i wanna be first in at The Out! Hey hey JG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am Jeff Golick:

@Stork! Hey there. What is up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am doctorjazz:

Hey D.O. folks! Physical Therapy this morning (lower back pain, due to arthritis, due to aging). Will be listening in the car driving there, and rejoin when they finish torturing me. Later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Jeff Golick:

Oh damn, @doctorjazz! Thanks for checking in and hope all goes well today -- need my radio daddy in fine fettle.
Avatar 9:01am Storkaleh:

Our sympathies, Doc! Hope they torture you constructively.
Avatar 9:02am Listener Gregory:

Is it hot in here or what? Congliptiousness is dripping from the chandelier
Good luck, @doctorj!
Avatar 9:03am DJpeterDE:

Good morning all! Sorry you're not running at full capacity, Doc. But I will say that I for one appreciate PT much much. Would rather be pushed around on a table then cut into.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am listener james from westwood:

Yikes, @doctorjazz! Hoping all goes safely and the PT helps!

And how do, all!
Avatar 9:03am hyde:

Avatar 9:05am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

To quote the 1st word on the 1st Who album
.... OUT !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am WR:

Hi all, getting suited up for grocery shopping, will be listening.
Avatar 9:06am StringOFperils:

Good morning ! It's morning here, so I'm going with that.
Avatar 9:07am TDK60:

Good morning Jeff and outsiders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am doctorjazz:

Thanks. All, no traffic now, can leave a bit later that I thought (according to Waze), out in a few, but got my headphones on in my living room for now. (Always realized I was lucky not to have the back issues many folks have. The parts DO get old, wear and tear, all that...
This is very pretty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Jeff Golick:

Shout out to @Listener Gregory, @DJpeterDE, @listener james from westood, @hyde, @Revolution Rabbit Nov63, @WR, @StringOFperils, @TDK60!
Avatar 9:09am DJpeterDE:

Is that Vandermark on soprano we think? (Not McPhee?) Whoever it is has a touch of Steve Lacy going on, who I don't htink of as an influence on either of them.
Avatar 9:10am DJpeterDE:

@string go with the flow, you can't stop the morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am doctorjazz:

Such an interesting sounding trio, not a common combination.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Jeff Golick:

I *think* it's McPhee on soprano, but I'm not 100% sure.
Avatar 9:12am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...in over my head with the knowledgeable Jazzbos & the French press steeping. Ah me. So many blessings...
Avatar 9:12am DJpeterDE:

OTOH 1996 is maybe the earliest KV I've heard.
Avatar 9:14am DJpeterDE:

This is cool. Yagi is a new name for me. Of course a lot of what I know about jazz from Japan is thanks to the Jeffs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Jeff Golick:

If it makes you feel any better, @RevRab, I often feel the same way.
Avatar 9:16am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Reminds me I must remember to put Ornette prominently near the top of the pyramid when I list my Favorites...
Avatar 9:18am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Story that Einstein @ Princeton told his students - whatever your difficulties with Maths - I assure you mine are greater still...
  9:19am DJpeterDE:

@revrab somehow I don’t think the students were comforted
Avatar 9:20am StringOFperils:

It's all relative.
Avatar 9:23am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

With say what one knows about Jazz or Computers - it sure is relative... But when I say a blessing I mean it.
  9:24am DJpeterDE:

This is my jam! Hmm... chive jam...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Doug Schulkind:

SLUGishly arising to the lovely strains of D:O.
Avatar 9:25am duke:

Hello Jeff and d:o'ers
Avatar 9:26am StringOFperils:

The percussion on CHIVES is interesting; I like this ensemble's sound a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Jeff Golick:

Ayo, @Doug Schulkind! S'up, @duke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Jeff Golick:

CHIVES is led by Steven Lugerner. The cover of that record does not give a good sense of what's inside.
Avatar 9:30am Listener Gregory:

Discovery: Dennis González is not André Gonçalves.
I learn something every show.
Avatar 9:32am DJpeterDE:

Oh no... this label has lots of Sam Rivers live stuff... there goes my budget...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Jeff Golick:

