The melody of this FC is like that Martin Carthy song you played a while back, Bonny Woodhall, I think. Very nice.

Even a chance of it -- unlikely though -- here in southern Indiana, Sean. Sure hope the season changes over more fully before your visit over here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Listening
Yup. Same Carol Kaye.
  2:07pm
Mark:

Nice of you to feature some Carol Kaye. I just went to her Wikipedia page and it said she played 12-string acoustic guitar on the Mothers' "Freak Out" album. I can't think of what songs have 12-string on them. She said she played on a few tracks on "Absolutely Free," too, but quit because she found some of his lyrics offensive. She said he was good-natured and understood her feelings and they remained friends afterwards.
  2:07pm
don d:

It is Alana Amram, who is at Knitting Factory tomorrow evening!

Hi you all, spring/fall is here and there.

@Irene: this song makes me miss Paul Motian.

@kat330 exactly how I feel sometimes.
Avatar 2:29pm
kat330:

BTW, we did watch ILD yesterday. Didn't *hate* it, but some issues indeed, not least the cinematography -- so needlessly dark we thought.

This Bridget song brings to mind Judee Sill's "Lady-O"...

Nick Drake, lovely
  2:30pm
Mark:

Nick Drake was so cool...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Mike East:

@kat330 - bummer about cinematography...not usually an issue with Coen Bros. How was Nebraska?
  2:34pm
doca:

lovely nick drake. i wish i could go back in time for the first time i listened to his music.
Avatar 2:36pm
kat330:

Cinematography was a B&W issue in NB. ;) It was fine, as was "Enough Said" and "Rush" -- yeah, a marathon of viewing.
Avatar 2:41pm
kat330:

One of the best moments for me in ILD was with Sylvia Kauders (Llewyn's underperforming manager's secretary). And of course the cat. Every review talked about what a nasty d-wad Davis is, but not until near the end of the film, when he was drunk and heckling "Betty," did I think he behaved horribly or without good reason. The Carey Mulligan character kept cursing him, but she seemed equally at fault and at least as reprehensible. He's feckless, aimless and hapless, yes -- THOUGH few folks would jump through the hoops he did and genuinely care about getting a cat that had escaped through no fault of his back to his friend -- but it's also clear LD's endured a lot of sh*t already when the film begins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Irene Trudel:

Pardon my ignorance-- ILD? Que es este?
Avatar 2:44pm
kat330:

"Inside Llewyn Davis."
Avatar 2:47pm
kat330:

Sorry for all the movie talk. Thanks for your lovely sounds this day, Irene.
And to all Rams having b'days between today and next Monday, Happy Birthday to youse!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Movie talk is good... just wish I'd actually seen something lately so I could join in.
  2:52pm
Ted:

Man, Judee Sill was the best. And shockingly unheard of by so many that should.
  2:53pm
doca:

@kat330: that's fine for me, kat. i loved that movie, though it's the usual cohen brothers stuff. i liked that it shows in some way what the life of a pre-dylan folk singer was like in the 60s, i mean, all the great artists who were left behind some time of the folk revival for a talent that got beyond what everyone expected and how hard it was their lives. i found a parallel in thomas bernhard's "the loser" novel, though that one is way more bitter.
  2:54pm
don d:

Sill's 2 albums released during her lifetime deserved a lot more attention; I believe she was the 1st female artist Geffen signed and when Joni Mitchell came along, Sill was pushed aside by Geffen.
  Swag For Life Member 2:56pm
12539:

Thanks, Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Irene Trudel:

@don d, Judee's story is a sad one. But great songs. I was only vaguely aware of her when those albums first came out, She deserved better.

Hey thanks for tuning in everyone! Catch you all next week.
