Hey Therese, y'all... can't sleep yet, stuck working. I'm a night owl though.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:04am Ken From Hyde Park:

The resurrection is celebrated next Sunday, isn't it?

¡Hola!

I would like to go sleep but the desire to listen to the show is overriding my better judgement.

Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:09am BadGuyZero:

Does this version include a subliminal message?

Irwin! Hi, Irwin!
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:10am pacific standard simon:

They should have called the album Spooky Twoth.

Ms. DJ Therese! Off to a kickin' start this morning.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:21am Whooda:

This is certainly a Wikipedia rich set. Thanks for the introduction to Sandra Rhodes DJ Therese.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:32am BadGuyZero:

I thought he was singing "caffeine," not "Kathleen." I thought maybe this was your subtle way of asking for coffee.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:37am Skirkie:

I have a tendency of telling my sister (Kathleen) about songs containing Kathleen.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:40am Skirkie:

...she usually doesn't care.
  Mon. 4/14/14 12:44am Steve-O:

Hi Therese. I hope you're doing well tonight. =)
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:53am pacific standard simon:

This Sun Araw EP is understandably popular on FMU these days.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:55am mariano:

@Bad Guy Zero: it's ok, I thought he sang something about how he likes Aleister, not Irish girls.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 12:56am Whooda:

DJ Therese it seems you're dancing ever-so-closely to Tom Waits.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 1:17am BadGuyZero:

@mariano: Nice to know I wasn't the only person mishearing things in that song.

Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 1:53am Therese:

One of mine, too!
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:02am BadGuyZero:

This Dennis Coffey track would mashup well with Meco.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:02am mariano:

For a sec at the beginning I thought this was the Spinners' Rubber Band Man, which I'll always remember as the song they play in Stripes when John Candy is mud wrestling with the strippers.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:04am BadGuyZero:

TRIVIA: Dennis Coffey was the first white artist to perform on "Soul Train."
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:06am phat:

this was recorded after 1979? wow.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:10am Therese:

phat- Just barely- 1980

Coffey cleared the way for Bowie.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:11am P-90:

The Valdons?!? OMG I forgot this band existed
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:13am phat:

I've heard "You Ain't Nothin' But a Bear-cat" on 'FMU like 3 times this week, and Hound-dog.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:14am mariano:

So I'd imagine there's some connection between this and Hound Dog?
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:16am phat:

it was an answer to Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog"
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:16am mariano:

Ah, thanks, @phat!
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:17am phat:

this Amerie track is tough. I dig it.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:17am P-90:

@mariano: it's the same song, it was popular with the "Race Music" crowd for years and there were many different versions. This was a "male" reply but probably not the first. Then: Elvis
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:18am phat:

Shows you how out of touch I was in the middle of the last decade. I've never heard this song.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:19am mariano:

@P-90: Thanks, good to learn that!
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:21am phat:

I should change my name to Frangipane.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:21am BadGuyZero:

The documentary about Jodorowsky's Dune finally opened in Dallas this weekend. I plan on seeing it this week.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:22am tomB:

Viva El Topo!
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:23am phat:

I should see that. I should also give El Topo another chance. Couldn't even finish it the one time I tried.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:23am P-90:

@mariano: Yeah, the basic song was around for a long time before Big Mama made the famous record, these were songs that working Blues singers learned from each other, and did them with their own variations
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:24am full_english_breakfast:

i recommend checking out the director's commentary soundtrack on the holy mountain dvd
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:24am P-90:

phat: best to have the right sacred snacks when you tackle El Topo (which tackles you in the end)
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:25am BadGuyZero:

When I saw Foetus they projected Holy Mountain on a screen above them during their set.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:26am phat:

I dug Sante Sangre when it came out. It still gives me the shivers.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:27am phat:

And, really, his Dune could have been one astounding thing. Lynch's was interesting. I haven't seen the TV version. It looks pretty crappy.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:31am mariano:

Yeah, been dying to see the Dune doc. One of those never-was films, like the Beatles' Lord of the Rings dalliance, or some studio's idea to make Clockwork Orange with the Stones as Alex and his droogs.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:32am phat:

This Holy Mountain record is giving me the heebeejeebees.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:33am P-90:

I knew people, in LA in the seventies, who worked on prepping Jodorowsky's Dune. It was in the wake of Star Wars and Close Encounters, and everyone involved was swept along with Jodorowsky's vision of a film that would be like the El Topo/Holy Mountain version of a science fiction spectacle-- he would tell people the movie was going to change the world. Then the deal fell apart and the people who had prepped this, who were ready to go to France to make this once-in-lifetime epic, were distraught. One or two of them were institutionalized for depression, believe it or not
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:34am mariano:

@P-90: Wow, that would seriously have a negative effect on me too.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:35am phat:

Well, the book has been floating around in my head a lot lately. "Fear is the mind killer...".

It would make quite a good film is done correctly. Lynch was actually pretty close, but not quite.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:36am tomB:

In the mid 60s, there was mention of another film with The Stones, to be titled Only Lovers Left Alive. (But not in Detroit)
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:36am phat:

I can't think of any currently working directors with the abilities to pull it off. But there are probably a few I don't know well.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:37am phat:

I still haven't watched Jarmusch's "Only Lovers.." I've got it here...
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:37am BadGuyZero:

Wes Anderson's "Dune"
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:38am P-90:

Jodorowsky was/is apparently VERY charismatic in person. He had gotten the hippest illustrators to design the movie, all these cool actors wanted to be in it, there was this storyboard of the entire movie that blew everyone away...
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:39am phat:

paramount, apparently, had it in pre-production again until 2011. 175 page script.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:40am mariano:

That'd be a funny skit, different directors' takes on Dune! Was just reading about the Beatles' interest in LOTR. Apparently at one point Apple contacted Kubrick to see if he was interested. That would have been something! @P-90: HR Giger was involved, wasn't he?
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:41am phat:

I thought the art direction in Lynch's movie was fantastic.
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:41am P-90:

I saw literally the first 90secods of the Sci Fi Channel version- which has a good reputation with some fans- and just said "Nope"
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:43am tomB:

Let's get that script and make a home movie at Michigan Dunes (just don't point the camera toward the water). We can post it on youtube in 5 min. segments.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:44am mariano:

@phat: Yeah, I love Dune as a Lynch film, even with the Toto music. It has some of the art film elements from his early shorts, like when the Guild navigator is folding space. It's a mess, but I like watching it still, and it's interesting to see so many Lynch regulars in a scifi film.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:45am BadGuyZero:

AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHH...NUMBERS STATIONS!
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:46am phat:

lynch's was audacious, at least. and obscure.
Mon. 4/14/14 2:47am gotta go to bed:

goodnight ya'll
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:47am BadGuyZero:

Are you at a drive thru?
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:47am P-90:

Giger did designs, pre-Alien, for Dune. He basically did the Harkonnen planet and culture. Moebius, the french comic artist who was at the height of his influence at the time, also did designs, and that storyboard that everyone had orgasms over
There were other really good, successful artists and designers participating. Salvador Dali was going to play the emperor, and design his own reception-hall set for the big confrontation at the end. David Carradine was gonna play the planetary ecologist guy who plots the greening of the desert planet and becomes a prophet to the people who live there. Orson Welles was interested in playing the Baron, Jodorowsky was gonna let him direct the close-ups in his scenes, like he had done on Catch-22
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:51am nah:

I am very fond of this little seal: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:51am BadGuyZero:

Jodorowsky and Moebius collaborated on some graphic novels. Jodorowsky has also collaborated on graphic novels with Milo Manara.
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:55am BadGuyZero:

Globe of Death?
  Mon. 4/14/14 2:55am P-90:

Yeah, Jodorowsky wrote scripts for Moebius' comic "The Long Tomorrow", which "Blade Runner" and "The Fifth Element" are both basically rip-offs of (OK, "tributes")
Avatar Mon. 4/14/14 2:56am BadGuyZero:
