A reflexive, traveling radio production. Each show is spontaneous as a backroom deal, a different guest a different location every week. Two hours of trading records with friends, programming without a prepared playlist. Actually, it goes like this: Jesse Kaminsky travels around Providence and the world with a portable radio show, visits a different person every week and makes spontaneous musical exchanges. We agree to call it radio.

Hahaha, I got the armchair!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:00pm Gary:

Beanbag!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:04pm Gary:

I need a marching Bandaid after that.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:05pm Doug Schulkind:

Don't tell Jesse I ran three minutes over or my ass will be grass. And then smoked!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:06pm Andrew Waterloo:

good evening!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Why Andrew, you look so much older and more dignified than on the previous playlist!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Jesse is so kind. On the playlist info he sent me, he included song lengths so I could now when I would have time to run for a pee. What a guy!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:12pm Gary:

Ha ha
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:13pm Doug Schulkind:

Here is your lineup on the Lacy LP:

Steve Lacy - soprano saxophone
Italo Toni - trombone
Claudio Volonte - clarinet
Irene Aebi - cello
Jacques Thollot - drums
Marcello Melis - bass
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:13pm Andrew Waterloo:

needed to hear more Steve Lacy :)
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:14pm Gary:

All the poets I know idolize Lacy, I think in great part b/c of the stuff he did with Robert Creeley
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Not sure if Lacy was yet married to Irene Aebi at the time of that recording.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:24pm Gary:

"What is a real name" :) ...

Robert Creeley: "Was that a real poem or did you just make it up?"
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Yeesh, I keep thinking I'm hearing Jesse say "de-clawed."
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:28pm Doug Schulkind:

So far, I think I'm doing a really excellent show.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:30pm northguineahills:

Leo Smith!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:31pm Doug Schulkind:

Your current album cover: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:33pm Doug Schulkind:

When I do my playlist entry, I tend to stick with what's on the LP cover. If it says "Dollar Brand" that's what I type in, not Abdullah Ibrahim. Same with Wadada/Leo Smith. Can you think of other artists whose named changed and would require this sort of playlist gymnastics?
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:35pm Gary:

Well, he's a poet, but Leroi Jones/Amiri Baraka
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:37pm Gary:

How about variations of transliteration, aka Oum Kalsoum, Om Kalthom, Umm Kulthum, etc.?
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:37pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey, friends, enjoy this radio show because, apparently, we're fucked: www.policymic.com...
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:41pm Gary:

Asalah Nasri, Asala Nasry
Kazem el Saher, Kazim al Sahir
Nagwa Karam, Najwa Karam
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:45pm Doug Schulkind:

@Gary
I'm not sure I'm going to allow different spellings. (We'd be here all night with Oum Kalsoum.) I allow the Jones/Baraka for sure. Please continue.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:45pm northguineahills:

Cha-ra-lam-bead-es. (or close to that)
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Of course, there's Maurice McIntyre/Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:46pm Andrew Waterloo:

I thought it was Char-a-lam-bid-ees
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:47pm Doug Schulkind:

Don Moyé / Famoudou Don Moyé
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:48pm Gary:

But, see, Doug: HOW DO YOU DECIDE on which one you're going to stick with for Oum? I mean, I decided long ago on Oum Kalsoum, but there is no good reason I can give for making that choice, except maybe visually it seems like the easiest to say aloud?
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:48pm Andrew Waterloo:

Also thought Kalte Sterne was "Cold Stars"
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:50pm Gary:

Andrew: It is definitely cold stars, not stern.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:51pm Andrew Waterloo:

At least I remember something from all those years following Neubauten.org
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:52pm Gary:

Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:52pm Doug Schulkind:

@Andrew Waterloo
I am but a humble messenger. Also this: www.neubauten.org...
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 7:59pm Gary:

Hey, I just Googled these guys and it says they were Smif-n-Wessun before, so maybe they qualify, Doug?
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:00pm Gary:

"these guys" = Cocoa Brovaz
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:01pm Doug Schulkind:

PLEDGE ALERT...PLEDGE ALERT...PLEDGE ALERT!
Jesse and GTDR and WFMU would like to thanks...

MICHAEL in PROVIDENCE, RI for making a pledge! This pledge came in since last week's Kaminsky Kamoutsky.

THANKS MICHAEL!

Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:20pm Gary:

I have this feeling that Jesse's got a big o' stack of old Turkish records
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Jesse has an amazing collection of Eastern European and Middle Eastern albums. He is your man for pre-rev Iranian rocknroll.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:24pm Gary:

Can we convince him to start a label?
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:27pm Doug Schulkind:

@Gary
Already there! Check out Jesse's first release: kalabandarrecords.com
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:40pm Doug Schulkind:

A few years back, DJ Monica gave everyone who pledged to her marathon show a drag queen name. You would have come equipped, Françoise!

@Jeff Golick
Nice one!

The Birth/Muslim name thing will serve up plenty.

Hey, I didn't know Rotten was Lydon's Muslim name!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Thank GOD (Yahweh) you got here, Jeff!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:41pm Jeff Golick:

Guess who's coming to dinner?
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:42pm Andrew Waterloo:

Well, that was an easy buying decision.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:42pm Jeff Golick:

(Natty dreadlocks) (www.youtube.com...)
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:43pm Doug Schulkind:

Becky Friend/Zusaan Kali Fasteau
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:44pm Jeff Golick:

Fela pre- and post-Ransome?
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:45pm Andrew Waterloo:

I wish I could remember which Oscar I won from Monica's show a couple years ago.
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:47pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes, Jeff, yes!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:52pm northguineahills:

Thanks Jesse. Awesome shit as per usual!
Avatar Tue. 3/18/14 8:52pm Doug Schulkind:

@NGH
Best kind of shit there is!