Yup. NoBusiness has been doing a whole Sam Rivers archive project lately.
Avatar 9:34am Listener Gregory:

Never heard of this group, but it seems surprisingly wonderful. (González CT)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Jeff Golick:

(I think Scott M. played some Sam Rivers on his recent fill-in, from that series....)
Avatar 9:36am DJpeterDE:

Thanks for the tip, found it (The Long Rally)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Jeff Golick:

@LG: yeah, Gonzalez is always always worth checking out. He leads different groups, and habitually adds some geographic tag depending on who's in the band, where recorded, etc. DG is from Texas, but that was recorded at Joe Morris's CT studio.
Avatar 9:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Did Ornette & Miles ever jam
...or wuz that just *not* gonna happen (my guess)...
Avatar 9:41am hyde:

those Rivers NoBusiness records are a treasure trove
Avatar 9:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Such creative Bass - & Drums...
Avatar 9:45am DJpeterDE:

@revrab never happened... here's confirmation... www.plosin.com...
Avatar 9:45am DJpeterDE:

If only the Newport Rebels festival had been recorded: Dorham-Ornette-Mingus-Roach
Avatar 9:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wow DJpeterDE ! What an interesting function there ! ...More than I may be up for just now tapping on my tracFone - but I'm free to imagine the sounds - & vibes - of this...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Jeff Golick:

I fell down some discographical rabbit hole earlier, looking at sessions that were recorded but never released...forgetting who I was looking at, at the moment, but it involved a lost ESP session, for one thing.
Avatar 9:52am Listener Gregory:

Doug mentioned Harold Land on Friday's show, and here he is! I guess this is the promised Land.
(That was Doug's joke.)
Avatar 9:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...you do never know where a joke is gonna Land ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am doctorjazz:

So NOT what I expect to hear from Land, nice sounding, though! OK, great car company, off to my appointment, catch you on the other side.
Avatar 9:55am hyde:

in that As Serious As Your Life book there's a lot of talk of free jazz shows in NYC in the 70's getting recorded, and i just kept thinking i sure hope somebody still has those...
Avatar 9:58am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...safe under a mattress & not in a burning corporate warehouse, perhaps...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
What goes around, comes around. Jeff Golick emailed me about Harold Land week, planting the name in the front of my mind.

As Serious as Your Life is my Torah.
Avatar 10:00am Listener Gregory:

You know, it's 50 years since the 70s. What are the chances that any given tape will be discovered and released, given that it hasn't so far? Not to be a downer...
Avatar 10:00am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, this Land is your Land, but also my Land.
Avatar 10:00am Sem:

Good morning, Jeff, and time zone appropriate greetings to the D:O faithful and all hanging ten on the Drummer Stream.
Avatar 10:02am DJpeterDE:

The middle Chive Dad looks like Nixon
Avatar 10:03am StringOFperils:

The one on the right looks like Borat.
Avatar 10:03am hyde:

@Doug it's pretty great
Avatar 10:04am hyde:

@LG yep. and even if they are discovered, a fifty year old magnetic tape might be useless
Avatar 10:05am TDK60:

That's funny, DJpeterDE: That middle dad looks like Huey Newton to me. Hee.
Avatar 10:05am StringOFperils:

NO greater courage than that of John Lewis.
Avatar 10:06am Storkaleh:

Harriet Tubman: GREAT band!
Avatar 10:07am hyde:

but I think those Nobusiness Sam Rivers recordings come from tapes his estate had. so you never know.
Avatar 10:08am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Note to Republicans: Restore the Voting Rights Act or forfeit the right to speak John Lewis's name.
Swag For Life Member 10:09am zzz:

definitely check the lead off track from that hutcherson/land san francisco album, “goin’ down south”. one of my favorite songs ever. first heard it on a very formative (for me) blue note compilation called straight no chaser (originals of later sampled tracks)
Avatar 10:09am DJpeterDE:

Wadada Leo Smith sounding very declarative here! No half-valves, thank you very much.
Avatar 10:09am Listener Gregory:

@hyde, here's hoping more are found.
Avatar 10:09am DJpeterDE:

@TDK omg
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am fred:

Hello Jeff and listeners. I was again busy buying dance tickets online through a poorly designed interface
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Jeff Golick:

I'm into this push to rename the Selma bridge, then and now named after a segregationist, after John Lewis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Jeff Golick:

Hey there, @zzz! Thanks for the tip -- haven't really dug in beyond that one tune "Prints Tie" so far.
Avatar 10:11am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Absolutely - but it's the right to vote that Lewis got his skull fractured for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @fred! Loving your faith in the future.
Avatar 10:12am TDK60:

I was angered when the current administration balked on a Harriet T. bill. Then I thought, why should such a govt. get to coopt her history anyway?
Avatar 10:12am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

So the ticket dance not so well choreographed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am fred:

@Jeff: I read that John Lewis wasn't into that, he didn't want that kind of focus on him. But it still sounds like a good move to me
Avatar 10:15am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

As with the whole BLM movement currently. Change the Jemima label - but what we really need is for Police to stop asphyxiating people. Say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Jeff Golick:

That's interesting, @fred; I wasn't aware of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am fred:

Not so much faith in the future, but these venues promised to pay the companies if the show gets canceled (and they did this year)
  10:17am Mark R.:

The Bird/Diz 1945 Town Hall acetates were discovered I believe at a garage sale and released in 2005. The Monk/Coltrane 1957 Carnegie Hall set was "discovered" and released that same year. So hope springs eternal for "lost" gems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Jeff Golick:

Speaking of gems...it's @Mark R.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Jeff Golick:

Well put, @Rev. I've taken on a more holistic view: changing of symbols: good; changing of behavior: also good. Let's do both, and have them be mutually reinforcing.
Avatar 10:22am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Billy Bragg now is writing interesting things about youth & new media & accountability - the a-word being key now it appears...he suggests an age gap here...
  10:23am DJpeterDE:

I’d think that not wanting a bridge named after you when you’re alive and fighting is one thing; I don’t think that’s a reason NOT to name the bridge now.
  10:24am DJpeterDE:

Go episode of Radiolab last week on the background to the Missouri flag decision
Avatar 10:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Actually I think taking the KKK man's name off the bridge would benefit everyone. Sorry John! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am fred:

@DJpeterDE: Well put. It would have been hard for him to endorse putting his own name on a landmark. So unlike the current president
Avatar 10:28am Listener Gregory:

Until the recent demonstrations, I really did not know how many things are named after KKK leaders. I didn't *think* I was naive, but...
Avatar 10:30am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@LG : Zackly. That now.
Avatar 10:34am Linda Lee:

hello & good morning! let's get that food for the spiritl in, right now.
Avatar 10:35am Linda Lee:

spirit. food for the spirit. if we can absorb these nutrients freely we're in fine shape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Jeff Golick:

Good morning, @Linda Lee!
Avatar 10:36am Linda Lee:

so glad to hear you, Jeff!
Avatar 10:37am DJpeterDE:

@Fred very true! if you have actually done things, you don't need to put your name on them.

Greetings, Jeff and WFMU folx. Ready to go OUT!
Avatar 10:40am DJpeterDE:

Very relieved that Jeff only played ONE of the things I'm planning on spinning on my show on Tuesday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am WR:

Hell yes.
Avatar 10:41am Linda Lee:

hey Granny! happy Sunday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Captain Linda Lee, ahoy! It's a foggy one here in SF.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Oh, i'm pleased to hear more Judy Dibble
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Uncle Michael:

good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Jeff Golick:

What's up, @Granny Spicy Tuna! Great to see you.
And you, @Uncle Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Jeff Golick:

@WR! How are ya?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Doug Schulkind:

Stone cold Trader Horne lover here. Stone warm.
Avatar 10:50am Linda Lee:

@Granny ~
as a born & bred new yorker the SF fog fascinated me there on my visits. some things *don't* change on a dime, thankfully.
Avatar 10:51am Linda Lee:

Jeff, i haven't heard any of the tribute to Judy this week, so i appreciate this!
Avatar 10:52am Linda Lee:

(some things also don't depend on what we're led to believe about them; they just are. thank Gaia.)
Avatar 10:54am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Knew nothing but 'Morning Way' by Trader Horne on the Pye Psych comp. - not even her name. But that voice.
...Turns out she was in with Fairport & proto Crimson & all this !
& people say online she was accessible & kind & everything.
Avatar 10:55am hyde:

i like that Judy Dyble's schtick was knitting onstage
Avatar 10:56am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Very now that.
Avatar 10:56am hyde:

she apparently knitted onstage while Richard Thompson and Jimi Hendrix were jamming
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Jeff Golick:

Avatar 10:57am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jayus. You'd have to do something other than go incontinent I suppose...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Uncle Michael:

That's pretty schticky.
Avatar 10:58am DJpeterDE:

But when will they reissue Judy's socks, scarves, and jumpers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Jeff Golick:

Reminds me: one of the Deal sisters was making and selling beautiful scarves recently, online.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am fred:

@hyde: A friend once laid "sleeping" on stage next to speakers during a metal show, which was an embarrassing look to the shredding guitar player. I think having someone knitting there would be worse/better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

this set is lovely, thank you
Avatar 11:03am hyde:

i also never knew she was in the band that became King Crimson
Avatar 11:03am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 11:04am hyde:

i kinda want that Trader Horne record now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i was a back-up knitter for a band at the Folsom Street Faire (speaking of faires and knitting!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Best thing is that is the factual truth
Avatar 11:06am hyde:

@GST onstage knitting is more of a thing than i knew!
Avatar 11:06am Listener Gregory:

@Granny S.T., it is great that some people take precautions in case of a knitting shortfall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Doug Schulkind:

Pretty sure it's pronounced DIE-bull.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am chresti:

Hi Jeff and roof rippers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am chresti:

Morning Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Jeff Golick:

@Doug: well now I wish I could DIE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Jeff Golick:

Hi hi hi, @chresti!
Avatar 11:11am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, don't pronounce it that way in a pasture.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am chresti:

Pretty good, Granny, send us some fog, please...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Jeff Golick:

@doc: welcome back! How's your back?
Avatar 11:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...almost forgot about SY Live. Thx man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Jeff Golick:

This SY number would really get the kids going.
Avatar 11:23am hyde:

i think it was this tour where they'd encore with a bunch of Ramones songs. THAT really got the kids going
Avatar 11:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Fantastic Four from New Yoirk.
Both harder & smarter than your favorite band.
Avatar 11:25am Listener Gregory:

When something is the B side to "Entertain," it lowers your expectations greatly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am doctorjazz:

Basically I'm just very stiff and need to do a lot of stretching and maybe even yoga
  11:26am Dean:

When Marco Rubio kicks the bucket I'm going to post a photo of Paul Ryan in tribute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am fred:

I saw SY a few times, the show with contemporary music didn't get the kids going (unless you mean booing, I personally loved it). First time I saw them Sleater-Kinney were opening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am chresti:

I was just reading about whats happening in Portland and yikes..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Jeff Golick:

@Dean: twitter.com...

Also, hello.
  11:29am Dean:

Thanks for that. Not being anywhere within Twitter's area code, I don't see this stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am fred:

@doctorjazz: maybe Doug should start a yoga show, with live video
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Doug Schulkind:

We seem to be eschewing the yoga in my house this morning. Maybe I'll get peer-pressured into it during The Stork Club.
Avatar 11:31am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

What's happening is our Police are Stormtroopers & the POTUS is a total damagesack makes Nixon look responsible in an Election year & everybody's gonna double down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am doctorjazz:

Fred, he should call it stretch the drummer some.
  11:34am Dean:

No, doctorjazz, it should be called Give the Drummer Om.
Avatar 11:34am Listener Gregory:

@Jeff, I don't know Psychedelic Sally. Can you hum it along with Herriott?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

  11:36am JtotheK:

Never heard this psych sally - very nice! Hi JeffG, hi everyone.

Come to think of it, Chicago's was a Spencer Davis Group cover. The song first registered with me via Chicago's first album.

I'm glad I got to see Ornette once, and even more how he lingered after his set to meet people as ushers were telling him to get off stage and he just waved them off. He seemed so happy to meet young people (the show had a few high school classes in attendance, many of which dug it)
