Good evening.
Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Ira:

Just you and me, Uncle Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Uncle Michael:

More for us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm spodiodi:

hi Ira, UM and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Uncle Michael:

hey, spode
Avatar 9:04pm Jedley:

<stays very very still>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm mariano:

Hey Ira, Crew, everyone! This is great, the second version of "Reconsider Me" I've heard on FMU, aside from Johnny Adams' version I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Fuzzy:

Hello everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Spinning Giant:

love love love this cut! first heard it as part of one of the annual Oxford American Southern Music compilations - soooo good! Hello Ira and all the Iraneers :D
Avatar 9:05pm TDK60:

Following in the door, 6 feet behind..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Uncle Michael:

This sounds like it shoulda been a Candi Staton version but Margaret beat her to it.
Avatar 9:07pm Jedley:

Is it live or is it Memorex?
Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Ira:

@Jedley: If you could see my hair you . . . wouldn't know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Spinning Giant:

...or should it be Iranears...?...EARS...get it? guffaw chortle chortle...sorry, I am bombarded by my 9 year old son's relentless punnery all-day long :$ he's just like my dad - so there's that...

[...or Iranauts...?]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Uncle Michael:

It takes hours to get your hair like that, Ira. AmIright?
Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Ira:

@Uncle Michael: It's taken 63 years, and counting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Uncle Michael:

Well, don't give up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Spinning Giant:

I think my hair is as long as it's ever been...unintentional Covid bonus - I said I was never going to grow it out again...too much trouble...now I'm thinking I might go for full-on Willie Nelson style hip-length braided ponytail...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Spinning Giant:

UM & IK - the banter is bonafide - chortling away over here... cheers, fellas...hey, you should have a show or something! LoL - like together - like Johnny & Ed...or Conan & Andy...or George & Gracie...or...or...or...
  9:13pm postess:

@Spinning Giant, I just got the Oxford American Southern Music Issue and there’s no CD! It has smartphone-readable codes for streaming on Spotify...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Uncle Michael:

Sacco and Vanzetti?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Spinning Giant:

@postess - that sucks - I have not got the latest yet - I like having my own copy to do with what I want - what if you aren't on Spotify? that's a bit lame...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Spinning Giant:

Uncle Michael - I'm going to have to D-D-G that...
Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Ira:

I don't want to come off all braggy, but I'm confident that Uncle Michael and I are at least as funny as Sacco and Vanzetti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Uncle Michael:

False modesty is unbecoming. I'm with you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm YETI BOB:

@mariano, cØ: Here's one you can actually see... I knew I remembered this being in the news a while ago. www.navytimes.com... Sky penis!

@Ira: Sorry for continuing this topic on your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Uncle Michael:

I saw David Nance in Omaha a year ago, May. It was in a very tiny dive. It was great fun. For some reason I felt like not bothering him to say hello and compliment the music. Seems silly.
Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Ira:

I admit I was not expecting the words "sky" and "penis" on tonight's comments board, let alone together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Uncle Sky Penis:

Dibs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm spodiodi:

YETI BOB, that has the link i posted at Bethany's playlist beat by ~ a year. i wonder when it all began
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Spinning Giant:

  9:20pm KWilde:

There was some sort of docking going on last night
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm McGroovey:

I wasn't expecting to see the word "cowpoke" here tonight, but you just never can know what to expect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm spodiodi:

*shrug guy*
Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Ira:

I'm hardly the toughest sell on box set bonus cuts, but I have to say one of the best was the Eric Burdon and the Animals outtake Sky Penis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Spinning Giant:

Someone should copyright/trademark that and sell it before Marvel or DC gets their greedy clutches on it!!!
  9:22pm Guy de la Shrüg:

🤷
Avatar 9:22pm Hams:

is sky penis like a double rainbow or something?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Uncle Michael:

I believe Burdon dropping acid was not boon to the world of music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Little Danny:

Ah crud I keep forgetting to check out this new Bats album
Avatar 9:23pm John from NP:

Does that really say "Sky Penis"?? You know you have to play it now, Ira.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Little Danny:

@UM: I blame Monterey the song, and festival. "Girl Named Sandoz" was a bit on the nose, too.
Avatar 9:24pm John from NP:

@Spinning Giant Sky Penis™
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Spinning Giant:

...is this from the soundtrack of the Sky Penis movie...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Uncle Michael:

Those are two pieces of supporting evidence for my belief, Danny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Little Danny:

www.mic.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Spinning Giant:

@John from NP - Touche! (I don't know how to do the fancy french 'E" let alone the TM symbol LoL
Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Ira:

@John from NP: Wish I could. As a substitute, I will reminisce about an amazing version of "Sky Pilot" I got to hear Dredd Foole and the Din play at the Rat, back when The Din = Mission of Burma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Spinning Giant:

@Ira - that sounds fantastic
Avatar 9:29pm Abbie from Mars:

WHoa I really like this track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm mariano:

YETI BOB: Haha!

For those of you who weren't here for Bethany's show, I posted this glorious headline I found in the NY Daily News: "NYPD trial begins for pilot accused of flying surveillance plane in penis-shaped route." Now I want to do a cover of "Heart Shaped Box" called "Dick Shaped Route."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Uncle Michael:

I'm trying to imagine who I'd like to hear cover "San Franciscan Nights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Little Danny:

No one is the answer UM
  9:30pm rich the greeb:

I’ve been locked inside your dick shaped route for weeks. Ehhhh I dunno
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm mariano:

"Goin' on up to the penis in the sky (in the sky!)
It's where I wanna go when I die..."
Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Ira:

@Mariano: What's he charged with???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Uncle Michael:

I'm with Abbie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Uncle Michael:

Taking the lord's penis in vain.
Avatar 9:32pm Jedley:

Very Public Exposure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm spodiodi:

uh oh *braces for pun impact*
  9:33pm WFMU listener john:

Hello fellow listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm mariano:

Ira: Uh, penisary maneuvers without authorization, I think the lawyers call it?

Here, since we're on the theme, this is a completely unaltered pic of a cappuccino I got a few years back at the Blue Bottle in the Rock Ctr concourse: drive.google.com...
  9:33pm rich the greeb:

Indecent moisture
Avatar 9:33pm John L:

"penis in the sky...with diamonds." mariano, I was gonna use Norman Greenbaum, too. Missed it by just a few inches.
  9:34pm BH:

good evening, today has probably been a wild evening for people living and dying on the cable news/twitter rollercoaster?
  9:34pm Jacki:

what's feeling like yourself....i've never felt that way in my life...these times or past...are you sure?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm mariano:

John L: you gotta work long and hard to beat me to the punch ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm spodiodi:

straighten up, fly right
Avatar 9:37pm John from NP:

That sounds like a good-enough substitute Ira!
Avatar 9:38pm John from NP:

  9:46pm WFMU listener john:

@Mariano did they do hard time:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Spinning Giant:

which record is this version from, Ira?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm mariano:

WFMUL John: Haha! Yes, convicted of armed throbbery.

Ok, I'm getting banned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm McGroovey:

I love Gordon Lightfoot but he (and Neil Young) make my wife feel like jumping out the window if I play them too much. Canadians.
Avatar 9:50pm John from NP:

Happy birthday Danny DeVito and DeVoe from Bell Biv DeVoe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Little Danny:

Just Lou and Mo? What year was this version recorded?
Avatar 9:50pm John L:

mariano, that's not what I heard. I heard they got off.
Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Ira:

It's from the Matrix collection. Low in the mix is Doug Yule going wild on bass.
  9:51pm WFMU listener john:

@mariano just spit soda out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Little Danny:

Ah okay, thanks! Woulda guessed much later, like a one-off "reunion" or some such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Little Danny:

Loved the previous track, too. Björn Olsson vibes.
Avatar 9:57pm John L:

I forgot it was Scorsese's birthday. I just finished the new book Made Men: The Story Of Goodfellas. A must-read for any Scorsese fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm mariano:

Lol John L!

