Tony, say it ain't so! Are you leaving town, a la Charlie?

Tue. 9/30/08 12:10pm From: Tony Coulter

Hello all,

Yep, today is my last-ever regular weekly show. It's been a great 18 years!

The thing is, though, I'm leaving -- but I'm not going anywhere. I'm moving to Portland (OR) sometime next year, but will be around for a good while yet -- and hopefully doing my fair share of fill-ins.

SO, please stay tuned....

Tue. 9/30/08 12:10pm From: LT

I am really sorry to hear that.

Tue. 9/30/08 12:14pm From: nna

Hatch and Tony?? How will I get through my Tuesday?

Tue. 9/30/08 12:14pm From: Bad Ronald

I'll miss you Tony.

Tue. 9/30/08 12:15pm From: PMD

So sorry you're sorta leaving (what with fill ins and whatnot). But jealous about Portland, OR...

Tue. 9/30/08 12:15pm From: jon

gonna miss ya, Tony.

Tue. 9/30/08 12:16pm From: GP

Everyone is leaving....? Is Liz at least staying around, how about Trouble...Ken? Do I need to move up there to spin some wax? Is it the end of civilisation as we know it...

Tue. 9/30/08 12:32pm From: Bad Ronald

"Sack" heh heh

Tue. 9/30/08 12:35pm From: Jonathan Steinke

Gonna miss you on the weekly tip!! Good luck and take it easy.

Tue. 9/30/08 12:40pm From: Native Portlander

Tony, here's a jump on the local pronunciation:
Or-ee-gun - especially the gun, not "gone" part.
Enjoy P-town. Gonna miss your show . . .

Tue. 9/30/08 12:43pm From: daupo

I am joining the Heartbreak Club! It's not going to be the same station without you.

All best to you on the far coast, and thanks for all the music.

Tue. 9/30/08 12:44pm From: Mark Williams

i'm gutted, Tony. Why why WHYYYYYY????

Tue. 9/30/08 12:45pm From: Republic of Pinkingshear

???? So, you could still do a few more months of shows, right? What Gives? Portland?? They may have Powell Books and Reading Frenzy but otherwise, red-necks, new-age nuts, neo-nazis, squares...You could send in pre-recorded shows...I'll miss ya too. Good luck.

Tue. 9/30/08 12:53pm From: Mark Williams

Best of luck in Portland; may all your dreams and wishes come true. We'll all be looking forward to your possible subsequent fill-in shows. Godspeed, good man.

Tue. 9/30/08 12:58pm From: larry

Tony, you have been one of the real class acts of WFMU for such a long time. I have heard more "new" (new to me) music on your show than any other. You are the consumate professional & I have enjoyed the emails we have shared over the years. You will be very much missed, first Charlie Lewis and now you...enjoy the new chapter in your life waiting for you.

Tue. 9/30/08 1:52pm From: (mta) Tony

You should have had someone there with you today to do the typing while someone else pours the Champagne, etc... You shouldn't be alone on such a day. It's so sad for so many of us, buddy. You're part of many people's lives.

Tue. 9/30/08 1:53pm From: jim frm b-burg

Tony, like Larry said, I have heard more 'new' music on your show than any other. I have been listening to fmu forever, and still hear amazing stuff on your show all the time. Your leaving will be a big loss! We ARE going to really miss it.

Tue. 9/30/08 1:57pm From: Tony Coulter

Thanks again for all the nice words!!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:06pm From: Amanda from LA

Thanks and best wishes and happy trails, Tony. I'll miss you.

Tue. 9/30/08 2:08pm From: Stoned Mellotron

TONY! I just discovered your show since moving to NYC. You will missed!Any chance your going to have a moving/record sale before the big move?

Sorry, that's not that point. the point is that you are one the best dj's in the history of the world! Have fun in Portland!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:15pm From: Lady Rachael

Tony, you are irreplaceable. It's weird how I feel like I know you simply because I've heard your voice on the radio for years. I feel like I'm not only losing a great DJ, but also a friend. Hope that's not too creepy. Good luck in Oregon!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:16pm From: jim frm b-burg

Tony, why are you moving to Portland anyway (or is that private)? Is there any chance you will be doing a show there?

