Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am David (in London):

Get the Yippers high they get hipper.
Hey Joe.
  9:02am Listener Bop Monroe:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Marley P. Dogg:

As many times as Fenton has heard the yips, he is now barking at them

  9:06am Andrew in Toronto:

Good morning Joe and all others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am zopa:

A fine use of the tambourine. Hi Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am The Oscar:

The opening set of Surface Noise always sounds different, but it's always the exact centering moment that's needed on a Monday morning. This is so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am a polished polish lady:

Good morning surfers
Avatar 9:10am Joe McG:

Ooh, I like that: "centering." Thanks, Oscar, and thanks everyone for tuning in today. Welcome to the program.
  9:11am KWilde:

Good morning Joe and fellow listeners!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Handy Haversack:

Joe, the swag arrived! I'm en-Blockheaded as we speak. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe.
Avatar 9:15am TDK60:

Morning Joe and Surfacers. They say it's Monday but I'm not so sure, it has a ring of truthiness to it, but...
Swag For Life Member 9:16am 12539:

Great big belated yips!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Brian in UK:

TDK60, it is Monday I just got a new pair of glasses.
Avatar 9:17am Joe McG:

@Handy: Great to hear! I packed it meself!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am The Oscar:

Got my Blockhead shirt as well-- I make a point of wearing it on the rare days that I leave the house!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Brian in UK:

"Whatever he (Joe) brings we listen to". Apologies to Kevin Ayres.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am YETI BOB:

blockhead shirt is so great
Avatar 9:21am TDK60:

Hi Brian in UK with the new glasses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Handy Haversack:

The extra care was clear, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am melinda:

Hired Hand score is so good
Avatar 9:22am Joe McG:

Big Secret: In the office, we all thought Sonic Bloom would be the more popular shirt of the two on offer this fall, but Blockheads was the hit. Tell me what you guys dig about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am karlward:

Mustard yellow forever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am a polished polish lady:

It's a really fun print, and on yellow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am YETI BOB:

@joe: its totally out of style, a relic from the 70s, just like me
Avatar 9:23am TDK60:

The great Bruce L. was Mr. Tambourine Man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Marley P. Dogg:

I think the block heads are so popular because they spread joy
Swag For Life Member 9:23am 12539:

Blockheads is a great color, and the art is stupidly smart.
Avatar 9:23am Joe McG:

Ha ha, Yeti Bob. I think these are all wonderful reasons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am YETI BOB:

@joe: and the JAZZ HANDS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Handy Haversack:

One reason I leaned Blockheads over Sonic Bloom is that, as lovely as the design is on SB, the details can only be seen up close and personal (i.e., well within one health-conscious JRu). Blockheads proclaims its coolness from a healthy distance and backs it up with the suggestion of actual movement.

Also: yes, JAZZ HANDS!
Swag For Life Member 9:25am 12539:

In some way the speakerheads remind me of the old Big Fig Newton commercial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Handy Haversack:

A soupçon of Kool-Aid Man as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am YETI BOB:

it's funny that we're calling them blockheads. look again - they are headless, those blocks are their bodies! wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Handy Haversack:

I think their arms and legs just grow out of their heads, YB.
Avatar 9:27am Joe McG:

Hm, Kool-Aid Man. I think you may have something there!
Avatar 9:29am wizard frog:

in light of spreading joy, I recently discovered pickled mustard seed sauce goes insanely well with baked fish and/or fried veg - and I mean *insanely* well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am YETI BOB:

also i love that they are big old heavy bulky "real" speakers ... not some dinky bluetooth toys like the kids listen to these days. (i'm listening to the station on a pair of JBL L112's)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am listener Rey:

Helo everyone! Got my swag last week and I went with Sonic Bloom shirt as the Blockheads are my sworn enemies! villains.fandom.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Cal Zone!:

Enjoyed the KB opener!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Ken From Hyde Park:

In these times of social distancing, I propose that the WFMU secret handshake be temporarily replaced by the Blockheads' knee-down, arms-out pose when we meet WFMUers in real life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Brian in UK:

Is Hermione related to Jonathan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Brian in UK:

The Al Jolson pose?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am HyperDose:

Secret handshake? Ahh you spilled the beans!
Avatar 9:33am Joe McG:

@Ken: Ken, I think you're a genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Handy Haversack:

Ken, is making it "Live Long and Prosper" JAZZ HANDS acceptable?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@YETI BOB: My speakers are made out of corian, coming in a 80 lbs. each.
Avatar 9:34am TDK60:

Ken from H.P., I've revived the old Spock salute: \\ //. Very practical in 3D life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Handy Haversack:

That's why I asked, TDK60!

