Yip! Yip! | |
![]() |
![]() Hey, Minnesota Jeff! Are you feeling animated this evening? |
Sun. 3/31/13 12:07am
Chop Scott:
Yip Yip indeed...Cheers Joe!
![]() |
![]() Hey, 12539! Hey, Chop Scott! Hope you are all wearing it well tonight. |
![]() |
![]() Beautiful--an electronic German mid 70s paradise! Good evenin' there, Joe and Jeff and Scott and 12539!! |
Sun. 3/31/13 12:09am
Chop Scott:
My ears are fine, thanks...

A little old fashioned but that's all right.
![]() |
![]() Hey, Matt! Anybody read the Rod Stewart bio? During the marathon, Listener Tim told me it was worth a look. |
![]() |
![]() Ah, good initiative, Joe! I see that you, Ike, DCE and Cheri Pi already favorited this during Fabio's show--good of ya to bring it over here! And Happy Easter everyone!! |
![]() |
![]() Never heard of Rod's, is it an autobio? |
![]() |
![]() I assume the Rod Stewart Bio it reads like a Harlequin Romance novel, but the "Hunk" looks like a wrinkly old Aunt? |
![]() |
![]() @Matt: Keeping tabs, I see! Yes, it's Rod'a, apparently. @MJ: I'm sure it has more action than the Pete Townshend bio! |
Sun. 3/31/13 12:16am
Chop Scott:
I was in an elevator at my job with Rod S. a few years ago---very nice suit, but he was wearing slippers. Collects 19th Cent. paintings. Hunting dogs and horses. ?
![]() |
![]() Slippers. To more easily move from one bed to another... |
![]() |
![]() @Chop Scott: Ha ha! Slippers must be for a fast, quiet getaway out ladies' windows! |
![]() |
![]() Is the Townshend bio any good, despite lack of sheet-shaking? |
![]() |
Sun. 3/31/13 12:18am
G:
Slip Slidin' a Rod... |
Sun. 3/31/13 12:19am
Chop Scott:
Made we think that he really doesn't walk much past limo to door. I respect that.
![]() |
![]() @Jeff: At least Pete's should have a lot of string-shredding and finger-bleeding. |
![]() |
Sun. 3/31/13 12:19am
G:
and internet research. |
![]() |
![]() The Pete bio is kind of frustrating. He doesn't dwell so much on music as on boating and his various neuroses. |
![]() |
![]() What's on the sound agenda tonight? Sounds like it's a robot dance party. |
![]() |
![]() He does, BTW, get to go to bed with a lot of women. Just not as many as Keith or John. |
![]() |
![]() Boating? Is he a Yachtsman like Bob Seger? |
![]() |
![]() Row-but Dance Party!!! |
![]() |
![]() Yum! Thai iced tea! |
![]() |
![]() Happy creepy bunny day! |
![]() |
![]() @Matt: Liz B. pioneered the robot dance party, but I like to horn in once in a while. |
![]() |
![]() @MJ: Oh yeah, he's super into it! Keeps buying bigger and better boats. Hey, Julie! |
![]() |
![]() Row, row, row your robot |
![]() |
![]() Evening, Joe, star for the Krausend track |
![]() |
![]() Happy creepy vampire bat bunny day, Julie! |
![]() |
![]() Of course, there's this: www.buzzfeed.com... |
![]() |
![]() The bats tried to hide easter eggs, but since they were in the ceiling and high corners they kept falling and breaking |
![]() |
![]() Hey, fleep! Track of the week on WFMU! Hey, I X Key! Row-bot at sea, warning signals high. |
![]() |
![]() These Bajas only get more Bitchin as the song goes on! |
![]() |
![]() @Matt: I love this track very deeply. I hate this group's name deeply also. |
![]() |
![]() They must have used it since "Dead Milkmen" was already taken. |
![]() |
![]() Krausened almost sounds like it would be more appropos as the group name! Or else, call themselves something like "Sunset Everywhere". |

Mike Sin:
OK - just arrived home. I ready for Joe to roll this as I prepare by booze-filled chocolate bunnies for my Easter basket. Sounds smooth and sweet so far, joe McG.
![]() |
![]() @Mike you act like you don't indulge in booze-filled chocolate bunnies EVERY day. You don't fool me, MISTER |
![]() |
![]() Hey Mike! Can I stop by your pantry sometime?! ;) |
![]() |
![]() Nice way to start our Sundays, every Sunday! |
![]() |
![]() Hey, Mike Sin! Swell fill-in today for Terre T! Everybody check out Mike's archive! |
![]() |
![]() I sure will--love Mike's shows! |

Hello Joe & all other friends! Be with you soon once I make dinner. "Make" = putting a bunch of good stuff on a huge rimmed plate , filling water & wine glasses, scootching cats to side & getting in bed. And for anyone who has a sense of humor, my Easter tradition (NSFW), my hero Bill Hicks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6_sr_t8Hbg
![]() |
![]() Dang! I am "?". Comment unrelated to music being played, food, wine, cats, Bill Hicks, you probably knew |
![]() |
![]() Holly, you're so quizzical! |
![]() |
![]() @Holly: Haven't clicked on that yet, but I'm betting that's about how a goldfish should leave Lincoln Logs in your sock drawer on Easter in Australia! :) |
![]() |
![]() @Matt -yes :-) |
![]() |
![]() @Holly: One of his best! @Joe: Bla BLA! Excellent assortment of creative Brit postpunk in this block! |
![]() |
![]() yay Ooga Boogas |
![]() 'Mats are one of my faves. Interesting cover. Follow w/ new track from new ep?
![]() |
![]() This one is familiar--I've heard "I Will Dare" somewhere before. |
![]() |
![]() @dknight23: That would've been a great idea! Wish I had thought of it! |
![]() |
![]() Ah, dknight answered that for me! Thanks! |
![]() |
![]() @Matt - Me too! Can't quite place... ;-) [actually my lp beat to f*ck, & will never re-place (ha) ] |
![]() |
![]() Joe!!! I LOVE this Dancing Hoods lp! And you are probably 1 of 3 people I know who bought the lp in the 80s, way, way before Sparklehorse came to be. |
![]() |
![]() And I'm 1 of the other 2 |
![]() |
![]() @Holly: Unfortunately for Mark L., only about 3 people bought it. But I like both of their albums! |
![]() |
![]() Gahhhh I love the Softies so much. Seeing them play last April was an absolute highlight of my year. A label called "Lost Sound" has just put out a couple new Rose Melberg records which I wholly intend to pick up as soon as the second one is available again. |
![]() |
![]() @keving: I saw some video of that! How nice that they played that reunion. |
![]() |
![]() Fantastic Something...is Something Fantastic!! |
Sun. 3/31/13 1:32am
Mark from Montclair:
Nice to hear "Karen" Thanks - brings me back...
![]() |
![]() No prob, Mark! Love that song. |
Sun. 3/31/13 1:33am
Nick:
Hello! This Status Quo song is one of my favorite 60s psych songs...very underrated.
![]() |
![]() A Sin-worthy psych out! |
Sun. 3/31/13 1:34am
Nick:
I think I even have this 45. haha
![]() |
![]() Hey, Nick! I agree, I think a lot of their early material is really underrated. Right up there with Honeybus! |
![]() |
![]() Another suitably baroqueish pop single from The Toys! And YES Honeybus! I know you're a fan of them, Joe! |
![]() |
![]() Alright, after a wee run to the moon & back... cheers! |
Sun. 3/31/13 1:38am
Nick:
I haven't heard much Honeybus...I'll have to really check them out. Thanks.
![]() |
![]() -- With a lovely soundtrack thanks to Joe McGasko-- |
![]() |
![]() Aw, thanks, I X Key! |
![]() |
![]() @Nick: I think you'll dig Honeybus. Check out their album "A Story." |
![]() |
![]() I X Key! - Did you get the info I emailed you? |
![]() |
![]() Yes, thank you very much! Did I forget to get back to yuo? Hm! |
![]() |
![]() Creasy greens!! |
![]() |
![]() the ethnic grocer is like North St. here! On North St there are all kinds of different ethnic grocers! It's awesome! |
![]() |
![]() Aww, GO Wilson! Nice tribute to those departed greats of Soul! @IXK: Ethnic grocers rock! |
![]() This is an incredible record!
![]() |
![]() I agree with dknight23! |
Sun. 3/31/13 1:54am
Nick:
Joe, I'm curious (since I'm really into your random 45 segments) - did you buy any of these 45s as a teen or were these all bought once you were older?
![]() |
![]() @Nick: Most of them when I was older, but I have a few from a long time ago. I was an LP guy until I was in my 20s! Then I went single crazy. |
Sun. 3/31/13 1:57am
Nick:
haha Cool! I can completely understand.
Sun. 3/31/13 1:57am
Holly in NC:
I X Key! - mad at myself for missing farmer's mkt this am, given weathed forecast may have been last of creasy greens. Bright side means strawberries & asparagus in near future!
![]() |
![]() @Nick: I used to think LPs were a better deal: more tunes for your money! |
Sun. 3/31/13 1:59am
Holly in NC:
Every time I hear Flirtations, I marvel at northern soul perfection.
![]() I remember the Deram label.
Sun. 3/31/13 2:00am
Nick:
Holly, yeah me too! | |
![]() |
![]() @H wowie zowie yum all up! In New Zealand I saw a bus with an asparagus ad all over it once! Strawberries have more vitamin C than oranges! |
![]() Holly, I've been to the Raleigh farmer's mkt - it is amazing. Wish we had something similar here.
![]() |
![]() haven't seen fiddleheads in the supermarket yet, but it'll also be fiddlehead season soon! always excited about fiddleheads! |
Sun. 3/31/13 2:11am
Holly in NC:
@dknight - where are you? Raleigh mkt actually lot of trucked in & conventionally raised produce , products & animals, so one must be VERY wary. Durham & Carrboro both truly local & mostly best practices. Raleigh does have some great vendors, you just need to find them.
Sun. 3/31/13 2:13am
Holly in NC:
I miss fiddleheads! LL Bean canned don't cut it
![]() |
![]() I don't know what a fiddlehead is. Sounds like somebody who likes Fairport Convention concerts. |
![]() I'm in W'burg, Va., but my brother lives in Knightdale. We went @ Xmas, so I bought winter leaf-y and root veggies. I was pleased w/ my haul. Clean & fresh.
![]() |
![]() Fern sprout, which come to think of it, also sounds like somebody who likes Fairport Convention concerts. |
![]() |
![]() Hi, Joe. Just getting in from moving sidewalks. |
![]() |
![]() How did they sound, KP? |
Sun. 3/31/13 2:22am
Holly in NC:
Joe - heh. A very delicious wild fern that's hard to find as foragers need to know what they're doing - close relatives ate toxic - actually fiddleheads themselves can make you ill if not prepped correctly. But they're wonderful. A New England treat, esp up north in Maine
![]() |
![]() Fiddlehead = fern sprout, that is. |
![]() |
![]() ahahahahah! @Joe ferns early in their season that haven't opened up yet! |
![]() |
![]() Is North Korea's URL REALLY korea-dpr.com? It doesn't even have a TLD? |
![]() |
![]() Thanks for filling me in on the ferns, folks. |
![]() |
![]() It was not what I expected, even though I have the set that came out. Gibbons is the only guitar player and only singer. The other guys don't even sing backup. If it was billed as a billy gibbons solo show I would not have gone. That said, he's an exciting performer and we were right at the stage. |
![]() |
![]() @KP: That's cool. In his interview with Joe Belock, he said the other guys have kept playing all along. Were they tight? |
Sun. 3/31/13 2:33am
Holly in NC:
A gentleman by the name of Thomas Denver Jonnson does an excellent version of 'To Live is to Fly', and I know nothing else about him
Sun. 3/31/13 2:34am
Holly in NC:
@KP are you glad you went?
![]() |
![]() They were fine. Very basic. The bass was mostly root notes similar to ZZ top. The organ was good but kind of loud (I hate organ except Manzarek). The drummer was quiet. Some of their songs were kind of epic but it was all Gibbons. |
Sun. 3/31/13 2:39am
Holly in NC:
Joe, I'm loving Bobb & Kidds, never heard before!
Sun. 3/31/13 2:40am
Holly in NC:
aaaahhh! | |
![]() |
![]() Where are you, Bobbie Gentry! |
Sun. 3/31/13 2:44am
Nick:
What happened to the Kevin Ayers song you were going to play ;-) Now that you're onto the religious set, you could play Ayer's "Singing A Song In The Morning (Religious Experience)".
Sun. 3/31/13 2:45am
Holly in NC:
@KP not even, say, in background on 'Help You Ann'?
![]() |
![]() Can you get creasy greens year-round like pickled or dried or something, or only fresh in season? |
![]() |
![]() @Nick: I play Kevin every time. He's my bed music! |
Sun. 3/31/13 2:51am
Nick:
@Joe - Yes, I hear you! This song is hilarious, with the Midnight Cowboy riff.
Sun. 3/31/13 2:54am
Nick:
It just occurred to me that the mini-series The Bible - which I haven't seen, but which I've heard a lot of people talking about - was broadcast to coincide with Easter.
![]() |
![]() Creasy greens fresh only - they're like watercress (except not) ;-). But you *could* cook & freeze, like any other green. My freezer is too full of chicken bones, shrimp shells, galangal, & chia seeds. And bacon. And lard. Oh, freezer. |
![]() |
![]() Thanks for listening everybody! Have a great Sunday and a great week! |
Sun. 3/31/13 2:56am
Nick:
Thanks for another great show!
![]() |
![]() Chia seeds kept in the freezer? Should they be kept in the freezer? Our galangal is in the fridge |
