  9:55pm ami ad:

@Fox:Got a new dishwasher?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Fox:

I put the bassy big old speakers in the attic to not bother my neighbors, but I really wish I had little speakers in the corners of my art and living room, so I had the stereo effect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm chresti:

Hi Fox, head/earphones are pretty swell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Fox:

Ami - I do, but he didn't hook it up. So it's here, it just doesnt' work yet. But then, I am still $450 short for last month's rent. So.... not complaining.
Avatar 9:56pm spacecowboy:

@ami--There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said sympathetically. "Maybe," the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed. "Maybe," replied the old man.

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "Maybe," answered the farmer.

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. "Maybe," said the farmer.
  9:56pm jeff-m:

interesting. Leaf is still around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Fox:

chresti - I do headphones of podcasts, but for music, I start to get too paranoid to have headphones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Fox:

spacecowboy - Allan Watts tells that story. He does so with the greatest smoker's laugh. I love it.
  9:59pm ami ad:

@ spacecowboy:thank you, maybe. that vodka shot did not end well. cheers.
  10:00pm ami ad:

Avatar 10:01pm javakid:

Daniel, thank you for reminding me how much I enjoy Murcof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Fox:

Ami - I do! My hands don't work so great with fine tuned grabbing things. They are clumsy and don't work so great. Especially in the heat. Dishes and using knives with cooking are my most hated activities. I'd rather clean toilets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Petricole:

Late to comment, been lurkin. Had something of a garbage heap of a week and this set is hitting the spot. Gratitude to you Daniel Blumin and Skeleton Scott, and greetings to all Filet Blumignons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Chop Scott:

Wunderschnapps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Fox:

Hey Jeff! You would know if this was a thing. Is there a practice/method of attaching a bass amp up high, so that you don't bother your downstairs neighbor?

I'm on the top floor, and I love bass, but I want to be considerate of those downstairs. So if I got those speakers you put in the corners of the room, and attached them from the ceiling, could I do that with the bass?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well I think I'm too damn late for the comet or something - or just too bright even here

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm sinister dexter:

@Fox , hey Fox you still got those tapes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm anne:

that was an awesome show. I envied being the daughter :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm chresti:

Hmm, the further away from the floor, the less goes downstairs? @Fox
Avatar 10:10pm TDK60:

I found several cassettes today at one of those outdoor little libraries. May tape over 'em..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Fox:

sinister - Sadly, no. I wish I did. I think they are all lost to time. At some point I think I had most of them in digital format and thought I didn't need such clutter in my life. I wish Id' kept all my tapes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Fox:

chresti - I mean, that's the theory. Not having the bass vibrating right against their ceiling, less vibrations will reach them, and vibration = sounds, so less sound for them to suffer through.
  10:13pm ami ad:

@Fox:Dishwasher you need indeed. Can i ask you for a favor? check craigslist nyc jobs, and see if anything is flagged?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Uncle Michael:

Fox, if the subwoofer isn't in contact with the floor, the amount of sound transmitted through the floor will be reduced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm sinister dexter:

@Fox i got an idea for some music , wanted to stay away from digital
  10:14pm jeff-m:

um, im not sure really. You wrote bass amp, but you mean speakers? or both? Bass and is prob an issue. You could do those satellite style speakers, but they normally come with subwooker as part of their setup.

lining really just for the picture: https://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PGLS300
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Fox:

I wish there was a bass-only bluetooth device that just sits at the bones behind your ears and compensates for thin sound systems with body bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Fox:

Jeff - Yessssss! sorry, I mean subwoofer.
  10:15pm jeff-m:

linking*

that's an option, but kinda part of a more substantial setup. Prices are everywhere. I'm just linking it for the picture reference so you see what i mean
  10:16pm ami ad:

@Fox:Elon Smuk has a plan for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Fox:

Thank you Uncle Michael! That's what I thought. Good to know that your expertise agrees!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Fox:

@Ami - I'm sure he does.

Am I the only one who sees Elon Musk as the Kanye of tech?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Fox:

Jeff - Oooooh, pretty!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Uncle Michael:

I bought one of my subs (no wisecracks) fro Parts Express. They offer great value for money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...floors & same for walls - put your speakers on stilts with no contact with anything...
Was really getting into Audio Dharma for Buddhism - frequent podcasts from a west coast place - but oddly in quarantine with all the time in the world I got completely distracted from them...should get back to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Fox:

I will look that up, Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Uncle Michael:

www.parts-express.com...

