Dutch beat, rock and pop, roughly between 1960 - 1980. We not only focus on shocking blue earrings washing up the sandy coast after tea, but we're also getting our shoes wet digging up nits from a kayak with our supersister

Avatar 12:45pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Oh wow, this achaic pronounciation of Dutch is killing me.
Avatar 12:48pm worldsworstrecords:

Very Shadows/ventures-esque
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Julio Eclectias:

haha, I'm hearing it so much while digging into these recordings that I don't even notice anymore, but you're right, a lot has changed in a relatively short time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Julio Eclectias:

And very Tielman Brotherish
Avatar 12:49pm Paper Kosmonaut:

@ WWR: The Explosions is a rather more exciting name though,
Avatar 12:49pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar 12:49pm worldsworstrecords:

Absolutely, PK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Julio Eclectias:

I suspected you would like this one, Darryl. :-)
Avatar 12:51pm Paper Kosmonaut:

This song also lacks all the Elvish schwung. It is very netjes.
Avatar 12:53pm worldsworstrecords:

You were right, Jan/Julio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Julio Eclectias:

Yes, the Fouryo's were far too netjes. They finally found out, when they opened for The Stones in 64 and called it quits...
Avatar 12:54pm Paper Kosmonaut:

The bashing orchestra. Before this show I have never heard of 'em. I like it.
LOL @Jan!
Avatar 12:55pm Mr Fab:

Hi Jan, and posse. That’s interesting, Dutch has changed that much just since the ‘60s? I don’t hear English changing much. Of course, slang comes and goes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Julio Eclectias:

Can you just imagine and audience expecting The Stones and getting The Fouryo's first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Julio Eclectias:

Yes, the pronunciation on national radio and TV has changed dramatically and also the average youngsters speak very differently from 40 years ago.
Avatar 12:59pm Paper Kosmonaut:

@mr. Fab, Yes, pronounciation here in Dutchyland has changed a lot. More letters were 'swallowed' at the end of words, ("Lopen" became more like "Lope-") Diphthongs were shifted from clean sounds to contaminated with even more vowels. "ei" became closer to "aai" en "ou" shifted to "aauw" It is ugly and sharp. The old pronounciation is sounding very dated, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Julio Eclectias:

Hi Mr Fab, btw. What has happened to my manners...
Avatar 1:02pm worldsworstrecords:

I take it from the images on the sleeves that at some point the Fouryo's became the Threeyo's...
Avatar 1:03pm Paper Kosmonaut:

@WWR: number four is in that box. Was too ugly for the pic.
Avatar 1:04pm worldsworstrecords:

hahaha, of course PK!
Avatar 1:04pm Mr Fab:

Avatar 1:05pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm sure this song would work better in their native language...
Avatar 1:05pm Paper Kosmonaut:

@ Mr. Fab: en.wikipedia.org...

He dead.
Avatar 1:07pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Albertus Petrus Enricus Gerardus Westelaken (2 September 1949 – 4 June 2015), better known by his stage name Albert West, was a Dutch pop singer and record producer. He was the lead singer of The Shuffles from 1963 to 1973. He was born in 's-Hertogenbosch, North Brabant.

Avatar 1:13pm Paper Kosmonaut:

The Dutch were really quite good with Prog. I keep on being surprised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Julio Eclectias:

Yes, Once we got the hang of it, ;-)
Avatar 1:17pm Mr Fab:

Yes, prog grew from European classical influences, I think, so if you were raised in Europe you kind of had that in your blood. Unlike American prog, stuff like Zappa came more out of jazz and avant-garde.
Avatar 1:20pm Paper Kosmonaut:

nice analysis. Mr. Fab.
Avatar 1:21pm Paper Kosmonaut:

I get some Reggie Watts vibes here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Julio Eclectias:

Yes, the Tielman Brothers already released their 18th century rock in 1960, so I mustn't downplay The Dutch efforts to integrate classical music into rock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

this is fun! reminded me of Negativland for a second