Sorry WoofMoo John :)
  10:03pm jonny:

a happy birthday to Bob Gaudio..a member of the Four Seasons...and production extradionaire for the epic album..The Genuine ImitationLife Gazette...may be better than Sgt. Peppers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Uncle Michael:

Certainly my favorite Four Seasons record. When I need a Gaudio fix I go to Sinatra's Watertown.
  10:06pm jonny:

beautiful comment Uncle......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Kat in Chicago:

Just came over here from the Drummer stream, not expecting that a quick review of Ira's comments board would result in my hearing Eric Burdon bellowing "SKYYYYY PE-NIS!" in my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Uncle Michael:

talk about an ear worm
Avatar 10:09pm Jedley:

@Kat it's always when you least expect it
  10:09pm Joeybug69:

Just dropped in for my aerial phallus fix. At least not all of our tax dollars are being wasted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Spinning Giant:

Aerial Phallus!!! HaaaaaaaaHHHH <===3
Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Ira:

@Kat: No need to thank me. Oh, that's right--you didn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Uncle Michael:

I'm going to thank you, Ira...as though it's an hour and 47 minutes from now, as my upright time is coming to an end. Lullaby me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm mariano:

I'm ultimately responsible for promulgating this phallacy...

'Night Uncle Michael!
Avatar 10:15pm Hams:

ira, i use to see you at film forum all the time. i worked there for 3yrs. i would see like 5-7 movies a week, free all around the city. ah, the good ol' days..
Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Ira:

Goodnight, Uncle Michael. Thanks for dropping by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm spodiodi:

night, UM
  10:16pm jonny:

Thanks Uncle...you know Bob Gaudio....and appreciate great music...
  10:16pm Joeybug69:

I did used to watch Sky King and Sgt. Preston of the Yukon before Uncle Floyd on the UHF back when. (And I confess to having that sky penis image saved on this very phone from when I first saw that news report last year or so. Never know when I may need it for something.)
Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Ira:

@Hams: I get those virtual Film Forum emails and it drives me nuts. How I miss going to the movies! Film Forum at the top of the list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Uncle Michael:

night all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Spinning Giant:

bon soir Oncle Michel!
Avatar 10:19pm Hams:

yep, it was a unique place. i had a whole circle of friends that evolved from there. i feel sorry for the old diehard regulars that can't attend a screening at the forum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm jillydg:

Dig that Benny Bennett! I must look into him. Very old school Bond movie sound. Thanks Ira.
Avatar 10:20pm Hams:

i have now discovered cinephobe.com, though. wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Kat in Chicago:

Fabio has been talking up cinephobe a lot, I keep forgetting to check it out. time to open yet another browser tab
Avatar 10:21pm slugluv1313:

@ Kat in Chicago -- hah! was away from the computer, when i caught up with the comments, i started hearing a demented reworking of "Dick in a Box" in my head :)

Hams- when did you work at FF? I did two separate stints there in the '90s...
  10:26pm Joeybug69:

@Hams: my old buddy Seth Fahey used to work there, I believe. Ring any bells?
  10:27pm Rick G:

Greetings Ira and listeners. Happy to be here for the second half!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm mariano:

slugluv: "One: cut a hole in the box..."
Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Ira:

@Rick G: Welcome. Depending on how you feel about the concept of a "sky penis," you might or might not want to check out the comments from earlier in the evening.
Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Ira:

@Matt Fiveash: How did I not know (remember) you worked at FF?
Avatar 10:34pm slugluv1313:

DAMN! i miss Film Forum too! and just going to the movies in general . . . a few weeks ago, Fabio was talking about how when you go to a theater to watch a film, you are immersed in the whole experience . . . cinephobe looks freaking awesome! just hard to watch stuff at home -- interruptions/distractions. etc. :(
Avatar 10:35pm slugluv1313:

@mariano -- hah! cut a hole in the sky???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Kat in Chicago:

cut a hole in the clouds?
Avatar 10:37pm Hams:

joeybug, didn't know a seth. i was there 2011 to about 2015. and then 10 days last year when i broke my arm.
  10:37pm Rick G:

Feisty banter tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm mariano:

One of the joys of life when I was in NYC was going to weekday afternoon shows at Film Forum when there was hardly any crowd. Discovered so many great movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm mariano:

Lol slugluv!
  10:39pm Joeybug69:

Ah, this was back in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s. Yeah, great place. 8th St. Playhouse, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Matt Fiveash:

Ira- it may not have ever come up! Both stints were pretty brief.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm mariano:

Dali was great when he was the mystery guest on this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm Kat in Chicago:

Never would have guessed!
  10:42pm BH:

Efforts are being made around here to lure a possum out of the garage. This feels oddly relevant to the situation going on with a certain person on his way out in January
Avatar 10:42pm Hams:

i helped wheel out the wax statue of melvin van peebles prior to his Q/A. for the inauguration of the melvin van peebles lobby at the forum.
  10:42pm Joeybug69:

Werner Klemperer on my TV & WFMU simultaneously! Serendipity.
Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Ira:

Testing . . . testing . . . I lost the ability to comment for a while. You guys missed some GEMS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Kat in Chicago:

Let us know what succeeds in luring the possum, BH, maybe we can try it on the other guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Matt Fiveash:

My favorite part of that job was flipping the light switch that turned the seat zappers on and off when they would show "The Tingler"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Kat in Chicago:

Jeff Lescher! is this new? I was a huge Green fan for a while but I haven't seen Jeff in... decades?
Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Ira:

@Kat: It's on the bandcamp. Yes, it's new.
Avatar 10:50pm slugluv1313:

@Joeybug69 -- 8th Street Playhouse, Theatre 80 (when they showed films!), The Thalia, Bleecker Street Cinema, St. Marks Theater . . . i was still in college late 70s/early 80s -- if i had a day off, was fun to go to the movies in the middle of the day -- like @mariano says, no crowds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm McGroovey:

Jeff Lescher sure knows his way (all the way) around a melody. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Ira:

I saw You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown at Theatre 80.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Kat in Chicago:

Found it, thank you, Ira.
Avatar 10:53pm slugluv1313:

@BH -- i think possums like cat food? wet or dry . . . i noticed this when i would feed feral colonies, sometimes a possum would be nibbling on their food :)
they are cuties! somewhat odd looking creatures, but still adorable, IMHO (and NOTHING like the doofus in DC!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm mariano:

Ira: In 5th grade the school play was "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" and we HAD to be in the goddamn chorus. Dressed like dogs, singing "It's Supper Time." Yes, I was a 5th-grade furry.
Avatar 10:54pm slugluv1313:

@ Ira -- WOW!
i recall seeing a lot of old black and white films there -- double features!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Chop Scott:

Your programs are fantastic Ira-thanks for being here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Kat in Chicago:

My downstairs neighbor used to put food out at her back door for the ferals that lived in the alley. I was bringing my laundry down to the basement one early evening and encountered a very surprised and scared possum, which made a pathetic attempt to hide behind a box in the corner. I took my laundry back up and waited a bit so it could leave.
Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Ira:

More on Charlie Brown: My family tried to get tickets for it for my birthday, but we were too late, and it was sold out. Bought tickets for my brother's birthday, months later. Instead of Charlie Brown, my birthday was Your Own Thing, a rock musical adaptation of Twelfth Night. Very groovy.
  10:57pm Joeybug69:

@slugluv1313 I briefly worked at the St. Mark’s maybe ‘81? A great thrill when they’d send me somewhere in Brooklyn to pick up the reels in those cool cans.
Avatar 10:57pm slugluv1313:

when i was a kid, Life magazine did a story on "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" when it was on Broadway -- my little kid brain did not get why the dude who played Charlie Brown did not LOOK like Charlie Brown at all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good evening, Ira and radio pirates.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Kat in Chicago:

I was involved in a college production of "Charlie Brown" - ran lights or something. My new earworm is our bawdy rewrite of the title tune...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm coelacanth∅:

mariano, our whole class was drafted into the plays every year. i don't remember much singing, if any. but year after year i'd freeze and forget most of my lines
(i wouldn't have if they were in the context of singing in a chorus)
  10:59pm Joeybug69:

And I used to live at #76 just next to Theatre 80. So much fun darting out in a snowstorm to watch Maltese Falcon or a Thin Man or Marx Brothers.

slugluv1313: the possum is in the garage because the night time HQ of one of the feral cats.. so the plan involves watermelon just outside of the garage, and if he comes out for that, remotely closing the garage door behind him

Avatar 11:08pm slugluv1313:

Good Grief indeed!