\\ //_!
Avatar 9:35am Joe McG:

Ha ha ha, I remember the Blockheads! Our blockheads are friendly blockheads. At least I think they are. It's hard to tell since they have no faces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am YETI BOB:

and no heads really either
Avatar 9:35am wizard frog:

phwar, just checked out L112s / similar JBL speakers on ebay. that is some premium stuff! - though they look grand
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Brian in UK:

I loves Hildegard & her 11,000 virgins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am YETI BOB:

@wizard frog: i didn't pay that much for mine, i guess i got lucky. the ones i have are a bit beat-up (cabinets) but sound great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am YETI BOB:

found them at a secondhand shop, spent a little money getting the woofers re-foamed, but overall it was still a good deal
Avatar 9:41am Joe McG:

"I got my woofers refoamed"!
Avatar 9:41am wizard frog:

@YETI BOB: I never saw those block grills before, though may not be on the same model - look really nice - Were you unwell last week? Hope feeling better?
Avatar 9:42am wizard frog:

@Joe McG You just HAD to go there didntcha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am YETI BOB:

@wf: i've never seen those block grills either, mine are cloth. yeah, i had a rough week last week, doing a lot better today, thanks!
Avatar 9:43am wizard frog:

@YETI BOB ah that's good to hear!
Avatar 9:44am Joe McG:

Are you floating in space yet?
Avatar 9:45am Joe McG:

Ladies and gentlemen?
  9:45am morphe:

Hildegard von Bingen ... now there's a name I have not heard in many a day....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Mu Major:

Not floating in space. Maybe diving, slowly
Avatar 9:46am wizard frog:

I was gonna make a really crumby joke about how I've heard the same notes repeated over 10 times and that we may have ascended to Fabio's show but that would be way too, low brow, unfunny, inadequate to post on such an esteemed message board such as this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Four Seasons Grain & Seed:

"My God...it...it's full of stars."
Avatar 9:47am Joe McG:

This is my Fabio crossover song.
Avatar 9:48am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hi Joe, Handy, Yeti Bob, TDK60, WoodsofNH, 12539 and all!
Love this track, unsurprisingly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

I love this track but or some reason I am reminded of what my grandson told me when we were listening to some drone thing I had on: "This isn't even a _song_!" Ha.
Avatar 9:48am wizard frog:

I bet this is one of those tracks where Roy Montgomery doesn't know how to end it because he likes the loop so much.. oh, he's ended it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Handy Haversack:

Bonjour, Sylvia!
Avatar 9:49am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Phillippe Bastille:

good Monday morning! One of my favorite weeks of the year! Not because I'm a huge fan of Thanksgiving, but because I usually take part or all of Weds off so it's a 5 day weekend
Avatar 9:49am Joe McG:

I like the descending idea. I'd been thinking ascending, but I think descending down in the depths feels more right, like you've just floated past the Cocteau Twins swimming in the other direction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@Sylvia Yes!
Avatar 9:50am TDK60:

Bonjour Sylvia in France realm.
  9:50am morphe:

I believe it was Tony Coulter in his WKCR chair that turned me on to HvB..???
Avatar 9:50am Joe McG:

@wizard: False alarm! Still 5 minutes left.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am dave wuz here:

like you've just floated past the Cocteau Twins swimming in the other direction.

