Tue. 9/23/08 12:04pm Sean Daily:

Second comment! Woo hoo!

Tue. 9/23/08 12:06pm north guinea hills:

yaye! more kagel! we got an earful from bryce on friday! can't get enough!

Tue. 9/23/08 12:27pm snake:

Alright a Kagel tribute!!!!!Those of you who don't know his work ...prepare for some great music...Wow do I love FMU!!!

Tue. 9/23/08 12:28pm frenchee:

yes, this organ stuff is mighty mighty. And I submit to you, north g. hills: when DOESN'T Bryce give us an earful?

Tue. 9/23/08 12:29pm Sasha:

Kagel's elaborate imagination, bizarre humour and ability to play with almost any idea. RIP

Tue. 9/23/08 12:30pm Tony Coulter:

Mr. Snake, Sorry to disappoint -- but I'll only be playing one more Kagel piece after this one.

A semi-tribute, shall we say ... for one of the real greats.

Tue. 9/23/08 12:36pm Matt:

Is most of Kagel's work in print and readily available?

Tue. 9/23/08 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

A good chunk of his stuff is on CD, but a lot of his best LPs haven't been reissued yet, unfortunately. Maybe now they will be....

Tue. 9/23/08 12:52pm Jesse:

This piece, Unter Strom, seems to be among the as-yet-unreissued. It's amazing. Just out of curiosity, what's the label that released it (if you don't mind)?

Tue. 9/23/08 12:55pm Tony Coulter:

Deutsche Grammofon put it out in 1974. As I mentioned, DG reissued the A-side of the LP, but not this piece....

Tue. 9/23/08 1:00pm Jesse:

Ah, yes, I half-caught that comment. Thanks for the reiteration.

Tue. 9/23/08 1:50pm Parq:

That Mediterranean-sounding piece prompts me to mention, for those who don't know, that digitally restored prints of The Godfather I and II are unspooling this month at Film Forum in Manhattan. GF II this week, and then the two in tandem next week, with marathon double bills also on the sked. I've seen both of the new prints, and they're quite something.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:02pm Tony Coulter:

By the way, wanted to mention: No, Beefheart hasn't died. (Didn't want to scare anyone!)

Tue. 9/23/08 2:03pm Jonathan Marx:

Whew. Thanks for that, Tony.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:27pm Jim:

He hasn't put out music in years anyway.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:33pm CLUELESS:

ITS "HER MIONEE" gINGOLD

Tue. 9/23/08 2:36pm clueless:

sorry bout the caps

Tue. 9/23/08 2:37pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

It was scary, like you were yelling at everyone, and totally out of control. I hid under my desk.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:39pm clueless:

lmao

Tue. 9/23/08 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Clueless!

Tue. 9/23/08 2:49pm paul:

wow...love hearing the xian folkies. i have been diving deep, not necessarily for the love of the lord, but for financial matters. the last bastion of thrift store scoring.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:53pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

Tony, say it ain't so! You will be missed!

Tue. 9/23/08 2:54pm R. P.:

Sad news for the afternoon! Tony, i'll miss your show, it's one of my favorites on WFMU. Hope you get the opportunity to do some fill-ins.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:56pm paul:

HIS>H.I.M.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:57pm Tony Coulter:

'Tis true, I'm afraid. Next Tuesday will be my last weekly show. Hope to pop up for the occasional fill-in.

See ya next week, though...

Tue. 9/23/08 2:57pm spaniel:

Tony, you are my sweet salvation. Sorry to hear you're going. You'll be missed.

Tue. 9/23/08 2:57pm JIm frm b-burg:

Tony, if you are not going to be on next season, I am not donating to fmu..what's up?

Tue. 9/23/08 3:00pm C:

Looking forward to the fill-ins. Thanks for the always interesting music.

Tue. 9/23/08 3:02pm WinstonSmith:

Tony, Are you going to be en absentia for the next schedule change only or is it farewell to FMU? I surely hope not!

Tue. 9/23/08 3:10pm Tony Coulter:

Next Tuesday will be my last show in a regular slot. I'll be doing fill-ins, I hope, during the fall/winter, but will be moving out of the city next summer -- so I won't have another chance to get back on the schedule, unfortunately.

Many thanks for all the comments!

Wed. 9/24/08 2:07am stephen bram:

Sat. 9/27/08 10:45am Kay:

My WFMU listening experience won't be the same without you. I hope you can "mail in" some shows or find another outlet for your musical montage on the web. If so, keep us posted please and good luck with your endeavors. Very :(
