' Jay:

like rrrrrrrradio ..... amplifying the magnet to attach the all ears flys
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:33pm Irene Trudel:

Going back a few minutes, sorry to hear that about Linda, Van! She looked a bit fragile when I saw her last year.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:45pm Van in DC:

Thank you Elysian Fields! Very enjoyable set!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 1:50pm common:

Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:47pm SeanG:

fun interview with Clay Pigeon yesterday!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:47pm Irene Trudel:

Muchas gracias thunderish Jay!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:51pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Sean! He is so much fun to talk to! His mind flits around like a hummingbird as he interviews you.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:54pm Van in DC:

For some bizarre reason this Home to the Heron kind of was reminding me of a tune I heard on, um, Jeffrey's show I think, "The Doubted". Gotta be just me though.
  Mon. 6/2/14 2:54pm 12539:

Thanks, Irene (& guests).
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:55pm the glowing one:

Yeah, while people answer a question he's coming up with a totally different question based on a tiny detail from that answer. Often he doesn't even let people finish their answers. It's like his mind works in double speed but he's totally smooth the whole time.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:57pm Irene Trudel:

Hey, I just figured out why the photo link didn't work. The picture was uploaded from my phone and somehow made it in as "private." I've changed it so you all can use the link. Thanks for tuning in today!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:58pm Van in DC:

Ha, maybe part of it was that "Sheron"..."Heron"...hmmm... anyways thanks Irene! Thanks again to Elysian Fields!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 2:59pm Irene Trudel:

I'll post more photos later today. I've got quite a backlog, including some from live sessions at WFMU. Thanks All!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 3:00pm the glowing one:

Thanks, Irene.
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 3:01pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Thank you, Irene
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 3:04pm Van in DC:

Oooh, pics!
Avatar Mon. 6/2/14 3:54pm gongoleer:

WHERE WILL THESE PHOTOS BE LOCATED?
Avatar Tue. 6/10/14 1:38pm Van in DC:

I was popping back in to see if the photos were up but looks like not...over at Flickr maybe?