Avatar 9:52am Joe McG:

Normally I would "(excerpt)" something like this, but it feels nice to me, so I'm going to finish it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Happened upon a BBC article about this cellist in Ireland. Watched a few of his videos and man, really nice quarantine entertainment: www.bbc.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Handy Haversack:

It's nice when you get to relax and chat a minute, Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Deborah:

@morphe: There used to be a show on WNYC FM, Sound and Spirit Hildegard von Bingen was played frequently. Liked the show but it disappeared or morphed into the typical NPR-voiced listening miasma.
Avatar 9:53am Joe McG:

@Handy: Yeah, I don't usually have much time to talk on the board, but a 22-minute track kind of frees you up!
  9:54am WFMU listener John:

Hello fellow surface dwellers

And you have to stop the locals from killing said crazy Klaus Kinski
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

I just discovered that there's a Hildegard Von Blingin'
Avatar 10:01am TDK60:

Popol Vuh is my most recent discovery of the Germanic prog/psych world. I'm late on a lot of such discoveries. I bypassed a lot of import LPs back then, was low on dough. Still low on $ but WFMU brings the Deutsch Rawk, live/archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am The Oscar:

I can't remember which DJ it was who joked that "I'm in Love with a German Film Star" was about Klaus Kinski, but now that's all I can think about when I hear that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Booz:

First Cow is really wonderful, totally agree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am YETI BOB:

@TDK60: Are you familiar with "Agitation Free"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am The Oscar:

Before the shutdown, one of our local theaters had a promotion with a local fancy donut shop: if you brought a ticket stub for First Cow, you got a free dozen donut holes (or "oily cakes"). I wish I got a chance to take advantage. (Also agreed-- lovely little film).
Avatar 10:06am TDK60:

Yeti: No, not yet..
  10:06am ΨNs:

I did hear the change in my headphones as well...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am YETI BOB:

@TDK: Lesser known Krautrock band, they made a few records I really like.
  10:07am ΨNs:

BTW: if you enjoy Fitzcaraldo, watch the making of documentary “Burden of Dreams”. Fascinating!
Avatar 10:08am Joe McG:

Agree, a great one, as is "My Best Fiend."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am YETI BOB:

And also "My Best Fiend" on the Herzog-Kinski relationship

Avatar 10:14am Joe McG:

Ha ha, I love when people do Herzog impressions. Even I do one.
  10:14am P-90:

Herzog’s new movie is a documentary about meteorites and how cool they are. Also how they may eventually wipe out Homo sapiens and all traces of their existence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am mariano:

4Seasons: Ever see the video some clever soul made of an "Ant Man" trailer, if it had been directed by Herzog? Effing brilliant. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am YETI BOB:

I'm pretty sure even Werner himself is doing a Herzog impression by this point.
Avatar 10:15am TDK60:

Thanks Yeti! I checked and they're in the Archive, right in between Agitated Radio Pilot, and Agitator.

hello everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am karlward:

Well there you go. Dallas.
  10:34am Jay L.:

Dracula the Dirty Old Man is godawful. The vampire ties women up and bites them on the breasts, and, from the sound of dialogue, they added it in post-production, riffing as they went. And there's a werewolf.
  10:35am Donna:

ooooooohhhhh love to love you joey.....
  10:36am Peter Melnick:

Is the werewolf just there hanging out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am mariano:

Sheila B: It can be called "What's the Story, Moaning Glory?"

No need to call security, I'll walk out on my own two feet thank you.
Avatar 10:38am johnc:

haha one of my favorite all time songs! Did not expect to hear that. Thanks Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am The Oscar:

Never seen Dracula the Dirty Old Man, but I have seen Deafula, an astounding no-budget vampire movie from the '70s performed entirely in American Sign Language. For obvious reasons, I don't suspect a soundtrack release is forthcoming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Matt Fiveash:

Wow this Vladimir Putin cover is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am PaulRobeson1920:

“Fillin' the front of my shirt with drool I'm a dirty old man (dirty old man, dirty old man)
Nervously wiggling my toes in my boots! Communist literature in my hands...”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Handy Haversack:

And I'm back! At least until the 11:30 meeting.

Good moaning, Mariano.
  10:40am Jay L.:

The werewolf attacks a woman in her apartment, has sex with her. It's a nasty nudie-roughie scene. Not sure how it furthers the story. But then, nothing in the film really advances the story, other than "This is Dracula. . . . He's a dirty old man . . . . The End."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am mariano:

Oh, what a beautiful moaning, Handy!
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

@MF: He's seriously underrated.

What was that one vampire parody where a guy holds up a crucifix and the vampire says something like "Puh-leeze. I'm Jewish." I have a memory of that scene but have never been able to track it down.
