Non-commercial indie-pop-rock, but with plenty of WTF? non-sequitur delightful/irritating moments; 90% stuff we've never heard before (45% you'll hate, 45% you'll love), 10% stuff we've heard before (5% you hate, 5% you love). (29 words, 6 numbers.)

Danne D:
Booo Go Illini :) Or at least beat the Badgers so we don't miss the tourney. Btw there are just way too many cool premiums. One good solution to this problem is to pledge $3k and get EVERY premium. But pledge as much as you can. It all goes into great radio all year long. USA Hockey :( But at least Marty got some rest for the Devils stretch run :) But I digress. Pledge Pledge Pledge! Okay Joe Steele - hold down the fort would ya?

The swag is a big draw. You get a coffee cup for a $75 pledge for other...nonprofit...stations. Here you get premiums, clothing, stickers!
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:05am
JJZ:
Yeah, this year is an especially good year for premiums. I had a lot of trouble picking out my mouse pledge worth.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:06am
Joe Steele:
Other "listener supported" radio is so god awful boring when they ask you for money.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:07am
Ex-Montrealer:
Wait, you're associating Mondofrites with vomit, Bob? And now you say they're gone? What gives?
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:07am
John McCabe in LA:
hi Ken did you open my box yet?
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:07am

WFMU is responsible for about 75% of t-shirts added to my wardrobe in the past year.

Mon. 3/1/10 11:08am
X-Montrealer:
@Joe: some years it's 100% for moi

|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:09am

|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:12am
X-Montrealer:
I appreciate the clarification and recommendation, Bob.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:12am
Cecile:
God-Emperor of Dune. | |
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:13am

How does one find out what song(s) is sampled for that Noonday Underground track? I recognized some 70s prog band in there and now it is driving me crazy trying to remember.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:13am
-max-:
That's great, Cecile!! Now I love you too!!
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:14am
Ken:
Really? | |
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:15am
Cecile:
I never read the book, but I always thought that was a great job title. "I'm a plumber. What do you do?" "I'M GOD-EMPEROR OF DUNE." "Bet that pays pretty good, hey?"
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:17am
Cecile:
Of course, if you don't like it, I can think some more. thanks -max-!
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:17am
BSI:
...nobody ever pays me in gum...
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:18am
Ken:
Thanks Cecile. I prefer something else, something not sci-fi related if possible.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:19am
Cecile:
Oh, that's right. You don't like the sci-fi. *sad* *thinks*
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:20am
Joe Steele:
Fearless Leader? | |
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:21am
Cecile:
Ringmaster of the Psycho Circus, or The Prince of Parties? Fearless Leader is good, too. Or you could be Surgeon-General
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:21am
MONTREAL:
Not to be greedy but Ken/Bob is it possible to spread a mouse pledge over a few shows in order to get in the running for several give-aways?
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:22am
dc pat:
How about "Loser In Charge" (loser, in a good way) Man, gotta say, I'm a liker of the harder stuff, music-wise, but I'm really digging this show.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:23am
Cecile:
King of the Losers! From the Danny and dusty song.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:24am
Ken:
Thanks Cecile! I love Prince of Parties! Also Price of Pastries and Prince of Panties! MONTREAL! Yes, you can do that, just pledge a Mouse pledge and choose the "Prize Account" option online.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:26am
Cecile:
Prince of Parties it is!
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:28am
MONTREAL:
Thanks, Ken. Bob, does Bloodshot Bill count as a Montreal act these days? Still puts on the best show in the city.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:29am
Murdoc:
Free listen to new Gorillaz album one week before release - not sure if it is possible to stream outside of UK... http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2010/mar/01/gorillaz-plastic-beach

Mon. 3/1/10 11:30am
John McCabe in LA:
your welcome | |
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:32am
mark:
Sometimes we in Vermont go to get booze in New Hampshire at the liquor stores. Fireworks too. And recently Danny Devito was at one promoting his new brand of whatever it was. But imagine all that money spent on booze and fireworks that could go to WFMU
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:33am
The Man:
Curse you, Ken. | |
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:38am
Cecile:
whatever happened to L7?
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:39am
Cecile:
and this version is way better than theirs.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:40am
Parq:
@ Montreal: I can confirm that you can do it that way. I've done it the past couple years running. And it works! I always pick up at least a couple MC prizes.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:41am
Cecile:
I stopped doing that because I never picked up MC prizes. Because Parq was getting them all. :D
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:44am
Danne D:
Prize accounts are always fun :) Not to give away big swag secrets but there are certain times of day that are more conducive to prize winning. Just sayin'. I also tend to monitor Parq's sleeping habits, thus giving me a slightly better chance ;)
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:45am
Ken:
Curse you Danne D, revealing the secrets of the swag!
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:49am
Parq:
Geez, guys, you make me feel guilty! I'm going to do much less this year because I already made a pre-thon payment so as to do an adoption. That adoption has already proved controversial, so I will say no more.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:51am
Danne D:
ARGH!!! Actually the competition at those times is much fiercer now cuz it's drive time in Europe. Hey Ken on a side note - any idea how many different countries FMU has gotten pledges from. I imagine we have more support than the UN. Btw, Parq, I'm just kidding. It's part of the whole marathon dynamic. Win as much as you can, baby! That's what the prize account is there for :)
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:54am
Parq:
Thanks Danne. There's usually an interactive map that shows the geographic distribution of the pledge traffic. It's kinda fun. I expect this year's will be up soon.
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:55am
Danne D:
It's freeform prize-getting :) None of that rationed-out prize stuff. Btw, FMU has to totally lap the field in terms of generosity with prizes - seriously. I know about the map, Parq - it is cool :) Was figuring Ken might know the answer to my trivia. Have the axis of evil countries ever pledged?
|
Mon. 3/1/10 11:55am
marq:
Yes. The marathon is probably the most fun and exciting two weeks of the year for WFMU and listeners. But I always have such a hard time deciding when to pledge. Do I do it during a favorite show? To get some interesting swag thingy? Or do I just pledge before the marathon and forget it? These are tough things to have to think about. Or to beat JM.
