@Quack I did run into an odd problem where it kept signing me out?? which looks like what it's doing to you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Cal Zone!:

I have lots of problems with the Android App (frequent crashes)...but commenting is not one of them.
  9:46am Jon:

iOS is working well, Quack

Avatar 9:48am Joe McG:

Hey Pete! You could jangle right along with this batch!
  9:49am Quack:

@Martininibomb. doesn't sign me out, in fact the Android version doesn't have a way to sign in, I just have to retype my name in everytime I post which gets annoying. my friend using iphone can sign in, but I don't have the option. it's weird. otherwise, posting doesn't always want to work
  9:49am pgalub:

Indeed, I am! ;)

I wonder when the Jangle Pop UK compilation will come out. Spearheaded by the Smiths, of course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...course long had Beatles & bYRdS in my heart before REM became synonymous with bitterwsweet Leaving Home & the rise of Alt out of College Radio...
  9:53am Brian in garden:

McGuinn first turned my head in '65 but there might be a case for the Searchers being the first to jangle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Cal Zone!:

I'm hoping that somebody is working on an updated WFMU Android app. One that doesnt crash and syncs with Android Auto so that I can see playlist when driving. Joe, do you know if anything is in the works?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sure. Well McGuinn makes the point The Beatles were already there. George's 12-String on 'Hard Day's Night' - a major highlight of the 2009 Remasters...
Avatar 9:55am Rev. Turnip Druid:

mornin, troops
Avatar 9:56am Joe McG:

@Will: I feel that the UK jangle has been better compiled already than the US version. @Cal Zone!: I'll run it up the flagpole after the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Cal Zone!:

TY Joe!

That Hen Ogledd was most intriguing! In a good way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Speaking of Wyatt, I recently read a book on the history of prog rock. Holy smokes, the egos!! The excess!! Kinda fun.
Avatar 10:25am Joe McG:

@SheilaB: It's really a very nice pop song, I think!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Handy Haversack:

What book, Woods?
Avatar 10:26am Rich in Bristol:

It's thanks to the BBC's Marc Riley that I was introduced to the brilliant Richard Dawson. I'm thoroughly pleased to hear him on your show, too, Joe.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Stanley:

Punk rock was propelled into existence by the excesses of prog. I believe it was Rick Wakeman's King Arthur on ice at Wembly Arena in 1975 that did it.

What a quiet little ripper...
  10:47am Dean:

The only overt mockery of prog rock I can think of in punk is the the Germs' "No God," which starts out with the introductory lick from Yes's "Roundabout," then takes off in another direction entirely.

Hi all. Did someone on FMU used to play this Eruption as a slow 45 for bed music? SM Ken maybe? It sounds *too fast* now so that's why I wonder if somebody repeatedly played it at a slow speed before.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@Handy I got the book because there are some prog bands that I don't know much about (Soft Machine for one). Some of it was depressing...seeing the record companies pushing various incarnations of Yes to make fairly dull music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Krys O.:

Was a huge fan of Rick Wakeman back in the day. Listened to Six Wives of Henry VIII and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Haven't heard them in many decades.

@Handy Depends on how music nerdy it is. I'm a musician but I recently read a book about Pat Metheny's ECM years and it wasted a pile of text completely taking apart song structures, key changes, modes, etc. Not what I was there for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Handy Haversack:

I'll rouse the brood, Joe, and direct their attention Surface Noise-ward.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am YETI BOB:

Bruford-era Yes is hard to dis. I'm fond of Tales, too. Pretty much the poster child for prog excess.

@Hubig Pie, agreed, and you don't hear this Dylan tune covered much. Sounding great in Dean's hands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am YETI BOB:

@Tim: I saw a different list he made years ago and either "Pink Flag" or "154" was at the top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am tim from champaign (now washington):

I listened to Rough and Rowdy Ways last week. I was a bit underwhelmed. It's a perfectly listenable and respectable album but it's been hyped as one of Dylan's best. I was expecting something along the lines of Desire or Oh Mercy.
Avatar 11:35am Brian in UK:

Dean, have you heard The Wondermints song 'In and Around Greg Lake'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am tim from champaign (now washington):

@Yeti - yeah, I remember an interview with Pollard where he said Wire was a major inspiration for fitting 20 songs on an album side.
  11:36am Dean:

Brian in UK, I have at least heard of it, and thanks for reminding me of that marvelous title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am YETI BOB:

"After much deliberation and meditation and listening, I’ve decided that the greatest album of all time is Wire, 154. Yeah. That’s not even a top-20 band, but that’s the greatest album. I grew up very punk-influenced (100% Ramones fan) and believed in that whole "Bloated corpse of prog rock must be killed off" idea. But now I understand how absolutely great King Crimson were (and still are!)

I know what you mean, Yeti. I find the Sex Pistols to be a perfectly decent rock band but nothing as inspirational as the Ramones. Over the years, I've found the first 3 PiL records to be way more inspirational to me than the Sex Pistols.