Tue. 9/30/08 2:19pm From: Tony Coulter

Yeah, I'm moving for personal reasons. I do hope to get a show there, though...

Tue. 9/30/08 2:20pm From: R. P.

In the year that I've been listening to WFMU, your show has become my one of my top favorites. Your playlists embody the free-form concept. I've been looking forward to Tuesdays lately for your show and Hatch's as well. I'll miss both. You're going out with a fantastic set, too.

Tue. 9/30/08 2:24pm From: jim frm b-burg

Yes. That would be great if you get a show in Portland. I can't see your talents going to waste! You will have to let us all know if this happens so that we can listen to it on the net if possible.

Tue. 9/30/08 2:29pm From: Hooty Sapperticker

PDX is the Goods. See you at Mary's!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:31pm From: Jeff M

I've long been in awe of the sheer depth and breadth of your musical knowledge. Even though it's always a crapshoot whether I'll enjoy any particular show you do (I'm totally digging this one), I just put that down to narrowness in my tastes, rather than assuming there's anything less than excellent about your shows. It's always been great just to know you're out there discovering stuff, some of which will filter back through the general WFMU culture. So I'm selfishly sad that you'll be leaving, but I assume you have an excellent and inspiring personal reason to slope off to the other side of the country. I hope to hear more from you as you do fill-ins through the next season, but mostly... good luck!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:38pm From: Dead Corporate Eyes

unfortunately haven't had much time to listen today, but when I do I keep hearing the Germans. Good luck Tony!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:43pm From: tolberg

thanks for the great old stuff of german music!!! we are lsitening here in second life and make a party!
nice greets!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:45pm From: Tony Coulter

Late-breaking news: I'll be filling in for Irene next Monday! See you there...

Tue. 9/30/08 2:45pm From: bb

ah i absolutely love this song...do you have much info on them tony?

Tue. 9/30/08 2:46pm From: Jim Flannery

Thanks for a great run, Tony! Out here on the left coast, my Squeezebox alarm's been going off in the middle of your show since I got it, (a sometimes disorienting experience, but definitely an eye-opener). Any thoughts given to getting a show on DFM-RTV after you've made your move? They seem to work with remote djs (I know DAS has been doing a weekly show from the Bay Area).

Tue. 9/30/08 2:48pm From: jim frm b-burg

Yea! Will be listening for you on Monday!

Tue. 9/30/08 2:49pm From: Stoned Mellotron

This is some of the weirdest music I've ever heard

Tue. 9/30/08 2:52pm From: Gene K

Oh, cool.. Ein Ganz Normaler Kuss is on "Volga Selects: So young and so cold" collection, which ROCKS!

Tue. 9/30/08 3:00pm From: Harvey

Thanks you Tony!

Tue. 9/30/08 3:01pm From: C

Thanks Tony

Tue. 9/30/08 3:06pm From: Chris

Tony, I'm sad that you won't doing a weekly show anymore. Thanks for all the years of great music. And I wish you the best in OR.

Wed. 10/1/08 12:46pm From: Kay

It's no overstatement to say your program has changed my musical life. Please let us know, once moved, when you are settled and broadcasting on the web again. Until then I appreciate and encourage the fill-ins.

Hope you can at least update this page about your endeavors with pointers to new streams. (You need a website, blog, or myspace page. Else be Googleable.)

Sat. 10/25/08 4:47pm From: Dale

Dang, first I heard of this (my head has been in the sand and I lost track after the schedule change). Yours is one of my favorite programs - incredibly eclectic stuff. I've even sat in my car for a half hour listening to a set play out after I'd gotten where I was going. Guess the archives will have to do.

Tue. 11/25/08 7:13am From: Olve S.

Hi Tony!

I am from Hamburg, Germany and i want to congratulate you for your wonderful shows (and thanks to WFMU for keeping them as playlists....awesome service!!!). Like one of the previous posters, I wanted to tell you that you have changed my life as well with your mindblowing broadcasts. I think the first time I came across "Tony Coulter" was when searching the web for Xhol Caravan...and I found that amazing special broadcast. blew my mind! as well as this one....i am a musician from Germany and thought I knew a lot. half of this music is absolutely new to me, thanks. You will be sorely missed. Greetings from Hamburg, STAYFREE, OLVE