They come in other sizes as well. this one is pretty small, 8".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Fox - There was the Bone Fone at one time. I don't know if a modern counterpart exists. blog.modernmechanix.com...
  10:20pm jeff-m:

you can make your own stands too and there are examples everywhere of fancy to budget. Pretty simple really if you have have a few basic woodworking skills or soemone who does

I guess the subwoofer if not placed on the floor reduces the bass you will hear too. Volume and Bass are a pain in butt in an Apt. thankfully i live where i can blast music at like 4 am if i want.
Having said all that, i listen so often just on my laptop anyway sadly... Hence why im so busy chatting away tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Fox:

So, this brings me to my other issue.... how much money should I be giving to my landlord, proportionately, if I only get $830 a month on Disability, and my apartment costs $1450, but also, one of the bedroom is an illegal bedroom and my building has mold, but I also want my landlord to fix my dishwasher and not destroy my credit score?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Fox:

gasp!!!! Jeff I am SHOCKED that you listen to music on your laptop!! I mean, I do that, but I feel so guilty when I do.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Fox:

Ken - YESSSSSSS I want a modern version of the Bone Fone!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Fox:

Well, I was hoping that being HIGHLY VULNERABLE and already on Social Security Disability I could be granted some kind of protected class with regards to eviction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Uncle Michael:

I find that I can benefit by the mere presence of lower frequencies from a subwoofer without a lot of volume from it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Fox:

I really do love my apartment, so I don't want to fuck shit up too bad with my landlord.
  10:25pm jeff-m:

a dark mood has settled in the last few years. I'm too lazy and kinda hate music now. Daniel is my friend though and his tastes are mucho simpatic to mine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm coelacanth∅:

my last apartment was 3rd floor my speaker cabinets each sat upon a big fat pillow, upon 2 very sturdy (made by me) wooden record cases. sounded great to me and only twice i got or almost got noise complaints.
i'm on the 1st floor now and just have some cloth under them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Fox:

Michael - Yeah, I've noticed that. A lot goes a long way. I don't think I've ever cranked the bass all the way, or even higher than half. Except maybe when I'm sleeping, and I put on one of those droning scifi sounds for twleve hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm coelacanth∅:

even bunched-up old clothing would absorb a lot of the bass though.
  10:27pm jeff-m:

honeslty i'm pretty impressed with the single blue tooth speakers i see around. Not all music has to be an audiophile exp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Fox:

jeff - I understand that, entirely. But it's good to me reminded as to why you loved things in teh first place.

That happened to me with comics. I'm sure you've read my dramatic reasons for that.

I'm trying to reclaim my love for comics now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Uncle Michael:

I'm checking out of the comments now. I'm going to listen to Daniel's droning scifi sounds in the dark. G'night...thanks Daniel and Scott!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Chop Scott:

@Fox: put thick rubber squares under the feet of the subwoofer and move a few inches away from any corner. That will reduce vibration to the floor.

@melinda - Yes, between the music and Daniel's voice, I know the week is done and and the weekend is imminent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Scott Williams:

Yeah, not fully fixed. re Kenzo, we was attacked! He shut down the thing that was attacked and is investigating. Perhaps song-entry was that thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm coelacanth∅:

it's okay Daniel. remember the good old days? we'd listen and wait for the back-announce and count back and sometimes call the station and shoot the shit with the show host!

Still hear. Sounds fantastic thru and thru.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Fox:

How do you stop spending too much time on social media when you can't interact with people in meat space?

I am trying to learn how to not feel loneliness, and I do not feel it as a oppressive sadness like I did in my early 20's, but I am a very talkative and social person by nature. I have adapted to the inevitability of my circumstance out of psychological necessity. Being chronically ill, plagued with migraine, and living below the poverty line, I am bound to spend a lot of time at home. I have to learn to live with that reality, and I have.

But my use of social media is compulsive and unfettered. If I were well enough to throw myself into a project to obsess over, I would do so. But the brain fog and inability to concentrate is significant.

I feel this would be easier to weather if I were surrounded by nature, as living around teeming life feels like refreshing solitude, not loneliness. I think (sub)urban life brings with it a level of loneliness that is it's own thing.

And so.... I am compelled to engage with social media.

Ooof. the trippiness is kicking in at the same time as the migraine. I'm gonna go hang upsidedown on my inversion table with an icepack hat and let the bass vibrate my cares away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm coelacanth∅:

seems okay Sir Kenzo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm chresti:

Oopsie Daisy! That was a classic ending! To summarize, on my end I called back ze tracks and wished you all a grand start of August and all that came through were the dulcet tones of Scott Williams, which is even better! Lesson learned - technology and Blumin don't aways mix. Thanks, Scott fer the save and Kenzo fer fixing the playlist! Thanks to Chop Scott, Cooh John, Hubig, slugluv, Fox, chresti, spodiodi, jeff-m, Fisherman, secret listener, Ken, p-90, coela, thesecoronalives and the rest of you Freeform loverzzz lurkin, archivin and oscillatin!
