A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

trouble, my wife has been knitting me this beautiful Arran sweater.......... for the last two years. It's kinda tabard right now. There is certainly a nip in the air but not chilly. The colours on the trees are enough to stop your peregrination just to take them in.

"Dark they were and golden eyed" is a great short story by Bradbury. Not sure if there's ever been a filmed version, though the story would've made a perfect Twilight Zone episode.

Tue. 10/11/11 9:43am

The colors are starting to turn down here in GA. Went apple picking last Sunday, what fun! Can't wait to do some baking with my bounty.

Tue. 10/11/11 9:44am

Ha, just googled it, and NPR did a "Bradbury 13" in 1984 with this as one episode, so that might be the source.

Brian, that is a great idea! Is it simply boiling apple pieces in water to extract the pectin? I could try my hand at jamming pears, plums and strawberries, the current fruits at my farmer's market.

Hey vivian if you are still there. Apologies had to go out suddenly. Add apples so that it helps fruit to set. It's a British obsesssion with setting. French love it runny. boil fuit & sugar together in thick bottomed pan 'till it thickens put in sterilised bottles.
