Glenn!

NOW it's nice here, was actually WAY too hot earlier in the day. Right now we're heading into "perfect". If my martini shaker hadn't just separated while shaking, I would be blissful. As it stands, I am sponging gin off the counter into my glass. Yep, out of gin, dogsitting 10 miles away from closest ABC (aka packy, liquor store. PLACE THAT SELLS GIN)
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:06pm Gary:

Rich!

I'm already on a tryptophan high, Gary. Never enough Turkey!

kind of miserable out but in a springlike way at least - rain and thunderstorms into Friday morning

There's an "it's all gravy from here on out" joke to be made somewhere, here, Doug ...

groovy gravy

I went to work today in a suit (sort of) and overcoat, and MAN did I regret the overcoat on the trip home.
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:12pm doca:

iyi akşamlar, Gary! I hope this is really "good evening" in turkish and not the google translator fooling around with me.
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:12pm Holly in NC:

I do not have this Erkin Koray, need to rectify.

btw, 3 goldfinches @ birdfeeder > gin malaise

It's better now!

Wavy Gravy Sullivan. You know, I lived in the Bay Area for many years and somehow never managed to run into Wavy Gravy

Condolences RE the gin, Holly! Done that too. Haroooooooo, Gary!
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:20pm Gary:

Simon!
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:20pm Holly in NC:

@Gary - I do not. I lost an indeterminate amount of wonderful things while saving a dying external drive, and I'm still trying to figure out what's what.
And definitely need to hunt down sooooo groovy Sihiribaz 7''!
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:20pm listener james from westwood:

@ndbob: surprised to see vaughn meader on the list!
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:21pm Gary:

Oh, man, Holly. Okay, I'll get you whatever you like, just lemme know!
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:21pm ndbob:

@james I was too at first - though when I thought about it, it really is an iconic recording
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:23pm pacific standard simon:

Weird -- experimenting with a non-Firefox browser due to their current controversy, and the pop-up player isn't a pop-up now; it's a new tab!
  Wed. 4/2/14 7:24pm Doug Schulkind:

I met Wavy Gravy once. He was shopping around a big coffee-table book on the "Hippie Scene," and came in for a meeting at the publishing house where I was working. It was creepily corporate for my tastes.
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:29pm Holly in NC:

@pss - I am so glad someone feels my pain. Thank you for commiserating xo

Everyone else - I am not an alcoholic! And I am sitting 3 feet away from a liquor cabinet stocked with some really fine bourbon, Irish whiskey and probably illegal rum. But when one's heart is set on the pre-prandial martini, nothing else will do. IMHO.

Also @pss - I am so pissed at Mozilla and have slacktivisted to the max, and also have really mailed folks. That said, I am still using Firefox because I love it, and ... heck. Weaning off Amazon has been so painful, I can't do everything at once. Trying.
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:31pm carol:

it's gorgeous here! 60s and sunny finally!
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:32pm glenn:

in turkish, c without a diacritical mark is pronounced like j. with the mark it's pronounced ch, as in choke.
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:32pm Gary:

That's a hilarious story, Doug ... :)
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:33pm Gary:

Thanks, Glenn -- I did manage to post a lot of the titles and names into Google translate beforehand to hear the pronunciation, but ... eh ... I will do my best!
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:35pm pacific standard simon:

It's a massive ethical dilemma, because Chrome has privacy issues, Maxthon is Chinese, and IE is, well, IE. I wouldn't blame anyone for cutting Firefox some slack on this.
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:35pm Gary:

I'm now a Google Chrome Convert
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:36pm Gary:

Ha, looks like I said that in response to Simon. Nope. No, I did not. I'm not surprised there are privacy issues with it, tho
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:43pm Holly in NC:

Not a Chrome fan. Love Firefox and all my perfect add-ons. IE of course not an option. AND today I found out that Paypal collects more data than NSA, & I have been a happy heavy Paypal user for quite some time. Nope, I didn't read the privacy update PayPal sent me Sunday, I admit it!

So.. what's for dinner everyone?
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:44pm Gary:

I'm waiting for a salad. Damn, I need to seriously consider going somewhere next week with fewer diacriticals
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:44pm ndbob:

It's a difficult issue - people do have the right to advocate political positions I despise - it's different from when, for example, someone implements those in their business - if Firefox discriminated against gay employees, I'd stop using it right away
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:44pm pacific standard simon:

I should add that I'm really digging the Turkish sounds. Every so often I'll go on a web search for oud music. I wish it looked easier to play -- I might give it a shot.
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:44pm carol:

i love chrome too. and i didnt know about the privacy issues either
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:44pm ndbob:

indeed Simon!
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:46pm carol:

Need to cook up a couple of bunches of beet greens tonight or they'll go bad.
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:47pm hyde:

man, here i am late to the party again and next thing I know there's spilled martinis, a firefox controversy I hadn't heard of and U2 is in the national registry
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:48pm ndbob:

Heya Hyde!
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:48pm Gary:

@Gary - forgot to mention that I can't stop looking at the caped gentleman @ top of playlist, especially as he appears to be hanging in the midst of a game of Jungle Jewels, which I used to love.

Currently I waste all my spare time on Doge 2048 - it's 2048, but Doge! So better!

@Holly: I mistook Doge 2048 for the name of an asteroid!
Avatar    Wed. 4/2/14 7:54pm ndbob:

I'd forgotten about Cheapo Records - I've been to the one in Moorhead MN
Avatar Wed. 4/2/14 7:54pm Holly in NC:

@pss - I LOVE love love love beet greens! Love! (and radishes) !!

@ljfw - so very understandable. much understood :-)

Dinner here w/b *huge* cheat treat for me - Trader Joe's spinach/kale pie - plus, to offset, - local dandelion greens & fresh kale, pulled pork shoulder, and surryano ham. Oh yes.

Going take the awesome Tucker & Tracker for a short 15 minute walk (their last and longer walk w/b after efd's show, I am planning well this evening) - back asap!

My friend, Mehmet Irdel, is playing a live set at the Bunker Party on May 30th (here in Brooklyn). He's done remixes for WFMU's dj /rupture etc. Sort of Turkish infected minimal techno.
