A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Morning Trouble and fellow listeners. Here's a link to a story in today's Guardian about how knitting clubs in schools are attracting 'cool' boys. Thought it'd appeal to the crafty types here and would be appropriate given the artwork: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2011/oct/17/boys-school-knitting-clubs

Jennique:
Trouble, there is small display here at AMNH that is an offshoot of the main bird hall called NEW YORK CITY BIRDS. There a couple of cases that have large white panels with local birds pinned to them that look just like your featured art piece. Only they don't have little sweaters. I think the museum should dress all the animals in all the dioramas in knitted wear.
|
Tue. 10/18/11 10:09am

Tue. 10/18/11 10:13am
trouble:
jennique, at least we can hope the birds in the winter scene diaoramas could wear sweaters. of course i could volunteer to knit them, but you know that i am a tad behind in my animal knitting...so many sweaters for man and beast alike and so little time...
|
Tue. 10/18/11 10:15am

marmalade kitty, my house is oily fish, veggies and vitamin central! and still we were all hit with this fall pestilence. not enough sleep is our problem...

|
Tue. 10/18/11 10:28am
Jennique:
Trouble - ya know, you just might have something there with the whole grant idea. If the museum has it's own origami department (which it actually does) then it surely could use a resident knitter.
|
Tue. 10/18/11 10:34am
trouble:
wow an origami department, that is amazing! you know jennique we still all talk about our lovely visit with you there, we all feel very fortunate to have had the special tour, especially dj icepack

the birds remind me of one of p.g. wodehouse's great lines " if brains were silk, he wouldn't have enough material to knit a demisole for a canary".

Whoops, meant later on in the day! It's always a learning experience with your show, discovering new artists and books. I checked out a summary of A Distant Place, will have to locate a copy. In addition to music, of course!
|
Tue. 10/18/11 11:15am
Jennique:
Moose - yes, yes I work at the AMNH. The hall of minerals has not changed, thankfully, and still has 1970's mood lighting and carpeted walls.
